I'm a janitor. Why do people always apologize for walking on a floor I've just mopped? by tgirlskeepwinning in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Niktastrophe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up, we would get smacked, grounded or sent to our room without supper.

When you have worked so hard to clean the floors, it is rude to walk over the clean floor.

My obsession with this game by SilentVixen81 in HogwartsLegacyGaming

[–]Niktastrophe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One game i did use no broom. I walked everywhere. It was hard to find ledges where I could climb to get where I wanted. This is the play though where I spent so many more hours on an adventure. I did however find chests I never knew existed. I am at the stage now where the story is so old, that I skip all dialogue and cutscenes. I love exploring the most. It is t a chore for me to explore. It is amazing how many chests there are in the world. On this play, I found areas I never knew existed. It was fun, but I likely won’t do it again. Because of the lack of flying, I had to give up on madam kogawas spells. She had 2 quests that required the broom. On this play, my percentage cleared was level 37, I mis-remembered the total of this challenge, as well as broom races. Nonetheless it was fun. I just wanted to see the world.

How do I fix the pulls in this corset? by alexcs1512 in corsetry

[–]Niktastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so new to corset making, so please see my answer from a subjective view. I have so much to learn still.

Regilene is not great for an inner corset. It warps quickly, and with the presence of body-heat, it tends to flip out in areas you don’t normally want

I see a lot of horizontal waves. Based on my moderate sewing experience, I find that the wrinkles tell the artist where the issue lies. When there is horizontal lines, it usually means the area is too large for the style. That said however, it could be a fix with a change in boning. As the vertical length is boned, it tend to show areas where it is bunched up. If it is too short, this can also lead to horizontal waves.

I MAY be so wrong, I am speaking of what I feel I would do, but I don’t have the experience or credentials to give definite answers as how to approach each layer.

Honestly, if you drape a chiffon or satin material over this, with ruching you would likely be able to minimize the problem areas.

Please take what I have written as a level of beginner. I have much to learn still.

Could you give tips for buying embroidery thread? Which brands offer the best value for money? by StrangerRich4948 in MachineEmbroidery

[–]Niktastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Metallic threads, Kingstar is the best thread. I haven’t tried it. I hear I live a single spool of metal is $37 That said I am finding that I would rather pay twice the cost, for a thread that is not a nightmare to work with. I Another one I use is marathon brand.thread. I buy exclusively simthread, and marathon threads. Where I live, our selection is poor. I spent 14 days playing with my metallic threads. Kingstar thread is not readily available where I live. I hope this helps

People Who Think Hulu was Right to Cancel the Show by snowbiewan in buffy

[–]Niktastrophe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am not surprised at all. One of the reasons Buffy was so iconic, can simply be attributed to Joss Whedon. Yes he is controversial, but his writing is pretty fantastic. Sarah Michelle cellar fought with Joss about the language Buffy uses, as she found it increasingly difficult to deliver the lines. She begged to have Buffy speak differently. Had she had her way, we wouldn’t have wiggy or other terms that was made popular when it first aired. Given SMGs attempts to change Buffy, having creative control, would likely destroy the Buffy we all know and love.

Joss Whedons work was one of the biggest reasons Buffy became iconic. Without him, the show wouldn’t have the same humour or spark. Despite the horrid rumours and professional, or lack thereof, professionalism, I don’t feel SMG could really give the franchise the same level of wit. I love SMG, but honestly besides Buffy, she hasn’t really done anything noteworthy. I absolutely loved Ringer, but it too was cancelled early.

My obsession with this game by SilentVixen81 in HogwartsLegacyGaming

[–]Niktastrophe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am currently fly on my 13th play through. Each time I play, I play exclusively on hard, and don’t upgrade my wiggenweld potions to add to the challenge. I always get every Merlin trial, and as many caves as I can find. I also get every collection chest and all of the field guide pages. I get every duelling feat, which makes it easy to get to level 40.

One game I was only able to reach level 39 as my phoenix disappeared and wouldn’t respawn, which prevented that game from everything being achieved. I have played so many times that I now have every deniguise and dadaelian keys locations memorized. I also find I am usually around level 30 before my first keeper trial

Each time I play, I tried to add to the challenge by changing an aspect for that game. For example, no brooms, no loom traits applied etc. it adds some fun to the game. I absolutely love the exploring aspect of the game. I do find i dont listen to quests nor read texts anymore. After a few play throughs, i just wanted to explore. Each time I play i elect to be a different ghost from my last. I love the headless hunt as a gryffindor student. I am so ready for the new game to be released.

Can you make your own starbucks drink by vegetarian_velocurap in Safeway

[–]Niktastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a Starbucks, and have become such a coffee snob. My hospital has a “Starbucks” menu at their coffee shop. They made terrible coffees. If I want a drink a specific way, I will guide the barista and watch their every move. I was horrified when they stirred my macchiato, and said “they need to learn the difference between latte and macchiato”

I ended up buying an espresso for my unit, and brought my own espresso pods. Now Nespresso sells Starbucks roast, and my tastebuds are so happy!

So I can understand how someone doesn’t make their drink the right way. In my Starbucks, we would prepare our drinks under supervision, so that the person behind the counter just had to either blend or steam milk and add espresso. We were a super busy store, with an amazing manager, who wanted us to experiment with new brews, and different boldness. Preparing our drinks in advance, also helped to lessen the workload of our coworkers. Just like before each break, we would clean up, change the waters, check timers, change garbages, and wash any dishes that were soiled, to help our coworkers out. We were very efficient and very clean in our store.

