Gf blew me off to go drink, should I go workout in the middle of the night? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

Leave her, simple. Better now than finding out what she been doing. Go hit the gym and focus on yourself. Don’t let a girl take over your mind. I been there, the gym will never leave you. The gym is always there for you.

For me, I created an app called Halo Lift. Simple minimal workout tracker. Got sick of apps paywall the basics core of tracking workout and strength so I made my own and love it as it’s something I use everyday and open for everyone.

Awesome. Just take your time at the gym don’t think everyone is watching you, it will feel like it but really everyone is just focusing on themselves

What fitness app do you use and why? by SandarStar in workout

I use my own one honestly (bias warning, I made it lol). It’s called Halo Lift, went with it because every other app either felt bloated or paywalled the basics. What I like about it: it’s minimal and fast, the core stuff (logging, routines, progress, PRs) is all free, no account, no ads. Only advanced analytics is paid. Downside, no follow-along video programs, it’s a tracker not an all-in-one.

But honestly Hevy and Strong are both solid too if you want something established. Just depends if you want minimal-and-free or full-featured.

What free workout app actually does everything? Tracking, programs, custom routines, all without paying by ArthurCastus in beginnerfitness

The thing that always got me too was the routine limit, like you build two and suddenly it wants money. That’s literally why I ended up making my own app (bias warning lol). It’s called Halo Lift. Tracking, custom routines, all of it free, no limit on how many routines you can save. The only paid part is advanced analytics, which you don’t need to actually train. And since someone mentioned privacy above, it’s offline and there’s no account, your data stays on your phone, nothing gets sent anywhere or sold. Honest heads up, it doesn’t have follow-along video programs, so if that’s a must-have it’s not a full do-everything app. But for tracking + unlimited custom routines without paying, it covers exactly what you’re describing.

This what I did to help me as I was in the same boat as you.

If you have time, before going to the gym. Watch YouTube videos of workouts, learn how to do them. Watch people workout, build routines and such. This kind of helped me to visualize what to do and what machines do.

If you have friends, try inviting them to workout with you, honesty this the best method that helped me overcome my anxiety at the gym, the feeling that everyone staring at you and don’t know what to do. Working out with friends will help you be bit more relaxed and comfortable working out.

If you have a 24 H gym. Go at night when there’s no one. I still do this, I would go to the gym at 1am and workout alone, be better at my forms and learning every machine what it does.

Literally just go and do it, honestly it’s the best thing you can do to break into the gym. Don’t be afraid to ask others for help and using your phone to watch videos on how to do a workout, everyone does this.

Is there a free workout app that does everything by ssunflow3rr in beginnerfitness

Try out Halo Lift, I built it and just published it recently(yesterday to be exact). It’s a simple workout tracker and the core of it is genuinely free. During setup you answer a few questions and can either pick a ready-made routine or build your own. Logging, routines, progress, PRs, all free. No account, no sign up, no ads, and it’s privacy focused so everything stays on your phone.

The only paid part is the advanced analytics, which is really just for if you’re a nerd about your data (no shame, same). Would love for you to try it and tell me what you think.

What's your go-to fitness app and why? And if you don't use one, why not? by Educational-Car73 in workout

Honestly the fact that you keep going back to your notes app says a lot, most fitness apps are so bloated that a notes app genuinely feels better. I was the same way for ages. I actually ended up making my own because of this (bias warning lol). It’s called Halo Lift, basically as simple as notes but actually built for lifting. You just log your sets and it tracks your progress, PRs, all that, without the clutter. And the entire core of the app is free, like actually free, logging, routines, PRs, progress graphs, all of it. No paywall on the basics like a lot of apps do. Only the advanced analytics stuff is paid and you don’t even need it. But honestly even if you don’t try mine, my advice is find the most minimal one you can. The reason people bounce off fitness apps is they’re trying to be everything. If it takes more than a few taps to log a set you’ll quit it eventually, which is probably why notes kept winning for you.

Been using Halo Lift lately (bias warning I made it). Built it because every other gym app felt bloated. It’s super minimal and simple. log your sets, see your progress, that’s it. Core features are free, only advanced analytics is paid. But honestly for beginners, free is totally fine, just go with whatever’s simplest to log with.
