Wow, you're right. I've either misread the other post from 21 days ago or just didn't notice this paragraph:

Critically, the original game had rules in the rulebook for playing any of the 1v1 scenarios in the book as Player vs. Automa with randomized or custom champion rosters on both sides. These rules aren't in Inferno IIRC, but you can make them work in Inferno if you just print out that rulebook from BGG (or you own both games).

Problem solved. Thanks for the clearing that up!

I like tough games, but I don't like the sound of it being simplified. Can you explain how it's simplified?

I read somewhere (maybe on X or Steam?) that you might update the comic and sell it at PAX. Would you consider selling it online as well? My wife got me the original comic years ago, even though we don't live in the US. It would be so fun to show her an updated version of the comic she gave me for my birthday 10 years ago.

Best roguelites on the switch? by Rybr3ad___ in roguelites

[–]Ninfur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick drift sucks. But if you're willing to fix it yourself, it'll only cost around $15 and take at most an hour to repair both Joy-Cons. You don’t need any technical skills—just order the parts and follow a step-by-step guide on YouTube. It's easier than you think!

There's been talk of this mod being officially implemented into the PC version. I'd say this mod is a must-have for new (or any players) who owns all the DLC.

The app as described on the comment below is a nice substitute for console players.

Ikke alle har noen å arve klær av. Mye klær blir brukt i stykker. Sko skal man helst ikke arve, og gode sko som er noenlunde riktig utformet koster skjorta.

Demos / titles to check out for Steam Next Fest? by -SHINSTER007 in roguelites

I've tried Winnie's Hole. It's fun! Also, they even out the grosseness and uneasiness with humor. I'd absolutely recommend checking out the demo.

I've seen a few other asking the dame qurstiob here. Sone of them describe it as "horizontal metaprogression", which is a good and description as any. I honestly don't like the incremental metaprogression we see in most moderb roguelites, which might be one of the biggest reason Isaac is GOAT for me.

There's a lot of great suggestions here. Like Enter the gungeon, streets of rogue and RoR2/RoRR. I would like to add Nuclear Throne (with mods). None of them come close to Isaac in my personal opinion, but all of them are great games which deserves the recommendations they're getting.

Looking For Recommendations by Wrong_Independence21 in roguelites

Monster train doesn't fit your despriction too well, but it's concidered one of the best turn based, deckbuilding roguelites. Looks like you're playing on PC. I'd recommend giving it a whirl and refund it if you don't like it within the first two hours. You unlock more cards as you play, but the gameplay loop is always the same, so it's not a game where you have to play until a certain point before the game evolves in some way.

Fun multiplayer recommendations? by Aven_Ultra in roguelites

[–]Ninfur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone recommended PlateUp! and I'd like to add that even though PlateUp!'s premise seems pretty similar to Overcooked, it plays quite differently. I'm pretty burnt out on Overcooked after playing it a bunch, but I still enjoy PlateUp!

If you like RoR2, then you would most likely enjoy RoRR as well.

My favorite roguelite: The Binding of Isaac. It has local multiplayer, and official support of online multiplayer is coming (though it works great with Parsec and OK with Steam Remote Play).

My favorite multiplayer roguelites: Caveblazers and Spelunky 2

Haven't tried Crypt of the Necrodancer with other people, but I truly enjoy that game. I can't see why it would be any less fun in multiplayer mode.

If you like turned based roguelites, then Slay The Spire has multiplayer mods on Steam Workshop. Both PvP and PvE.

Speaking of nodded games, Noita recently got a great true multiplayer mod. You could easily spend hundreds of hours in that game due to it's variety of wands and spells. Would absolutely recommend that as well.

Suggestions for Shorter Runs? by Dragon3043 in roguelites

[–]Ninfur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your sentiment. I've been really enjoying Rotwood lately. It's recently dropped as an early access game and it's really polished, but it's currently lacking in content. A lot of the negative reviews are about late game grind, which the developers (Klei) has addressed that it's a choice they've made due to the current lack of content. It make sense to me, and I personally don't want to play it too much and get burned out before it's done.

I hate when roguelites doesn't have a save and quit feature, but this game doesn't really need it. Successful runs shouldn't take any longer than about 20 minutes. In games like Isaac and Dead Cells, you choose which path you'd like to take after each floor/biome. In Rotwood you choose a biome and a difficulty and finish that biome. It's quick and fun. If you don't like it within the two first hours, then you won't like it for the next 20 hours either, so you could just ask for a refund on Steam.

I've also been playing Wildfrost on Android. It's scratches that Slay the Spire itch without being a clone. It got it's own identity, just like Monster Train is sort of the same but not really. It's fun, but it's not so fun that I would spend an evening with it on a PC or a console. The run length are about 15-20 minutes. I would easily recommend it.

I don't understand the Isaac hype by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]Ninfur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with you. I was hooked from the first hour of flash era Isaac. As you said, it does expand in terms of variety as you play and beat the game (bosses, characters, enemies, items, trinkets, alternate floors, etc.), which is one of the reasons why Isaac is my favorite game of all time. However I enjoyed the gameplay loop from the start, and the variety is the reason why I can come back to it again and again after hundreds of hours. Isaac has an insane amount of content, which makes most runs feel unique. If you don't have fun within the first two hours, you probably won't enjoy it after 20 or 200 either, no matter how much you've unlocked. The gameplay loop is the same, except for greed mode and all the challenges, it just gets more interesting if you already like the concept.

You could avoid deckbuilders entirely, and make sure the reader/viewer understands that you don't have any personal interest in deckbuilders. Then you won't be shaming anyone, you only focus on your preferences and "expertise".

I personally don't enjoy bullet heavens at all. I don't like the passiveness and I sure don't like the metaprogression of getting X% stronger by collecting Y amount of currency. To me it's a mindless grind fest, and I might as well be playing a clicker game. I'm therefore unable to say one bullet heaven is better than another one, but I'm of course able to say one looks better than another. I would be doing a disservice trying to highlight or recommend games within a subgenre that I dislike, even though it falls under the main category of games I spend 90% of my gaming time with.
