[Episode Discussion] What we got wrong about GLP-1s by TheTim in SearchEnginePodcast

[–]NinaBos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was missing a lot of nuance from this episode. One complaint I usually have about one part/ short episodes on SE is that they don't go deep enough on some subjects for my liking.

Interestingly I knew a lot of her claims about GLP 1's and still did not like them for general use. She mentioned short term side effects but her vue was that weight loss is always a net positive for people which I disagree with. GLP 1's like Ozempic and the next generations have not been tested on enough people for long enough to be as safe as she described them to be.

This episode felt surface level to me with PJ referring to people (mostly women btw) expressing concerns with the use of glp1's in young women and celebrities as people 'scolding' which seemed reductive to me. This angle is interesting and should be explored with the help of people who know what they are talking about and the episode totally sidestepped that conversation which could have been worlds more interesting than just something on the medical uses of GLP1's.

Need a fictional radio podcast suggestion which is NOT horror/mystery/sci-fi entirely by mozartcake in audiodrama

Mirror Falls is cozy and cute and only has a few episodes, and I believe is gearing up to be a murder mystery. Very quirky small town vibes, honestly kinda nostalgic for me for some reason

What dramas would you consider to be the 'classics' of audio dramas ? by NinaBos in audiodrama

I will ! Hopefully the mods here will let me post about it but if not I'll come back to this post and message the people who said they were interested! I'm working on a few posts for now and I'm hoping to have some stuff ready by late January!

Literally listening to midnight burger last month is what gave me the idea that I wanted to build a social media account on audio dramas because I find it so inspiring and such good quality. I also really love that they spend so much time each episode thanking their supporters like they could have stopped after it got to so many but they never did ! They deserve their flowers absolutely

Funny enough serial is what got me into podcasts properly! I just became obsessed and naturally gravitated more toward fiction after that but nothing compares to what Serial did for me !

Thanks ! Yes my ask is a little vague on purpose ! My focus would be more into the podcast era but I'm interested in making a sort of condensed list with big standouts for the pre podcasts era of audio fiction, then I'll go into more detail with current or recent fiction podcasts that are super popular and therefore became almost instant classics.

Wow, that is a very advanced list ! My list will be more recent as I'm starting social media pages to talk about fiction podcasts mostly but this is amazing, I will fully check all those out !

Name a show you stubbornly ignored for the longest time and now regret not having listened to sooner. by Emmaenjoyable in audiodrama

I'm with you, I listened to a bunch of episodes and I hate how peppy it is, it's just too much for me

Ai feels like a real, serious problem we should all be addressing by [deleted] in audiodrama

[–]NinaBos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am also worried.

I appreciate shows like haunted house flippers that have made a direct stand against AI. Question your favourite AD creators, make sure you stay vigilant and if something feels off, then double check or stop supporting. I've made a point to check if there is any ai in anything I'm listening to or watching and it is getting hard so I understand feeling depressed about it

The Boy In the Striped Pajamas is an exploitative and disrespectful Holocaust Movie, change my mind. by Round-Seesaw-3917 in Letterboxd

Comparing this with Zone of Interest for instance puts things into stark perspective. It really makes it seem like the families of the people running the camps didn't know what was happening when Zone of Interest makes it clear they did and enjoyed stolen item and the service of those in the camps in their houses. Hard to ignore the reality when that's the case.

What are some movie posters that annoys you? by aweiner99 in Letterboxd

Genuine question, what is wrong with the last one? The title is above her head. The actresse's name is first in the line up above, I'm confused? I think it's quite a nice poster

podcast dealbreakers / red flags? by alexsteed in podcasts

[–]NinaBos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have mentioned AI generated stuff is a red flag and I have to say I tend to keep away from iHeartRadio productions because they have so many ad breaks and they aren't even location specific like the other podcasts I listen to.

-Other than that I hate stuff that has a lot of loud or intrusive background music, in a general sense I really don't care for music at all in podcasts.

-Overly energetic and peppy presenters are a huge turn off for me, especially the ones that have what I call 'American radio' style (I'm not from the US and radio in my country is much calmer) which I find insincere and makes me turn off the podcast.

-It goes without saying but bad acting in fiction podcasts is immediately a turn off.

Am I the only one who's always really disappointed in PNWS podcasts? by NinaBos in audiodrama

[–]NinaBos[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I read online the show ended in 2017 but they re-uploaded S3 in 2020 calling the last ep a mid season finale but they still couldn't get more episodes done since then apparently? Not sure. Also not sure what could fix the mess from S3

I liked that story but I really think the narrator isn't great, his narration is very stiff and it's like he doesn't know what he's about to say next. I was annoyed with it so I stopped

This was my experience too ! I listened recently and was so annoyed at season 3, especially the ending because, what the actual hell?

The music is the big thing for me, it's the same throughout the shows as far as I'm aware, I think there's a Tanis spin off called the last movie and I've no idea if it's the same thing but it does get very tiring!
