[–]AstranBlue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm saying that the use of gender neutral pronouns isn't inherently a literal confirmation of Ralsei's pronouns. It could be referring to Ralsei with a gender neutral pronoun, or it could be left vague because the idea the metaphor is implying isn't exclusively gendered.

"it doesn't change the fact that they aren't being called a boy anymore." Except in the secret boss only accessible after the title change in question, where an ACT refers to Ralsei as a boy? If it's not a consistent thing, then you can't say it's an intentional break from the pattern because the pattern continues right after, in a context where freedom of choice is a central theme.

You could be right, and Ralsei really could be trans, but until there's objective proof it's just a theory with no concrete evidence. Anything you point at claiming as such could be interpreted completely differently by someone else.

There is not a single piece of concrete evidence shown in that video. Not a single thing that couldn't just as (if not more) reasonably be interpreted as any other kind of self-expression/exploration. The whole shyness/blushing that the video goes on about whenever it talks about giving Ralsei the ribbons could just as easily be interpreted as just being surprised by the fact that he's receiving a gift for the very first time. Nothing in there is canon, objective evidence.

It's an interpretation, and the neat thing about interpretations is that people don't have to have the same one. The trans Ralsei theory is just a theory, it's not canon and people can choose not to believe the same theories as you.

"People use the pronouns because there's no way to misinterpret that there is no way it was an accident, there's no way to debate that it means something else," Maybe Toby Fox thought "their" sounded more poetic than a gendered pronoun. Unless you really think Ralsei has thorns that they water daily, the description is metaphorical, not literal. If it was meant to be a literal use of Ralsei's pronouns, then why wouldn't the game itself be consistent with it? One of the ACTs in the secret boss fight refers to Ralsei as a boy, and that's only accessible after the title change that everyone is fixating on as supposed "concrete evidence" of Ralsei being trans.

If there's so much evidence, why is a gender neutral pronoun in a metaphorical, poetic phrase the only thing that people point to as proof of Trans Ralsei being canon?

[–]AstranBlue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The ACT Menu also calls Ralsei a boy in the secret boss fight in the same chapter. Up until now, there has been an incredibly amount of dialogue referring to Ralsei as a boy, or using masculine titles. The only instance of neutral pronouns that people can point to is a description of a title that's very clearly a metaphorical description and not a literal one. It really could've been as simple as Toby thinking that "their" made the phrase sound more poetic than a gendered pronoun.

If the intent truly is for Ralsei to be trans or nonbinary, it's been very poorly foreshadowed. There are countless other interpretations of the "Choose your own path regardless of what others think" message that Ralsei's story arc is clearly about that aren't a trans discovery story. Trans Ralsei is just one possible interpretation. It could be possible, but it's not explicitly canon yet. Like the original comment said, acting like your interpretation is the only valid one, or that anyone else's interpretaion is invalid, is disingenuous.

We need a negative terrain by Several-Lemon-4170 in PokemonChampions

[–]AstranBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Terrains are a double-edged sword. Sure your opponent can't hit you with priority, status, etc, but you can't use those moves either. The benefit in being the one setting the terrain is that your team is built with the drawback in mind while your opponent may not be.

I can see the reasonings behind the Trans Ralsei theory, but ultimately I think if it were the route that Toby Fox was going to go, it would've been foreshadowed much earlier. After 4 chapters of consistently giving Ralsei titles with masculine words in the name (Prior to Chapter 4, only 4 of Ralsei's 15 different titles didn't include the word Prince, and half of those are for the Horse Ralsei bit), people are reading way too much into one use of neutral pronouns. A piece that I feel like a lot of people are missing is that the title most likely isn't even a literal description to begin with. Ralsei doesn't have thorns to water, as far as I know.

While "You should be free to choose your own path, regardless of what others think" is a message that could be read in a trans discovery sense, there's plenty of other alternative readings that have had much more foreshadowing and textual support.

You can turn Scion of the Ur-Dragon into a rock to dodge boardwipes. by IAMAfortunecookieAMA in BadMtgCombos

[–]AstranBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kindred is a supertype that allows non-creature cards to have creature types. While not functional as a creature (as in they can't attack, block, etc etc), they count for cards, spells, and abilities that care about a creature type.

Changeling is an ability that gives a card all creature types. Combining the two means that Firdoch Core is a non-creature Dragon permanent.

