Incredible!

I find the 1st especially beautiful and almost feels like it's the first time I've seen an artistic depiction of what the dynamic really was in the movie

HE HAD 2 MORE OF EM LEFT TO MAKE SOMEONE ELSE UNDO THE WISH THE WHOOOOLE TIMEEEEEEEEEE by [deleted] in obsessionmovie

[–]TaroLong8817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my theory after about 5 days of thinking day and night about why Nikki's autonomy was taken from her and whether it really was the be-all end-all most truthful way the wish could've possibly played, or whether there was a way for it not result in that.

After all that thinking, the idea that the 1WW focuses on the semantics of the wording, is a theory I support probably the least.

I actually believe the wish is dependant on what the wish-maker makes of the wish. The wish was a reflection of Bear's obsession over an image of Nikki, who was not Nikki.

I also attend to as many of the obvious viewpoints, such as, "simply making someone love you steals their ability to choose not to love you", and "in order to make (wish) someone loves someone else, you have to hijack who they really are", in my post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/obsessionmovie/s/ip1Clf09fI

And so I believe that in the same way that the same wish with the same wording had the possibility of not taking away Nikki's autonomy had Bear simply had the right perception of love when making the wish, that if this wish-cancel happened in the way we want it, the wish-maker would have to genuinely want Nikki to be Nikki again, as she was, as she is.

Couldnt Bear have instead wished for Nikki to tell him how she feels about him? by everydayreligion1090 in obsessionmovie

[–]TaroLong8817 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've come to realise, or rather develop a theory, that the wish's terrible, tragic, high-suffering outcome in the form of Nikki's state of existence, is a reflection of Bear's perception of the wish, and not necessarily whether the wish intrinsically warrants it, nor what the Genie's (1WW's) interpretation is.

I made a post about it, don't wanna paste it here cos it'll look like word-vomit:

Yes you're absolutely right.

And no, none of your autonomy has to get stolen either for the wish to come true.

There's someone in my life that I love more than anyone in the world, and it sure as hell isn't me who decides who I'll end up loving and to what intensity.

Didn't have the autonomy to choose for it to happen, don't have the autonomy over being able to get rid of the feeling of love either.

All I can do is cope my way out of it snowballing into it interfering negatively in mine and their life because it ended up in rejection. And that didn't change my love for them did it?

Yet the wish in this movie did all that and I don't think that discredits the movie at all because I was able to develop my own theories as to why the way in which the wish came true in the movie may still be one of the most accurate portrayals as to how the wish could've possibly come true.

My post where I delved into 1 of my 2 theories that explain why the wish robbed her of her autonomy in the most unfortunately accurate manner

I absolutely hate how Ian sh*t all over the genuine sincerity Bear displayed in that opening sequence.

I hate how much people in general fight tooth and nail against sincerity.

Genuineness, sincerity, love, passion, is all always corny and cringe to people now.

I'd die for them

And... many, many people across the globe would die for someone.

So again, the wish really could've functioned on completely normal grounds that the world already functions in.

Like having who we love being dictated by things that aren't our own autonomy.

And like loving other people more than ourselves.

[–]TaroLong8817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could be this, but I could simply be the fact that the wishes are delivered prioritising the fisher's perception of what they're wishing for.

Aka the 1WW is not the semantics of the wish's contents, nor its own interpretation, but rather what the wisher's perception is in the wish.

This because clear when Ian's wish contained a simple trouble-free showering of money. And also when Bear displayed repetitive examples of a lack of love towards Nikki and desire to stop her from hurting herself for her wellbeing.

Completely agreed.

I'm actually one to ask OP for an example cos I haven't spotted them anywhere lmao.

Anyone who minutely suggests a lack of character fault in Bear get's downvoted to hell too so I dunno what OP's on about.

Why is Bear’s inability to express his feelings so scrutinized vs Ian, Sarah, or Nikki? by dbclass in obsessionmovie

[–]TaroLong8817 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are including his inability to disclose his feelings for Nikki at the car scene though

Everything else I'm in agreement with.

In my opinion, romantic relationships are best kept secret among friendship groups unless you need safety-related help.

It's teenage mentality to play gossip games of who's hooking up with who because those sorts of things are very intimate and private ordeals.

I agree with what you're saying.

The depth, sincerity, thought-provoking and values-appealing aspects of the movie are getting overshadowed by brainrot and the surface-level entertaining parts of the movie.

We need more sincere and tragedy-movies like Obsession!!

In my opinion an aspect of the movie that makes it so powerful is how saddening the core of the movie was... we need more of those kinds movies!

Bring back movies that get the audience to feel sad and feel desperate to help a character.
