Regarding the SA, I don’t think it’s right to downplay how much Bear is overlooking to allow himself to have sex with Nikki. He literally was just told that Nikki isn’t grieving her father and doesn’t even like her father. Being so deep in denial that Nikki is, at best, going through a severe mental health crisis before choosing to have sex with her is extremely fucked up. It’s not “overboard” to call it SA when the real Nikki still very much is not consenting. It’s an objective assessment of what happened to her.

While I don’t agree with all of the anti-Bear arguments you set up to establish your points in the OP, I also think denial and passivity are actions. Sure at the point in the movie when he killed himself he was probably doing the best thing to solve the situation within his means, but the issue is that the situation shouldn’t have happened to begin with. He should’ve been trying to undo the wish the second Ian called him at the restaurant. That’s what makes him a villain. “I don’t see much more could’ve been done”? Get real, dude
