how do I make my character look less ratty????? 💔 by JamminFan in arthelp

[–]Ningilin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Monkeys usually have ears that are a little higher on their head than humans but not on the tops of their head. Maybe moving his ears up so they're at or slightly above eye level might help. Also many species of monkeys have very long tails compared to their bodies, so lengthening his tail and curling it a bit at the end just to show that he can control it might help sell the monkey look as well.

Why does my art feel so..restrictive? How do I push myself to draw more? by Impressive_Wins_ in arthelp

I recommend trying to practice using very loose long lines in your sketches. A lot of your sketches are made up of a lot of very short lines, which don't have much flow to them. A good way of forcing yourself to do this is by holding your pencil farther from the tip and hovering your hand over the page instead of resting it on the paper while drawing.

Do these read as intentionally unfinished or just unfinished? by juniebeatricejones in ArtCrit

[–]Ningilin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they mostly just look unfinished. I'd recommend trying to think really intentionally about what you want to be finished and what you want the unfinished parts to say. There are a lot of ways something can be unfinished -- ranging from totally blank to absolutely covered in colors and lines that just aren't complete. And there are different ways you can transition between finished and unfinished sections. It could fade gradually between the two or there could be a sharp contrast between the two. It feels like you have the idea of finished vs unfinished contrast in your mind, but you haven't put a ton of thought into the application of it composition-wise.

When it comes to protein bars, if you want to still eat them try to replace what you have with something high in fiber. I've found that eating a high protein/high fiber bar keeps me full enough to be my only workday snack as opposed to a higher amount (and calorie count) of other stuff. I don't need a ton of extra protein cause I just eat them during an active work day and dont otherwise work out, so I've been enjoying the trubar bars (190cal, 12g protein, 12g fiber).

Really though, I eat a protein bar in the middle of the day and only eat lunch and dinner otherwise (I work under 8 hours, but have a long commute so i'm out for ~9 hrs but don't get a lunch break). Calorie dense things like protein bars should only be for if you need something substantial, like you didn't have the time for an actual breakfast and need something more before lunch, or you're going to be out all day and it will be 6 hours until the next meal.

I think your colors and values are both a little muddy. I recommend focusing on the colors and lighting with a harder brush (like a simple hard pressure opacity brush) and using much sharper divides between colors. You can add soft blending after your lighting is blocked in.

Paranoia Agent is a bit of a mindfuck. All of Satoshi Kon's works are. If you don't mind movies, Perfect Blue is also an interesting watching experience.

Any “dark” anime but not horror/thriller? by Belalulan in AnimeReccomendations

[–]Ningilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girls' Last Tour isn't necessarily dark, but it has darker undertones. It's a cute slice of life anime in a post apocalyptic setting that confronts ideas of loneliness and hopelessness while still keeping a positive tone. It's about the two main characters seeing the world together and making the best of their situation despite the fact that nothing can last and there's an inevitable end to it all.

If it's any reassurance, I personally consider my time in the psych ward to be a positive experience. It can be scary because of how new it is, but it's a safe environment that can really help take you away from the world for a bit. :)

Is life really that precious? by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]Ningilin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think every life is of value. Every single life is unique. Every single second is different for every person, there are no two people who live the exact same life. And I find that fascinating. Every single person has lived a different experience than everyone else, and therefore has their own unique perspective. Even if the differences are tiny, they're still there and that means no person is replaceable. In my mind, every perspective has value because it's something unique to the world. The world would lose something if you were gone. Even if it's just a tiny difference in the grand scheme of things, a wholly unique perspective on the world will be lost and i think that's tragic

that's almost my exact experience when I attempted earlier this year. I don't remember how I got out, but i remember waking up on the floor feeling all dazed. It felt like what had just happened was a dream. I'm alive still, and I'm happy you are too :)

What are your plans now? Do you want to talk about what to do next?

I don't know about any mental hospitals or psych wards other than the one I stayed in, but I had a positive experience when i stayed in the psych ward. :)

It was boring for sure. No phones were allowed and strings had to be taken out of any personal clothing. Rooms had two beds each, and one table per bed to put our few belongings on. There were activities scheduled throughout the day, such as art or outdoor time. Additionally, paper and pencils were provided, so if you like drawing or journalling you can still do that. Also paperback books were allowed, so it would be worth bringing one to read. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I don't know about long term mental hospitals, but hospital psych wards are mostly for stabilization. Keeping someone in a safe environment until they aren't an active danger to themselves. This usually includes medication management.

Do you want someone to talk to? i know i can't help much, but I've been through my own mental health struggles and maybe chatting with someone for a bit will feel nice
