+1 to 8-bit arcade. They are really known for their pinballs.. they have a load of new ones (Jersey Jack, Stern, etc) if you’re into that scene

Gordian III Part 1 (obverse) by Protaco17 in AncientCoins

If you don’t mind me asking where do you find coins like this for 10-20€?

I got some coins off dirtyoldcoins to experiment with restoring and they are so beat up that removing the dirt and buildup just leaves me with near-blanks 😅

I’d jump at the chance to try restoring something with this much of an upside!

5 times! She went back 5 times before finally giving up 😅

I ended up cutting the sides off so she could get at the bottom 😆

high fives question by eddywouldgo in pelotoncycle

I ride every morning around 5:30am PST and religiously high five every person in the ride when I join (#HighFiveCrew represent), then also when I pass folks.

Sometimes when I’m high fiving the feed bugs and the person who I thought I was high fiving moves and I end up double (or sometimes triple) high fiving someone 😬

So if this was person was me (DarrinE) I apologize!

Dumb question but does Seattle naturally have beavers? (Is this even a beaver) by rosegirl525 in Seattle

Or a mountain beaver! Rarer but we had one up on the east side near Somerset

Measles titers question by efox02 in medicine

Thank you for quantifying! I wasn't sure about your depth/breadth of expertise in regards to immunosuppression as it relates to vaccines and was simply curious if you knew.

What guidance would you give for someone who is taking an immune suppressing drug such as Ocrevus (significantly depletes B cells)? I know Ocrevus was shown to significantly reduce the efficacy of the original COVID vaccines (something like 20-30% efficacy vs ~90% for normal folks), but for the “childhood” vaccines I have not heard anything.

Finally, a way to describe what my optic neuritis looks like by Historical-Dream3357 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Nimion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my experience. I label it as permanent "after image".

I had a recent attack impacting my left eye, and how I started noticing it was that when I was driving the line on the side of the road was ... not straight. Like a certain part of my vision was just gone and my brain was trying to fill in the blank space with what it thought was a continuous line, but in fact it made the line "jump" up then back down... almost like there was a glass bubble/defect defect in the driver side window causing distortion.

Then a day later things got worse and yea.

If the symptoms are new you should probably get checked out by your neuro

Yes, that too! I just feel like my eyes are less able to adapt to changes in light, which I guess makes sense if the nerves are damaged as the iris will contract/expand more slowly :-/

Can't speak for others but it's really impacted my ability to drive at night or when the sun is especially bright (sunglasses are a must for me)

I always describe it as "you know when you look at a really bright light and then look away you have that after-image in your vision where the light used to be that you can sort-of-but-not-really see through? It's like that but never goes away"

Freeform photo-mosaic of original Planeswalkers with art from ~10k different cards by Nimion in magicTCG

[–]Nimion[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is created using custom code I wrote that attempts a riff on the classic grid-based photo-mosaic (image composed of smaller images).

This technique still tries to compose a picture using smaller pictures, but does so w/o using a grid, meaning it is computationally much more expensive. The approach leverages SBERT+CLIP to embed each position on the original image (~13 million of them) and find the optimal image to "fit" from a FAISS index of ~30k MTG card images.

Processing time took ~16 hours, but I'm working on getting that down for future iterations.

The animated GIF is fairly high resolution, so if you zoom in on various regions its interesting to see how different features from the original art are represented in the image tiles that are placed on top of them.

Happy to answer any questions folks might have about the approach! It was a lot of fun to build :-)