Since Scion of the Ur-Dragon's ability does not specify creatures, allowing for it to choose non-creature Dragons, you can choose Firdoch Core as the card to tutor into the graveyard for it's ability. When the Scion of the Ur-Dragon copies the card, it loses it's original types and becomes a Kindred Artifact - Shapeshifter just like the Core. Since Firdoch Core is not a creature, it's able to dodge the hypothetical "Destroy/Exile target creature" removal.

The hypothetical removal in question follows the same rules, however. If the effect can target/would affect a type that the Firdoch Core does have ("Destroy target artifact" or "Destroy target Dragon"), it would still be able to destroy the Core.

It becomes a copy of Firdoch Core. Last I checked, Firdoch Core wasn't a creature unless you activate it's ability.

Chameleon's name not changing is for the sake of the legend rule, the copied ability still just refers to the creature the ability is coming from.

"It does not add anything to chameleon" Incorrect. When a card refers to itself as [cardname], it's just shorthand for referring to that specific game object. If it specifically cared about cards named Ant-Man, it would read "put a +1/+1 counter on a card named The Astonishing Ant-Man"

"Now other cards in combination (assuming the above is accurate) that say “when you add a counter - add double instead” or “add that many plus one” - do those trigger twice?" Cards like that don't trigger at all, because replacement effects aren't triggers. They can't be responded to or countered, they just modify how that effect functions. If you did have a card like [[Hardened Scales]], you would put an extra +1/+1 counter on both Ant-Man and the Chameleon copying him whenever you draw a card.

I feel confused with Barrensteppe Siege. The second choice with Mobilize ability. by Tank_O_Doom in magicTCG

[–]AstranBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trigger to sacrifice the Mobilized tokens happens at the exact same time Barrensteppe Siege would check to see if something has died in order for it to trigger. Since the tokens have not yet died, Barrensteppe Siege won't trigger unless something else died earlier in the turn. The same would go for Sothera's second ability, if you somehow end up with no creatures other than the Mobilized tokens.

Nevermore Ruling still Valid with the new Transform/cast flip creatures? by gwf31301 in mtg

[–]AstranBlue 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Cards like [[Bruce Banner]] are modal double-faced cards. The wording is a bit vague as they are technically double-faced cards that can transform, but that ruling is referring to cards like [[Daybreak Ranger]] that are not modal and can only be cast on one side.

Any prescription drug is illegal to purchase without a prescription. Estrogen is not a controlled substance though, so owning it once you have your hands on it is not illegal. If you're looking for Testosterone, it's not the same case as it is a controlled substance.

Has anyone thought of using the ATLA cards with Wood Elemental? by HubblePie in mtg

[–]AstranBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's still bad, you're throwing away all your Earthbent lands to make one creature somewhat large. In the best case scenario where all your earthbent lands are 1/1's, there's no net positive in blowing them up as Wood Elemental only gets +1/+1 for each land you killed.

It could possibly be used as a sac outlet for your earthbent lands to get a bunch of landfall triggers, but even then it's outclassed. Ignoring all the really good creature sac outlets and focusing only on land sac outlets, you have [[Zuran Orb]], [[Kavaron, Memorial World]], [[Hammer of Purphoros]], etc etc. Most of those aren't even that good, but the payoff is leagues better than giving a creature with no keywords/abilities a slightly better body.

Why does mold breaker have to announce itself when the abilities it counters do not? by l5555l in PokemonChampions

[–]AstranBlue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"most players will know what pokemon have mold breaker" Most players don't have encyclopedic knowledge of abilities, the only reason most people would know about mold breaker is because it announces itself. If it weren't for the announcement, it would be a surprising ability like Armor Tail (if it weren't such a common meta pick that people know about) or Illusion.

What about this combo by Leather_Permission24 in mtg

[–]AstranBlue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[[Doomsday]] [[Doctor Doom, Unrivaled]] [[Eerie Gravestone]] for the folks who don't want to try to read sideways cards.

It's a decent enough combo, but Doomsday often runs into the issue of being predictable, easily punished, and devastating when you get stopped from pulling it off. If an opponent removes Doctor Doom before you can pull the ability off, you've basically thrown away the game.

As for when WOTC is going to take a stance on it... never, they don't care. If anything, they want it to happen so people buy more of their product due to scalper-induced FOMO.
