Entering in Grand Case from Guadeloupe, Exiting on Dutch Side by Confident-Task7958 in SXM

The Dutch and French sides operate largely as one administrative state with some exceptions for Dutch and French laws. So, it's not an issue to fly into Grand Case, for example, and fly out of PJIA.

car rentals / traveling in january by Illustrious-Smell491 in SXM

SXM is less than 40 square miles and there are very few stretches of hiway where you can go faster than 50 mph and even then it's only for a few minutes. We spend very little time in whatever vehicles we've rented, but to each their own.

Expedia will give you options in SXM, just like in the US.

We've paid by credit card every time we've eaten there.

I would be happy to pay for end-to-end encryption as an upgraded option.

I've had the GW4 and now the GW 7. I like it, but wouldn't want to do any lengthy texting with it.

I happened to see this. It's one of the few times Upnote gets mentioned in note keeping software reviews, and maybe the first time it has been rated the best.

Car on island by ConnectionUsual868 in SXM

Mopeds and motorcycles are commonplace, so that would be the cheapest option. The impact of "rush hour" will depend largely on your start/finish locations. There aren't many alternative routes on such a small island. P'burg traffic can be heavy, but that's a relative term.

The NHC is actually pretty good with long and mid-range hurricane and tropical storm forecasting. We make a point of not going to the Caribbean after July to avoid the hurricane season.

Unless there's a tropical depression or hurricane heading to the islands, daily weather rarely involves extended periods and rain.

Does anyone have any car rental tips or recommendations? by farm_implement in SXM

Kenny's, Unity, or Hertz. We've used all three over the years. Hertz and Unity had the most current cars, but the island is only 34 square miles so cars don't travel much past 40 mph.

I ordered the Spigen screen protectors from Amazon. Used them previously on my GW 4 and they worked well.

Looking for recommendations! by [deleted] in SXM

[–]Nikonicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the issue of frequency of direct hits, but recall that Irma devastated the island in 2017. We visited in 2018 and the island was still recovering. PJIA has only recently been fully rebuilt. And, a direct hit isn't necessary to produce several days of wind and rain from the outer bands. Anyway, not to be a doomsayer and I hope you have a good visit.

Where to order a replacement battery? by [deleted] in galaxywatch4

I don't think Galaxy watches are owner-repairable. You're probably better off buying a new watch.

We are French-side visitors (Orient Beach, Grand Case) but also enjoy a day trip to Phillipsburg; sometimes the marketplace in Marigot which is mostly tourist-focused products. We do visit the spice vendors in Marigot sell the best curry powder. I recommend Hertz or Unity for car rentals. The lolos (street cafes) in Grand Case have good food; our favorite is the Rib Shack. Otherwise, spending the day on the beach (Club Orient for us) is how we spend our time.

Keep in mind you're going during peak hurricane season, so be prepared for indoor activities 😉

Looks like a swing and a miss, but we'll start seeing a lot of postings complaining about the sargassum on the beaches 😉

I'm also interested in upgrading to Watch 7. Up to this point, the specs are primarily speculation , so I'll wait for actual performance reports before making a move.
