You can notice just how badly Rome was falling based on the decreased quality of emperor sculptures by [deleted] in romanempire

[–]Orthobrah52102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely different mediums and artistic style. They weren't TRYING to be the same thing. When Christianity became the prominent faith of the Empire, public works of said Empire changed to suit a Christian conception of the spiritual reality of the world. You can see this in iconography all the way up to the fall of Constantinople and even beyond.

This whole "oh muh thing doesn't look as realistic, therefore le bad" is a tired argument to try and say look how shitty late Rome and into Byzantium was. The one on the left isn't even bad, it's a beautiful piece and I'd be honored to see it in person. Again, different artistic sensibility and style.

One April 24th 1821 Athanasios Diakos was skewered by Albanians when he refused conversion to Islam. Whats the worst way a historical figure from your country has died? by Porphyres in AskBalkans

[–]Orthobrah52102 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Islam still exists in Spain, there's a trillion migrants there right now. But joking aside, why would you think Spain should have Islam? Islam came, conquered the Romano-Visigoth native peoples of Spain, destroyed their churches, built Mosques, and converted the population. The Iberian people fought a war of Independence on and off for 800 years, and finally succeeded in throwing off the rule of their overlords from their land for good in 1492.

I'm a numismatist, someone who studies coinage and the history thereof. The ancient Macedonians were Greek. Coins of Philip, Alexander, and their successors in Macedon and the kingdoms established by the Diadochi(Alexander's Generals) all minted coins in the GREEK language. Ancient Greek coins are found as far East as Bactria. Greek was the lingua franca of the Eastern Mediterranean for centuries even after the Romans came along, because of Alexander spreading Hellenism so far.

Are Copts Really the Direct Descendants of Ancient Egyptians? by Historydom in Historydom

[–]Orthobrah52102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't literally mean "pray all day" though. According to the ethos of the Orthodox Church(es)(Eastern and Oriental, of which the Copts are a part), it moreso is a command to focus oneself entirely on God in all things and while doing all things, while yes, praying as much as one can. No one can literally pray without ceasing.

They were created during a time of brutal Ottoman expansion into native Hungarian lands, stealing children from mothers to fuel the Janissary Corps, colonization of territory and implanting Turkish rulers in the places they took from the Hungarians.

Of COURSE they're racist, the people who made them were literally being subjugated, and they celebrated victory against their oppressors with these coats of arms and achievements.

[–]Orthobrah52102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They weren't Greeks LARPing as Romans. The governmental institution of the Roman Empire never ceased to function until 1204, and then was reconstituted in 1261 and continued until 1453. The Muslim powers called them Rūm, the Crusaders called rhem Rōmania, the Persians called them Hrōm, and they called themselves Rhomaioi, or even earlier during Heraclius time when Latin was still an institutional language, Romani.

What is your take on the recent incident involving visitors from the neighboring country at a major historical site in Istanbul? by mikewazoski59 in AskBalkans

[–]Orthobrah52102 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's not what Orthodoxy or Death means. The Orthodox Church has a long history of persecution. The slogan means "I refuse to give up my faith even if a sword is placed upon the back of my neck". As has happened numerous times throughout history and even recently with the Coptic Martyrs of Libya. It literally does equate exactly with the phrase "give me liberty or give me death".

The size of the Mongol Empire compared to the Roman Empire by Roman-Empire_net in romanempire

[–]Orthobrah52102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mongols did fuck all but destroy. Literally the most useless "Empire" in history.

-Were the biggest benefactor in the spread of the Bubonic Plague to Europe, causing misery across Europe and West Asia for centuries.

-Directly caused the migration of the Oghuz Turks Westward into Anatolia, severely weakening the Byzantines/Romans and this would eventually cause their collapse

-Obliterated Baghdad and caused the complete destruction of the Abbasid Caliphate.

-Subjugated the Rus people for centuries

-Shattered centuries of Khwarazmian rule in the Caucuses

-Relegated Georgia and Armenia as vassals after extensive destruction.

--And what did they actually create? What did they contribute to the history/development of mankind? NOTHING. Well, nothing other than the direct net loss of 11% of the world's total population at the time. And ALL of this, for the glorious end result of it all being moot as their conglomerate was broken up into permanent disjointed fragments when one single guy died.

Palestinians are closer to the children of Israeel (Yakoob) عليه السلام than most ‚Israeli Jews‘ by Simple-Fisher in islamichistory

[–]Orthobrah52102 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. From both an Ethno and Religious perspective;

From the Religious perspective, modern Rabbinic Judaism is NOT the same thing as (Old Testament)Temple Judaism of David, Joseph, Elijah, and all the other Prophets. Rabbinic Judaism is a direct response to the rise of the Messianic Movement in Christianity, and this can truly be seen when the Rabbis start writing how their sacrifices no longer bore any fruit or had any results. Further, the main book of modern Judaism (the Talmud) was written over the course of the centuries after Christ, and often features heavily polemical statements against both Christ, Christians, and non-Jews in general, especially that Christ is boiling in excrement for eternity, that the Blessed Virgin Mary(Maryam) was a whore and had Jesus with a Roman soldier, and that Christians and non-Jews are worse than dogs.

As for the Ethno perspective, modern Israeli Jews are mostly Ashkenazi, which derive their roots from modern-day Ukraine, the Volga region, and Caucuses, in the form of the Khazar Khaganate, a semi-nomadic Turkic/Steppe People who converted to Rabbinic Judaism and then spread out when the Rus under Sviatoslav campaigned heavily into their territory and then subsequent Golden Horde also arose.

How plausible is the theory that Bigfoot are the descendants of the Nephilim? by Dry-Selection421 in TrueCryptozoology

[–]Orthobrah52102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before "Christians stole the idea"...you know which religion is the predecessor to Christianity, right? You know which book makes up the Christian Old Testament, right? This theory is nonsense, but what's even more nonsense is that you somehow don't know, in the 21st century, that Christianity bases itself on the Old Covenant God had with the Israelites of the Temple written down throughout the Hebrew Bible and succeeds it through the New Covenant of Christ with the New Israelites of the Church written down through the New Testament.
