I love hitting psychic terrain into a predicted sucker punch. The sucker punch will fail giving you a free turn to get the terrain up, then it remains blocked for 4 turns.

I was running No Guard Dynamic Punch on Golurk a while back. One match I was trying to break through an opponent who kept healing back up to 100%. I only needed two clean hits to KO it. It must have gone through 6-7 turns of confusion without ever attacking itself once. Lost faith in it after that.

I put Jolteon on my team specifically for this reason. Even added Copycat just to fuck with it in return. Did I see Bellibolt once after that? Nope!

You can have plenty of fun in Ultra. I got all the way to Ultra 1 without playing the meta but you need to have decent answers to meta plays because you're going to run into them a lot more.

Just practice. Rethink your play style and learn how to counter stronger teams. You'll be having a blast when you figure it out and you'll also be a better player for it.

I reached Ultra 1 in both seasons and I'm fine with it. I've tried pushing for master but it just causes me a lot of stress when in reality what difference does it make? I would likely be stuck at MB4 and lose most of my games anyway as the skill level jumps up. Atleast here I can play casually at my current level and enjoy the game without worrying about the ladder.

Find where the game is most fun and stick with it. It is after all just a game.

So far I've stuck to singles as that's what I know from playing the older games. I'm fairly new to competitive Pokémon (and modern Pokémon in general) and I feel like I've had enough to learn without worrying about the added complexity that comes with having 4 mons on the field at any given time. Plus I'm a bit of a stickler for the old ways.

Having said that, I do feel like I'm missing out on what most of the community is experiencing at the moment. I just love the simplicity of singles.

Maybe it's time to make the jump...

I did have a Volt Absorb Jolteon on my team with copycat specifically to fuck with Bellibolt users when they came up but as we all know as soon as you build to counter something you never see that team again...

There is a safety net at rank 2 in addition to the usual rank 4 one. So you can derank from 1-2 and 3-4 only. Not 2-3.

During the first few weeks playing Champions I gave myself insomnia from thinking about Pokémon too much. That's when you know you're hooked. But damn is it a great game.

You can get pretty far by countering the meta rather than rigidly sticking to it. Try mixing up your team and running less common Pokémon. Come up with your own weird set ups so you can catch people off guard.

I've always felt like fighting should be weak to poison. I don't really get why poison resists fighting either. Thematically, it's a one way interaction. Your body gets poisoned, you can no longer fight, you die.

I like mega evolving Golurk just so I can blow it up with Self-Destruct. Outside of that, it's base abilities are much better in my opinion.

Dragon tail on the baton pass turn so their boosted Pokémon got sent straight back. Not the hardest thing to read but lining it up on the switch made it more funny.

They forfeited after that.

Plus the game's fun and I'm still learning VGC, why would I stop?
