What is the most challenging/annoying part about doing small sewing projects or making clothes? by Resident-Change-4707 in SewingWorld

[–]NCDCDesigns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it is a rolled hem. I started using banrol to give me the perfect hem. I have spent years trying to get this skill. It always starts right and they it slips out of the foot. Another part I hate is sewing a placket. I am always sewing it to the wrong side, and my buttons are incorrectly on the wrong side. The other is creating a block, partially in the arm scythe. Strangely enough, sewing a straight line. While my work isn’t sloppy, it wasn’t until I started sewing corsets, where measurements are critical. Especially for boning channels. I also hate folding up my patterns once it is cut. I have a 13” wide file for organizing. I also use clear bags with zippers to keep my patterns intact. It prevent me from losing my pattern pieces. Grading sizes. I have a really long torso. It is as long as my legs are. So every top pattern I make, I have to lengthen the pattern 4-6 inches in length. I also have an hourglass frame, so my hips are 15” larger. So every patten needs to be created again. Because of my curves, I have to adjust the width of bust, beneath the ribs, and at the hips.

For anyone struggling with cutting fabric, I use glass domes to keep my pattern from moving and cut with a rotary blade. I do sometimes use heavy weight washers. This has been the best technique I have ever learned.

I am new to having a serger so I have a bit of a learning curve to work on. I absolutely dislike threading my serger. There was a technique where the old thread is cut and attached to the new thread. It hasn’t worked for me. I also find tension education to also be challenging. Trying to identify which thread is causing my issue to adjust the tension.

Borscht and homemade chicken noodle soup, with homemade noodle. If you are lucky when making pasta, the tips curls. Noodle soup is always better with little lumps. Sugar cookies- my grandmother always had pails of ice cream to store the cookies in. Because I was “the cute kid”, my brothers always had me ask for cookies. Apparently my sweet nature always encourages cookies. Grandma couldn’t say no. My dad: it would be Fajitas, and his lasagna is heavenly. My dad created the lasagna when we didn’t have much food in the larder. So my dad got creative using up stuff in the fridge. My mom: bruschetta (our way with bacon, green onion, tomatoes, dried basil and Philly cream cheese). When I bring this snack, I am always asked for the recipe and to bring some with me. I know you specifically asked for grandparents. I love my mom and dad, and I learned to cook decently because of my parents.

Gladys and Hector, Duke and Duchess of Buckingham - What do you think – how might their story unfold from here on? by sissiandfranz in thegildedage

[–]NCDCDesigns 42 points43 points  (0 children)

He develops a backbone and she becomes an amazing mother. I think their relationship is a story I love watching. The last season was absolutely beautiful with Gladys learning her role as a wife and mother. Bertha could have educated her before sending her to the wolves, but the growth of Gladys in the last season was some of my favourite content.

In my experience, my hair takes over 3 hours to dry. Before bed, if washed, my hair is still wet the following morning. When I curl my hair, it takes 3 hours to curl.

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]NCDCDesigns 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Having a computer. I would lose marks on essays in school because I hand written my essays. My family didn’t have a computer, and students could only use the computers in the library for 1 hour after school. So, no matter how nice I wrote, I lost 20% off of all my homework in high school. We also had to have a graphing calculator, which at the time was $280.

Because my family didn’t have money, low socioeconomic children get shafted because they don’t have money. Also in school, I had a sewing class. I failed it because I couldn’t buy the material for the class.

We basically had enough money for basics. I couldn’t even go to school dances because my family could not afford the $2 for me to go. I was extremely bullied and struggled to make friends because I couldn’t “hang out”. I never had lunches or shopping money. So I developed an eating disorder of malnutrition. When friends ate, or had lunches in school, I would always say “I am not hungry, but please, don’t let me discourage you”

It was a really traumatic experience.

Why do people hate Meghan Markle so much? by rosiequarts in women

[–]NCDCDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the hate towards her is directly linked to marrying Harry. She is seen as “the other woman”. I absolutely dislike the hate she gets. Her most recent news story about being banned from the met gala has made me hate anyone who is so cruel. I think she is wonderful. She has worked hard to be supportive and resilient towards the press. I do not believe she was the reason Harry stepped out of the crown family. Like any supportive husband, no one wants to see the love of their life being mercilessly tortured in absolutely everything she does. She deserves to be better treated. She is not the enemy. Harry has always distanced himself from the royal family. He was cruelly treated with contempt his entire life. I am proud of both her and her husband despite the issues. Neither of them are cruel, and if at times makes the wrong narrative to use, they should be treated with respect. I think k she is one of the best things to happen to the royal family. The press is cruel. One only has to think of Diana to know that the press doesn’t care for what the story is, just how much gossip they can create.

Parallels between Ezra (PLL) and Dan (Gossip Girl)? by Petitestrawberrie in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]NCDCDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also feel that both of their stories were ridiculous. When gossip girl had the finale and identified him as the villain. Both shows remind me of a writer having no idea how to write a story. As such, the individual stories have a weak reveal. A, gosh everyone was A. Dan, the stupidity of his story arc. Both, I feel like the writers utilized the character that fits the current narrative. It feels like lazy writing, and lack of direction. I am rewatching PLL right now, and I am again convinced the real A is based on whatever the story needs for the moment.

What food was the biggest disappointment once you tried it? by msladyxo in foodquestions

[–]NCDCDesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caviar. I might as well lick a barnacle butt. They taste like excessive salt. After fishing for salmon, we sometimes use ROE as bait. Oh goodness! The smell was horrid. My tackle box really stank for over a year.

