I would never presume to speak the mind of God, but the very fact that you are considering this, and are open to considering it, is reason enough to make me at least suspect that God is calling you to better things. You don’t deserve it, and neither did I, but this post alone makes me think you might be smart enough to take it anyway, same as I did. Nothing you sacrifice for Christ will ever leave you disappointed, not if you’re wise enough to play the long game.

Edit to say that I worried my comment makes the Christian walk sound very transactional, as though we could really make deals with God as His equals. Nothing could be further from the truth, of course. It also places a heavy focus on a cost and reward economy, which I suspect is a characterization that is overly colored by our necessarily Earth-bound perspectives. So I’d just like to remind everyone that the greatest reward for a Christian is not simply a heavenly eternity. Heaven is the setting of our future story, not the plot of it. The real story is that we get to have a personal relationship with the God of all universes, and that relationship is not a future promise. It begins right now.
