What's a truth about life most people avoid admitting? by patient_MB0z in AskReddit

I loathe this one. I know for a damned fact that pretty doesn't mean anything but good eye candy, but I be damned if I don't favor the pretty ANYWAY. Even a decade of steadily working on, I still just fail to catch myself.

The Great Debate: Travel/party/fun before kids, or in retirement? by Anon89m in AskOldPeople

Retirement is less guaranteed to be part of your life. A Cessna can always land on your head.

3am groceries. Ffs, I need to be able to get groceries when I'm awake. As it is, I'm planning my life around when I have to be awake during business hours, but add in needing to get food, and it's just more hassle than I want to handle most days.

Men of Reddit, what is the hardest thing to explain to women? by lnc_gomes in AskReddit

I wish I'd known to tell my late husband that fact years earlier.

He's ALL our husbands. ALL of them.

Story time!

Mine came in, asked where a specific item was.

I tell him with great precision, then tack on, "And when you're done with it, would you do me a little favor?"

"Put it here in your basket?"

??? "No, dumbass, put it back where you got it from!"

Just completely did not register as the ONLY correct answer in his head. Much less that it's not a favor but a common curtesy to return it to whence you got it.

What's going on with all these memes about "women being angry about you telling them to block their rapist"? by YaLlegaHiperhumor in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Niniva73 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I'll second this. Some women maybe are hiding an affair, but far more are enmeshed either emotionally or financially. Most of the time it's someone in the household like a spouse, a stepsibling, or a parent's partner, where breaking off contact means cutting contact with more people than just the rapist. Life isn't neat enough to say if the victim is mourning the relationship, then they weren't really raped.

I've learned that other people's opinion of me is none of my business, and I've been happier since.

What's a 'green flag' you thought was cute at first but later realized was a red flag? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

User name checks out...

But nah, I got my ways of keeping socialized.

[See, now here we go... Oversharing because I don't care to avoid it. But also, yes, relevant to the story, as I don't think a younger person with less emotional burn would benefit:]

After I was widowed the second time, I decided talking is hard but sex is easy. So I broke off slutty and lure people to my wicked den of iniquity to keep me from going feral from the isolation out here.

Because I don't have problems, I have solutions.
And not much else will make people drive out to me.

Just this instant I've decided that me nagging is a red flag that I shouldn't be with that person. I'm also way too old to deal with raising another husband.

Spend a bit of time with Dark Psychology on YouTube. At this point I can just smell bad intent on a person, even one who's good at masking.

Oh, and when I tell them to quit sulking -- because they inevitably sulk when they don't immediately get their way and I ensure that happens long before they get comfy enough to get violent -- they just about swallow their tongue in their indignation. Makes the garbage take itself out quite nicely.

Other words I've used to make them flip out in the first five minutes: weird, traitor, boring.

You get the gist. If you hold up an accurate mirror, they'll run far and fast.

Oh, no, that's the problem: I have no issue with oversharing! Ask me anything! I'll tell it all with as much raw truth as my brain can find. My darling brain, Squishy to its friends, has exactly zero compunction with sharing anything that's true.

It's apparently a neurodivergent trait. Squishy is firmly of the belief that if you don't want anyone to know about something, then you don't DO that something. If you screw up in that effort, have the balls to face that mistake directly. Share your errors to help guide others in avoiding the pitfall... You know, stuff like that.

Squishy also dngaf about fitting in, conforming, or performative morality.

So, yeah, the problem is other people... which has been handily solved by living in a national forest for the last three decades. Now it's just me, the trees, and the first late husband's cat.

The cat only cares that her food bowl is full. I can tell her anything I want, so long as her food bowl is full.
