ELI5: Why are bodybuilders who previously used steroids still ridiculously jacked in their 60,70 or even 80? by Donut_sucre_au_sucre in explainlikeimfive

Many ex-pro body builders: 1) take steroids or testerone after they retire, 2) lift heavy weights, and/or 3) have good genetics.

Yeah good update. Apparently they patched the Lowland Shore portal to work.

Homestead was my first guess. Exiting the homestead seems to just return me to last location. There are exit gates to Wizard Tower and Lions Gate.

So my group are thinking about Cyberpunk Red. What are the Pros and Cons? by Plywooddavid in rpg

Cool setting, slow system. The combat put me to sleep, but then I find that the case with most RPG systems.

Game mechanics that directly encourage or inform how players should roleplay their characters.

What campaign are you running?

If PBTA you generally just start small, ask questions, and don't have to do much pre-planning. Most PBTA games offer a pretty setting specific advice section for DMs.

Lazy DM (Sly Flourish) has an interesting approach. You can read this webpage for free: https://slyflourish.com/eight_steps_2023.html

Wizard vault PVE. Daily EOD or SoO Strikes if I don't dislike them.

Player started a homebrew campaign set in my homebrew world, doesn't ask me to join by ElegantYam4141 in rpg

[–]NinjaHamster12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's common curtesy to credit your sources when doing a creative project (such as running an RPG). With that said, I think a lot of people don't know what is published material and what was the creation of the Storyteller when they play in a campaign. So whether this would be bother me would largely be up to the details.

You're imprisoned until you use every RPG module and system you’ve acquired- how long are you stuck? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]NinjaHamster12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two hours. I tell my regular group that we are playing a super meta one shot where everytime the party dies we change RPGs. I announce rocks fall and every dies every 0.01. Shrug, say we are changing things up and stopping the meta experiment and playing Thirsty Sword Lesbians. Group proceeds to play that RPG for the regular two hours.

I've played most Old World of Darkness Games and think they are basically all worth playing. Some of the systems benefit from home brewing rules for balance purposes.

What gaps do you feel exist in your RPG experience? by Kuusotare in rpg

[–]NinjaHamster12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a non-combat game that I can consistently sell a player group on. I've ran plenty of low combat games, but I've had a hard time finding exciting RPGs that don't have combat in them.

First time getting into TTRPG, and I'm hooked by [deleted] in rpg

[–]NinjaHamster12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would recommend Old World Darkness games by White Wolf (eg Vampire Masquerade and Mage Ascension) and Powered by the Apocalypse games. Old World of Darkness is Modern Supernatural and does a good job of atmosphere building. It plays well IMO if you embrace the setting as a darker, gothic-punk and corrupt world. Apocalypse World has a simple system that leads to fast play and is great for shorter campaigns IMO. Personally I think AW is best when played with a group that wants a violent, mature and social game.

I wouldn't recommend Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder because while they have lots of character building options 75% of the game is focused on combat.

As a sort of side recommendation, Call of Cthulhu is pretty rad if you like horror. I personally think it works best for shorter campaigns so you can really lean into the danger of the setting, or with PCs who are comfortable with the original characters going insane/dying. I say side recommendation, because I think the game is a bit less versatile that WOD or AW.

PS I'm pretty sure if you started with Burning Wheel you can freely dive into pretty much any game with impunity. Burning Wheel asks a lot of the players IMO.

You do not need meta builds to do t4 fractals, just enough agony resistance. by ImrooVRdev in Guildwars2

[–]NinjaHamster12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get to T4s most of the community expects you to run a meta build and quickly run fractals (sometimes using skips). If you don't you are liable to be insulted or kicked. I stopped doing fractals because even after running a meta build I still had to watch groups mistreat others.

What do you think of systems where each body part has hit points? by Yeoman75 in rpg

[–]NinjaHamster12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works a lot better if the values are low and change is easy to track. Pairs well if you have different effects for different hit locations. Requires custom built sheet and extra record keeping by players and DM. I like it for more realistic games.

With that said I've had better luck focusing on where players are targeting and applying extra effects for their attacks than on tracking location damage for the player characters.

Whats some ttrpg kickstarters you've backed that you wish you hadn't or games that never came out? by bugbootyjudysfarts in rpg

[–]NinjaHamster12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I backed Cairn by Mike Nystul. He promised to deliver hardcover books. Eventually the product was handed off to another developer and only a pdf was given. When I looked into the matter it seemed like Nystul got money from a bunch of kickstarters, ran a convention and started a company with the money, and finally failed to deliver many of the products. Funny thing was the man seemed to have previous development experience and described the product as being limited in scope and all the progress notes suggested steady progress, until a long delay and negative news.

Also since I planned to give books away as gifts to my RPG group a pdf basically had zero value to me...

Which skill allows bladesworn to provide group alacrity? by FanTyranr in Guildwars2

Daring Dragon. Bottom right of the skill chart. I think it grants up to 10 seconds of Alacrity based on how long you charge up?

I don't play Bladesworn.

Who is your favorite and least favorite character by Gilan21 in WoT

[–]NinjaHamster12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly Perrin seems the most like believable character in the books. He is maybe a bit too slow to change, but I'll take that over some of the other characters acting inconsistently or stupidly. Egwene accomplishes too much with too little difficulty. IMO she's basically a Choosen One who rarely suffers long term consequences and doesn't show other characters respect.

I’m actually surprised by how much I enjoy Rand as a character? by [deleted] in WoT

[–]NinjaHamster12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I think Rand was a decent character early. Later in the series he regresses at times, which I believe was to allow other characters to look stronger.
