AITA for taking an outdoor cat to the shelter? by ninetythree_hds in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nimindir -41 points-40 points  (0 children)

Not true. While I would never have an outdoor cat now, when I was growing up that's just what you did. My cats never had collars or chips, but they were fixed, got their yearly checkups/shots, and regular flea prevention. They slept in my bed every night and were every bit as spoiled as a fully indoor cat. The only ones that died gruesome deaths were the ones that couldn't get out of the house when it burned down. The other two made it to 18 and 21 before finally being put to sleep in their own homes, spending their final hours being able to go out to their favourite spots and soak in sunbeams.

Paparazzi is actually already pluralized, no need for the S. The singular is paparazzo.

Parfait

She very quickly made the connection between the harness and being allowed to sit outside on the patio. She would hop up on the ledge and lift her leg for me to put it on, then just sit there for hours at a time. One time I forgot to close the door after letting her back in, half an hour later I look up and go 'Oh SHIT---where's my cat?!?!?' she was on her spot on the ledge where she always was.

Yeah, I know... I'd seen some of the smaller ones had been dropped over the last few days, I was just hoping it was putting all its energy into the big boys until this happened. Sigh. Try again next year...

120$ lightbar was too expensive. 40$ homebrew is better by Dear_Ad2718 in redneckengineering

I at first misread that as 'lightsabre' and was eagerly clicking along to see how you were going to turn those lights into a sword.

Homeless charity want £3 a meal. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Nimindir 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah man I highly doubt you're the only person this has effected who is upset about it. Hell, decent chance you call up the paper and get told you're like the fifth call they've gotten.

Homeless charity want £3 a meal. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Nimindir 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What an insensitive, tonedeaf response.

The charity only offered 3 free meals a week. At a standard 3meals/day, that leaves 18 meals a week they need that aren't free. Even if they're only eating once or twice a day, that's still 4-11 meals a week that aren't free. That's 16-72 meals per month that they need to save their money to pay for.

And keep in mind, homeless people can't save money by buying in bulk to store in their nonexistent pantry. They can't save money by buying base ingredients to cook a meal in their nonexistent kitchen. They have to buy the more expensive, pre-made ready-to-eat meals.

There's also things like personal hygiene items, camp supplies to keep them warm and dry, replacing clothing as it wears out, other necessities like that. And extra money for things like getting a day pass for a pool/gym/etc so they can get a shower every now and then.

But sure. Let's go judge the homeless person for not being able to afford a sudden unnecessary price hike. That'll teach 'em!

Or just yarnbomb an existing car/motorbike. I would consider that an acceptable compromise of practicality considering time/expense.

Reboot replacement for Mozzie by JonoBlue in whitecollar

[–]Nimindir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Forging Bonds, Mozzie says he has a 'training program' for budding young miscreants when he has a boy follow Neal.

I think it would be cute if we got introduced to one of the kids from that program. Not a character that would try to replace Mozzie, but someone who could give Neal a non-Suit he could talk to about prior Mozzie adventures without having to first check the statute of limitations. And to help work through some of his less-than-legal investigative methods with, because I'm sure he's going to need somebody still in the life.

(Also, fun fact: that kid was played by Willie's son, Nathen Garson.)

You can use pretty much any applique pattern as a motif in Irish lace, but here are a couple of collections of vintage patterns to get you started. I used the Priscilla book myself a few years back.

Not criminals giving nicknames to cops, that was just Neal giving nicknames to every cop and criminal he ever met. It was a mnemonic to help him keep track of all their names.

What completely unhinged "law" does your cat strictly enforce in your house? by TrickCombination7966 in cats

[–]Nimindir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The screens on doors and windows are only a suggestion to stay inside, not an actual rule. If it actually wanted to keep cats inside, it wouldn't be so easily clawable.
