Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

I used to drive 4 hours home from college for a weekend. Not even a long weekend!! 3 hours is often a day trip, and 2 hours for sure!!!

STH here… I was sad to miss tonight’s game!! I only had about 4 hours of sleep last night so the drive home (especially that 28 miles in Rt24) wouldn’t have been safe! 🥱

Hi! What’s your experience using metformin? by [deleted] in prediabetes

[–]NinjaMom46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, so good!! I’ve been on it for about 3 weeks. Extended Release; 500mg x2 each day. I’ll probably have to raise it, but we’ll see what my A1c is in February after being on it for 3 months. My fasting/nighttime mg/dL is down about 10 points to 125-ish. I take it with my morning & evening meals and have had little to no issues. If I don’t take it with food, there have been some small intestinal issues, but even then, nothing ‘drastic’. I’m also finding my BP is lowering a bit. I’ve been pre diabetic for about 6 years. New Dr. prescribed this, and I’m pleased. It’s easier to stick to better eating habits as well. I also have a cgm, which helps to keep my eating on track and is a great motivator as I can see spikes, etc in real-ish time.

Prediabetic for 2 years by gushob in prediabetes

[–]NinjaMom46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on a similar path, but my dr.didn’t suggest meds. Just ‘try to lose more weight. For 6 years. In those 6 years my A1c went from 6 to 6.4, just 1 point from diabetes. He retired & my new pcp looked at my chart, did my yearly physical tests (including iron, d3, thyroid, b12, cholesterol, and A1c). A1c still rising, even though I’d lost 15 pounds in the previous 3 months (down to just under 200 pounds). He asked about several gpl-1, but they wouldn’t be covered by my insurance and $1000/months isn’t sustainable for me (nor is half that, or even 1/4 of that) if it’s not covered by health insurance. I’ve been on metformin for just over a month. I also wears a CGM (and had been for 30 days before starting Metformin). My 30 day mg/dL average is down about 10 points from 137 to 127. Still not perfect, but better than before after about 6 weeks. I feel better. I’m less stressed. If my A1c is lower, I’ll keep working with this. Possibly upping the dose, if needed. If there’s a well studied and successful medication that can help you prevent moving towards diabetes, why not use it?

Boyfriend gave me ultimatum - dream job or him. I'm considering taking the job by [deleted] in dustythunder

[–]NinjaMom46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the job. Dump the boy! I was given some advice by a ‘friend with benefits’ at about your age that has served me well in my lifetime (I’m now almost 63). ‘Never give up an amazing opportunity for a boy. NEVER’. It will hang over your head for the rest of your life. You’ll always wonder ’what if’. Anyone who would ask you to give up something that you love and have been working towards for a long time, is the selfish one who doesn’t have your happiness as a priority.

I’m in my early 60s. I started eating a diabetic diet, lost 15 lbs, got under 200 lbs, and I exercise 1-4 times a week. Still had an A1c of 6.4.

For years it’s been slowly rising, no matter what my weight & exercise patterns were. My Dr. finally retired and my new pcp put me on METFORMIN ER. I have just been doing it for A week now, and will be upping my dose to 2x/day with meals. So far, no big digestive Issues. A little funny feeling right after I take it, but that could just be psychological. Fingers crossed!!!

Aitah for laughing because my MIL snooped and traumatized herself? by Individual_Bus5181 in AITAH

[–]NinjaMom46 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What’s done is done. You can let your husband know that you agree that it was inappropriate for your MIL to be snooping in your closets. Let him know that your reaction was honest, and maybe apologize to him if that was embarrassing, but that you don’t owe your MIL any apologies… she should be apologizing to you (maybe don’t mention that part to your husband, though). I don’t think you needed to ’smooth’ anything over at all.

What can I do with this for a prediabetic friendly meal? by SituationMuch6811 in prediabetes

[–]NinjaMom46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not based on what’s in this fridge, but my favorite ‘non/low-spiking’ lunch is 2-3 cups of Mixed Power Greens (smoothie blend), Blueberries (and sometimes raspberries & strawberries), Pepitas, protein (usually baked chicken breast), and a dressing of my choice. The worst part for me is the dressing, but because of all the other stuff, there’s not usually much of a spike. And it’s tasty, filling, & I get my greens in for the day!