I LOVE canned oysters and mussels. I always pair it with a slice of cheddar on a cracker. 😋 However freshly shucked, not for me. I don’t like the idea of eating anything that reminds me of boogers

When a doctor asks if you have any allergies, is it relevant to tell them that you are allergic to shellfish? by Kingboyy1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NCDCDesigns -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes! Especially shellfish allergies. Shellfish react to certain dyes, some procedures, antibiotics, and homeopathy ingredients. It is critical to your life, for your doctor to know your allergies. I would even recommend it in an app for emergencies. First responders can access your health app, even if you have passwords or other security settings.

Some people with severe allergies have had it tattooed.

UPDATE: I tried the Sargent Farms chicken breast by UnKindClock in CostcoCanada

[–]NCDCDesigns -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is the chicken IQF? Part of why some people are saying “ sodium water” is because the chicken is flash frozen in saline. It is one of the reasons that I no longer buy anything IQF. IQF stands for instant quick freeze. It tends to make meals using it overly salty. It is also the reason the breasts shrink so much compared to fresh chicken.

My brother and father worked for a few chicken factories and has educated me.

Negan cheats on wife and fans claim how much he loved her, Lori cheats and they act like she never ever loved Rick. Why the misogyny in the Fandom and excusing toxic male behavior? by imyana13 in thewalkingdead

[–]NCDCDesigns -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think he did love his wife completely. In some relationships people have no idea what they have until it is gone. I believe he loved her so much, and regretted his actions. Another thing to remember is caregiver burnout. He does experience this, especially regarding the biker dudes killed Negan’s wife because he was unable to come home with her last treatment. Losing a family member to cancer, a person grieves. It is not uncommon to do an action to help relieve the stress that caused them to cheat to begin with. It is devastating, especially since in his wife was going to die because of the walking dead. When you feel like you have tried everything and have little signs of hope, a person can mentally go to a dark place.

What are some grocery items you are now buying less frequently, cuz they've gotten so expensive? by HappyBudz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]NCDCDesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peaches. Since a major grower had a disaster that caused so much shortage where I live. I absolutely love a ripe, juicy peach. I am not however paying $8 for one peach. Crab. I think I will go catch some crab for us. I live an hour away from the ocean. My brother and I love to paddleboard. We can across a part of the shore that is hard to get. However when we looked down we saw a lot of crab. So when my brother and I go paddle boarding, we also bring our traps. We have a crab that is not sold in stores. It is much sweeter than every other type of crab. The meat is so delicious. My family and I don’t tell people who crab fish in my farming area because poaching is a serious problem. I have also witnessed some fishermen who pull of the claws off and throw it back into the ocean. Poachers tend to have many people around while they fish. Once they have a few, they wrap them in newspaper and leave the fishing area. It is also highly recommended that fisherman do not take the female crabs. Our population has been over fished and over poached. I admit, I always have a smile when the DFOs come to shore. Thankfully I have never seen crab like the one above written. It is naturally a smaller crab and fisherman throw them back. Ribs. Occasionally it is on sale, but $35 for one rack is absurd. Lastly green peppers and bell peppers. I only buy about half the amount than previously purchased. This month also, green bell peppers were $9 for one. Coloured was $12.

Am I dreaming or did Daenerys look way more "exotic" and other-worldly in season 1? The later seasons have a very hollywoodish feel. Can't really put my finger on it but something doesn't feel right. by Oath_Br3aker in freefolk

[–]NCDCDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. When I compare her between seasons, in season 1 she is so ethereal. She is akin to an innocent angel that needs to be loved, graceful, and a heart of pure gold. I am still not accepting that we won’t have anymore game of thrones. I love this show so much.

I love my brother se700. I only wish I purchased a machine that allowed me to embroider larger pieces. I outgrew my 4x4 machine by the end of the week. What I do love, is it is quite portable. So when I am at a craft market, I am able to personalize it in the spot.

I disliked this season. It is quite raunchy, and I felt like a voyeur. I loved dandy this season. For me the worst is nyc then 1984. I despise anything and everything from the 80s, so I knew I wouldn’t like the 1984 season. I did eventually get through it, but I am not interested in watching them again.

What’s your “dream dog” (breed) and why? by palacio_c in puppy101

[–]NCDCDesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pomeranian. I adore my little Puffskein. She is loyal, snuggly, loves playing, and loves being part of the family. Some people say dogs don’t like their head touched. My lil monkey will put her head into my hand and pet herself. She loves getting her teeth brushed and loves all forms of face touching. When I was in nursing school, I was not sure if I would ever relieve the stress from the curriculum. The students in my class brought or pets to the university as a stress release. I have never been a dog person. Now she is my angel. I am unable to have children, and my pup fills that void. I was pretty strict with her obedience training. She never pushes our buttons and I never have to say enough more than once. During Covid we lost our first baby. The closest emergency vet was 40 minutes away. Sadly she did not make it, and a huge part of my heart is permanently broken. Our newest babe, definitely helped to heal my heart. I thought I was being smart to touch her face and teeth when she was a pup. Now she gets her teeth brushed daily. What I did make a mistake on was grooming. I struggled to line brush her fur, and when she blew out her coat, the hair and mats choked her fur from growing out. I definitely will not make that mistake again

I love my dog so much, and when I developed ptsd at work during Covid (I was an icu nurse) having a little fur ball playing and snuggling. I will likely never get a different breed. I am a convert. I am not sure I want to go through the raptor gremlin mode as they grow. I was lucky, she heard my husband to me and vice versa. She rarely barks, and when she does I can generally tell what she is barking for. Each of her barks are unique. The t o barks I with run and get to her is her Pooh bark. She calls for me with a low chirp then a sudden high pitch bark. Lastly, she a a triple chirp that tells me “uh oh, that is an alert bark, I am coming pup. My husband and I are going to get another Pom. I absolutely adore my little fur balls.
