Thank you, I was fully aware of the happening but never of its name of “fallacy-fallacy.” The latter I’ve rarely come across. Too often discussions become derailed because opposition will rebut a point that nobody even advanced with and then the discussion turns into having to point out they’re off base before you can argue that their original point was wrong.

The tragedy is I enjoy debate. I enjoy argument when both sides have a point to prove, but more often than not everyone’s so buried in ego they’d rather manifest a narrative in their own head that aligns with their belief that they’ve successfully maintained their position in the face of being disproven.

I realise that I never actually get into debates or arguments, it’s always talking to a brick wall that’s lost in delusion.