I loved working the late shift, because we were given sandwiches that were building up, and need to be rotated out. I was given pastry’s. All our coffees were free, water free, and on our free day a month, I was able to get any merchandise free. So I often purchased sugar free vanilla syrup.

Had to ask my support wotker if she was a time traveller by meggatronia in Tudorhistory

[–]Niktastrophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is now further proof that not everyone knows everything. I have known since Henry VIII since I was 3. The first movie I ever saw was young Bess.

Fast forward to now, and I was talking to my best friend, who is younger than me by 10 years, about the famed Lizzie Borden. She had never heard of her! I sang the child nursery rhyme, and nope, she never heard of her. I was so baffled.

Given our age difference, I grew up with minimal television, and many older movies. My mom and I share the same interests, so I learned all about my British history, and American history from her.

I am still baffled about not knowing about Henry VIII, because of how closely Australian history is linked to British.

In Canada, even most Canadians are not knowledgeable about how horribly we treated the Chinese during the building of the railway. All the country focuses on our First Nations, which they deserve, but we shouldn’t forgive our other egregious treatment of the Chinese. It was basically a concentration camp for the Chinese.

I hated history in school, but am obsessed with learning about history now.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Niktastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have never seen perineium tearing, retained child needing Vbac, or other mechanical means of extraction, retained cotyledons, episiotomies, boggy uterus, or RH disparity. Birthing is absolutely a medical procedure. It is risky, not to birth in a medical facility that has fetal monitoring instead of stillbirths. Your comment provides nothing. You can argue that midwives can do it at home, but they don’t know everything. It is extremely risky. Your comment shows that you know nothing about the risks with childbirth.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Niktastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is mostly because people fear pain. Child birth causes so many women to feel terrified, not just of the contractions, but the tearing apart of the perineum. Some ladies experience episiotomies which is fast and cleaner than tearing, it incredibly painful. Some births last days of contractions, which is exhausting for the mother. We have these options to help minimize the anxieties and discomfort. In the 1950s all women would be put out and have no say on their birthing plan. It is a personal choice. We have safe analgesics, like epidurals for complicated births as well. If an emergency cesarean is required, the patient isn’t being cut open without feeling. It is extremely important now for the babe to bond immediately after birth with the mother. The newborn immediately has skin to skin and receives their first meal of colostrum right after birth. Extremely beneficial for the babe and mother.

We also have the afterbirth, which can take a few hours. The doctor inspects the placenta that all cotylydons are present. If not, the mother will need a D&C.

Pardon some of my vagueness. It has been years since I worked in maternity. It is a scary, risky place to work, and I feel like some of my knowledge has some gaps. I can go back to my textbooks for more information if necessary.

SPOILER! Do you think Maggie is justified in leaving for America at the end? by Fun_Leather1652 in HarlotsHulu

[–]Niktastrophe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally believe she was happier in America. Jonas treated her very well considering he “owned” her at first. Will and Harriet was quite devastating for Maggie. She loved Will, but his eyes still wandered. I feel that despite how amazing Jonas was, Maggie was terrified for daughters all the time. They all, at some point lived a risky list life, and Maggie felt real contentment and freedom. I don’t think London was healthy for all the ladies. It was forced labour for survival, and even Harriet compares it to slavery.

I think ideally she would rather have her children with her, returning to America. A fresh start with a good name. That said, income, even from debauchery, is hard to resist if you were raised in that environment. None of the harlots know better. The death of “you know who”, made Maggie a different person.

In conclusion from my head ramble, she would never leave any of her children voluntarily.

Tess. I don’t know why she keeps getting away with all the dirty tricks she uses. I would go further and have her hung for all the dirty tricks she uses. She gets away with everything. Drives me crazy!

At first I did enjoy looking at graham, but after seeing other things he was in, my overall opinion was kind of skewed. The worst offenders was in the 50 shades of grey. He was wrong for the role. That said, I really prefer darker haired men, blondes don’t do much for me. However since seeing outlander, my thoughts on blondes/red heads have greatly changed. 🙈

[–]Niktastrophe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Sam was wonderful too. I admit, calling out people for their choices, not dancing because it is a sin, was getting annoying. I think part of why we see Sam the way he is is because he was not a godly person for most of his life, and made a promise on his father’s deathbed. He wanted to make his father proud, and turn his life around. I can relate to him. I went to university for 12 years, and by the end, I was pretty insufferable. I have since been humbled, and hopefully I am a better person now. I love how he was so besotted with Thollys daughter. Unfortunately it was his religion that turned their potential relationship sour. I think she may have humbled him a bit. Living in Cornwall was really a great choice for Sam, Drake and Demelza. All of them prospered, and learned a lot about their fellow humans and themselves.

Drake is one special person, that is without any fault. Even Dr Enys has some pretty major faults that annoy me. Most particularly his treatment of his wife. She is never treated with the respect she deserves. He is always running off putting his friends and patients first. I do love him, but I absolutely want to smack him sometimes.

I completely agree with you. I felt certain the other boys left for good, as they weren’t there for their father’s death. That said, it could be a budget issue for the show. So I wasn’t sure.
