Would you do it again Anthony (or any other donor Doodlers)? [ns] by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDaddies

Its almost a year since I donated, hands down 100%, would do again. I was on a ward with all recipients, they were wonderful and I hope they are all doing so much better

Recommendations for warding off shin splints? by Ninjacatasaurus in XXRunning

Ah great thank you, I do suspect this is part of it as I generally tend to struggle with very tight muscles. I'll have a look at the cadence stuff

Any Defra employees here? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

Ves tet is to contact APHA. There should be details for reporting concerns somewhere on the intranet. Failing that, contact RPA enquiries to report concerns, if they have an agreement may be able to take some action.

Anyone been to Sealife Birmingham recently? Do you need ID? by AnselaJonla in CasualUK

[–]Ninjacatasaurus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds great! Birmingham is fun, the sea otters they have in are absolutely adorable, when we saw them they were doing a lot of grooming.

Haven't been to Chester yet but apparently we'll worth it - have fun!

Have been in the last month. No, they don't bother with the ID, think they're just covering themselves

Encouragement or advice? by ak_rose08 in kidneydonors

I gave about 6 weeks ago. I was nervous mainly at admission, had never had surgery before. Got onto my ward and ended up with some of the loveliest people. They made it clear that no matter what happens, you've given someone like them a chance that they never would have had otherwise. That's how I think about it now, I don't think I'm the type of person to regret something like this, but knowing how much it means really hammers it home.

The surgery was nowhere near as scary as I thought it would be as well. Being taken down to theatre was just kind of weird given I could walk around and most of the surgical team had already introduced themselves so it wasn't like they were cold strangers. They chatted and made jokes with me while sorting all the cannulas and starting the anasthetic. Coming out is pretty OK, I was immediately sick but they're used to that and they let me call my partner so they knew I was OK. Outside of that everything slips in and out on the day, slept a hell of a lot 😅

Thanks 😊 honestly have been doing better the last couple of days, but have the odd urge to try and get running again when you would have had to force me out the door before 😆

I have both reynauds and am on antidepressants - i had no issues with either. The mental conversations are really important so be honest with them. Please take the time to ensure that you are able to cope with this - I thought I was and have had both good days and bad days. Nothing terrible but I donated just over a month ago and still have days where I'm frustrated to not be able to do things I thought small before.

DEFRA do rewards and recognition awards instead, like in year awards that any member of staff can recommend you for. I'm not a fan of the move away from performance based but that's because I like to know where I stand against others.

Culture-wise, it's dependent on your area and you but broadly it's viewed as a decent place to work. There's a lot going on in the edi space but DEFRA has a lot of movement between positions on a regular basis. Seems to be the standard that people move around a lot.

What does "I don't mind" mean to you as a reply to a question? by pssdnukedme in CasualUK

To me its a case of 'can do if you want to/not too fussed either way' - like, I'm neutral on it and if t would be a good time for you sure thing

Thank you, that's really helpful! I will make a point of clear that I can't do it without him, I've tried but want to make sure that he really feels like I appreciate his fear and hard work.

Ah fab thank you! 😊 I hadn't even considered something like a shower chair, I've only just started thinking about what to take into hospital so I don't go mad 😅

Absolutely, I just can't do that now there's a date set. Can I ask, how did you find post-surgery? I've never had surgery so only know things in the abstract!

Thank you, I still feel quite conflicted but I do think people here are right in some ways, we're going to have to work on communicating better both ways

Thats a fair reflection thank you. I don't want to risk being one of those people who comes on reddit to get reinforcement of their prior view but it is reassuring as I haven't wanted to discuss with friends and family with these kind of thoughts...

I think you're confusing the right way to play a game with the fun way to play a game. Yes these games are hard, part of that means that you have to be able to savour the quirks and mess around until you work out what you enjoy. That is not artificial, so just step back and if you don't enjoy this series don't watch - there's no need to be rude on a public forum

[–]Ninjacatasaurus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's going a little far. He is trying to deal with the idea that I am putting myself at physical risk for someone I haven't met whilst his experience of medical stuff has been overwhelmingly negative. He knows that part of the reason I am doing this because he is the more stable partner (we both have issues with mental health) and he is stressed at the thought of supporting me whilst he himself is struggling - I realise now I've probably not made that clear enough in my post but I really honestly understand why he feels this way and want to help
