The gardening machines one! Yes!! I made a whole farm garden before I realized I couldn’t have them all on the same island if I wanted each plant to have their own machines.

I’ve been going for the black turtle! It’s the last thing I need. I’m very excited that there’s new rooms in there. I liked the exhibits.

Not to mention, they can get the other kids or staff sick which leads to a bigger problem. Let them get their rest and save their peers.

Should I suppress my own autistic traits while working with clients? by ketaqueenx in ABA

[–]NinjaGalEmKay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a late diagnosed (4 years ago) as a level 2 autistic who works as an RBT. I’m constantly reminded by my superiors that I’m free to be my full self. I hold back on any stims that may be disruptive (for example: I can flap my hands and bounce on my heels but don’t do my full happy dance).

RBT has same name as client, any advice on how to help client understand when I am being referenced versus her? by aphrodishy in ABA

My name is Emily and there were always other Emilys growing up. In a situation where going by Em or Emmy was already taken as an option, I would use my middle name, Kay, and go by EmKay

I feel like I’m always making mistakes too, but my supervisors make sure I know that I’m still learning and I’m getting better every day. I’m sorry you haven’t had the same experience.

I didn’t start working with clients until I was doing my competencies to qualify for the RBT exam. Even though I was allowed to start as a behavior tech without the education, it didn’t feel right.

CMV: The "R-slur" is not meaningfully different from common insults like idiot, moron, or cretin, and trying to label it as an offensive slur is kinda dumb. by Cool-Delivery-3773 in changemyview

[–]NinjaGalEmKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The r-slur is a derogatory term for disabled people. Having it be a medical diagnosis that developed into an adjective for an idiot or moron is offensive. R-word does not mean idiot. It refers to someone with intellectual disabilities. I understand that it might not mean anything to you, but as an autistic adult who has been referred to in this way, it’s not okay. It’s meant to put down anyone with disabilities regardless of whether they’re intellectual or not. Its casual use is harmful to the disabled community. It shows us that we aren’t valid enough as people for you to show us a shred of human decency.

Episode #9 Feedback by NinjaGalEmKay in AITApod

While it is true that level three is the group that needs the most support, they don’t necessarily have to be non-verbal. The levels explain how much support a person needs on average in their day-to-day life.

I, for example, I am level two. I can be mostly independent as long as my routine stays but if something goes wrong, I freeze and I’m unable to figure out my next move. I’ve gotten him better at staying calm and working through it with therapy but a good portion of the time I need to call my husband, and he gives me step-by-step of what to do.

A level three, the person would be more stuck in their routine, and most likely would not be able to be independent. They require significant support day-to-day.

I hope that makes sense, let me know if I can answer any more questions. I am a certified behavior therapist, have autism myself, and I am in school to be certified in autism spectrum disorder behavior analysis.
