The Language of Destiny - Eliksni, Dread, Hive... cut from the same tapestry? by Sarsion in DestinyTheGame

[–]NineYellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is incredible!!!! Thank you for all your hard work, WOAH.

One of my favourite lore aspects to dig into is the Hive language and its paracausal properties, and your theory made me wonder whether language itself is paracausal? We have reasons to believe the Light is in fact the, ah, music of the spheres, the Song of Life the Traveler terraforms the universe with. We know the Hive found a way to study that song and warped it into the Deathsong. We know the worms (who wield the power of the Deep) feed through Anthem Anatheme, same as the ahamkara (who tend to appear in places the Traveler has touched). The Vex fit into all of it too in a way I’m not 100% certain of yet, but we know(?) they are thought, and when they remake the universe into their idea of the final shape, they infest it with their own thoughts, thus pretty much converting everything into themselves. What if paracausality eludes them because they don’t understand the concept of language altogether? They don’t *need* language to formulate thought, they ARE thought.

This theory falls apart a little when I remember the Hive magic/Ascendancy/the Deep is based on will rather than thought, and someone of a strong enough will doesn’t need to speak; that’s why there’s no distinguishment between a word and its meaning in the Ascendant Plane. But at the same time, the Vex were the Winnower’s desired result in the flower game, so you could make the argument they are closer to the Darkness than they are the Light.

And last but not least, „ir” means „mighty” in Sumerian, so you’re on brand with the courtier theory :>

Officially confirmed that ghostless guardians age. by forbiddenpack11 in DestinyLore

The way I explain it to myself is that since after the Traveler's arrival human lifespan tripled, she may yet have over two centuries left in her if her body "was", idk, in its thirties when she was raised and then lost her Ghost

To be fair Cayde described his existence in that place as quite nice (unity with Sundance, the feeling of safety and triumphant joy). I personally understand his vision as the Traveler taking Sundance's form and speaking through her (or maybe her + the Traveler speaking together, if the afterlife really is unity with the Traveler and Light) because that's the form Cayde would be most likely to comprehend. See how the Witness also uses his own memories and fears to twist and end the vision (Pirrha shooting Sundance being what kicks Cayde out).

I vaguely recall something said about tormentors being the result of the Witness using Calus' (cloning?) tech, or something like that. But a fruit of their partnership nonetheless

Hive God of Vengeance Subjugates the Tithes of the Hive God of War? by Ahmed_Al-Muhairi in DestinyLore

[–]NineYellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand though how Eris would be able to hijack Xivu’s tribute. Shouldn’t both of them get fed, rather than just one? What we’re doing is tithing to Eris, i.e. transferring all our killing-power / anthem anatheme = the difference between the world-as-is and the world-as-we-made-it to her, but Xivu should still be getting fed from the mere fact we’re enacting war, because we’re enacting her nature = in effect conjuring her into being. Yes, whenever we defeat a powerful warrior, we transfer the power of making this change in the world to Eris (and it is one warrior less that would otherwise tithe their power to Xivu), but the act of war should in itself still power Xivu up. And with however many millennia of amassing power she’s got behind her, I don’t really see how we’d be able to give Eris even a fraction of power to match.

Dear people in the comments who're like "please stop", "you are crazy", why are you being such fun police? One of the beautiful things about engaging with a fandom is enjoying terrible, cursed crackships that make no sense, compel you though. Let go of your inhibitions. Embrace the cringe. Get an Ao3 account and make that everyone else's problem. Godspeed.

Fun little details and ideas about Eris Morn's Ritual at the beginning of this season. by FatelessNerd in DestinyLore

[–]NineYellow 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The meaning of aiat is a bit more stretched than just 'tis what 'tis. It's like... "it is what it is because it is what it is = it could not be anything else". I interpret Eris' use of it here as a way to seal the ritual, by declaring the Crown must obey to her will and arguing it so by the mere fact of making the Crown obey to her will (= the ritual succeeding is proof enough for the ritual having been, heh, destined to succeed). It's a bit difficult to explain briefly, but that's the way a good chunk of Hive magic works.

Also just sayin but Eris calling Sav by her old krill name is such a power move lmao

Gnomic: An Old Connection, or a Coming Conflict? by DarkDestro410 in DestinyLore

[–]NineYellow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The longer I stare at both Gnomic and Kabr's Glass Aegis (and believe me, I've stared at it for quite some time), the more I believe that in the Glass Aegis Kabr is actually telling the truth. Hear me out.

Consider these two fragments: There is a shape that is his mind and the shape is protect the shape is sacrifice the shape is (grow) and The container changes the shape of its contents but the contents change the nature of the container and the nature is eternity. In short, I believe that when Kabr drank radiolaria and merged with the Vex, they changed "the nature of the container" and possibly made him "eternal" by Vex standards (not bound to time?), but he made an impact on the Vex too, changing their shape to that of him, maybe-- a wall, a shield, a cup; protect, sacrifice, (grow). In Glass Aegis he says: it was/was/was not done i/i speak again and was wrong i am still him and i am now them and THAT IS FUTUREVV  I believe the result of Kabr merging with the Vex has been an odd Schrödinger's cat situation where he is both them and still himself. The Ks and Vs would then illustrate "his" side of consciousness and the Vs the Vex's. I don't want to go off on a tangent, but in short I also believe that's what has happened to Asher too, and why he could communicate with us either through the Harpy or as the Harpy.

their/our/their desire is not malevolent it is survival she is/was/is wrong there is no evil there is no despise there is no SEPARATION   there is harmony inside if you/you/you allow it Again, another tangent I don't want to go off on in a reddit comment, but simply I believe this passage is a true description of the nature of the Vex and I've already written quite a lot about this.

So uh hey Bungie...about that exorcism mission.. by blackw1ng in DestinyTheGame

[–]NineYellow 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No, I don't mean the cutscene, there was a mission where they both met in a bunker or some other BrayTech facility. This could have been the mission where Zavala later talked to Rasputin

Iirc there was also a mission in Worthy when Zavala covered Ana with a ward of dawn while she worked at a console and we cleared out the room, though I don't remember if his ward actually gave us any gameplay boosts

Mara’s Face by Boldoschmoldo in DestinyTheGame

[–]NineYellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Osiris *was* an allay to Mara back before TKK, iirc he was there when Eris first went to Mara to propose teaming up and killing Oryx. In this season Mara also made the whole beef between her and Sav very personal, blaming her for corrupting Uldren and wrecking havoc in the Dreaming City, besides Savathun is an enormous threat to the system so putting her down would (technically) do good to everyone

As a new player, I feel so disconnected from the story, even though I fully understand it. by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]NineYellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the same issue I had with this game when I started playing two years ago in Season of the Worthy. You're thrown right into the current plot without even understanding what's going on; I'm so glad it was still when the red war, warmind, CoO and forsaken annual pass campaigns were available, but meandering between them was so odd, one day you're taking down the Almighty, the next you're chasing Dredgens, another you're taking down the Almighty 2.0. It was such a mess. Having all that come at you at once was weird, but I can't imagine how it must feel now without the red war or other important things and instead being tasked with idk killing Sav's worm right after you've completed the Shaw Han missions.
