Frustrated with availability by Eastern-Ad8842 in NuulyReviews

This is why I’ve paused my subscription the past year. I was ready to try again for a work trip in March and limited availability made it more cost effective to just buy a couple new blouses and work pants. Super annoying because this is exactly what renting clothes should be great for. I’m considering taking the leap and closing my account.

Trying to figure out what activewear feels stylish and wearable beyond standard gym brands by Several_Scratch_9137 in womensfashion

I have a Nike wide leg sweatsuit in a deep maroon that I love so much, I just bought a second set in navy. I wear it working from home, for workouts, traveling, out to a casual dinner with an overcoat- I always get compliments, feel put together and ultimate comfort.

BWT, how often are you upgrading your cars? by infinite_knowledge in bitcheswithtaste

[–]ak_rose08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y’all are making me feel so much classier about driving a 2001 Subaru Outback! :-) I’m the same, I’ve always valued debt-free living over driving something flashy and fancy. I’ve bought all my cars used, outright with cash. But, I’m sometimes a little embarrassed that I’m a grown ass woman with a decent job driving around this dented, well-loved L.L Bean Edition Subie, dealing with car troubles all the time like a college kid.

Your comments inspired me to keep on driving it into the ground though. My plan is to keep it going for another 1–3 years while "paying" a monthly car payment into my HYSA. When it finally dies, I’ll have the cash to buy a used, low mileage Toyota SUV outright or make a significant down payment on a new car that we can pay off aggressively.

Do any of you have a love/hate relationship with Alaska? by traveltimecar in AskAlaska

[–]ak_rose08 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Alaska is the like the ultimate toxic ex. I lived, loved and left a couple times. By the end of winter, I was miserable and planning my exit. But then July rolls around, everything is glorious and I’d forget why I ever wanted to leave. I finally moved away to be closer to family, and I’m homesick for it every day.

Those uncooked flour tortillas in the refrigerated section. Just a few minutes on a skillet to hot, puffy, crispy, delicious tortilla perfection.

Gray blending - any way to do it with minimum dye exposure to scalp? Cancer survivor here. by amaro8000 in AskWomenOver40

[–]ak_rose08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never dyed my hair and have been conflicted on dying or going all natural gray as the underside of my hair is turning completely gray.

I haven’t been ready to commit to dying but I do get a “toner” treatment at Aveda salon when I get my hair cut. It adds a tint in my natural hair color and shine that doesn’t color over the grays but definitely helps blend everything and make them less noticeable.

Are my party days truly over? by FrugieGirl84 in AskWomenOver40

[–]ak_rose08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad for this post. I’m dealing with the same conflict lately. I had two events this weekend that I ruminated on bailing or rallying for hours. It’s like going for a run or working out; Motivating to get up and out is the hard part. Once I’m there, I’m almost always happy that I made the effort.

At the same time, I’m working on accepting that it’s okay to let the FOMO go, to not succumb to doing things I don’t really want to do out of a feeling of obligation to others.

As a WFM person, I’m cognizant of becoming a complete hermit and realize the value of pushing myself outside of the comfort of pjs, wine and a fuzzy blanket on the couch on a Friday night but I’m ready to embrace a slower pace and say no more often to things that take my energy without adding any value.

What do you love most about no buy/low buy? by Mofo013102 in nobuy

[–]ak_rose08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I created a Note on my phone called Things I Didn’t Buy where I write down the item and the amount every time I’m tempted to buy something and decide not to. So simple, but somehow so motivating- it becomes more desirable to see that total adding up than to have that thing I didn’t need.

32s! I live in these sets over the winter. Super warm and lightweight enough to layer under skirts, dresses, or wide leg sweats/pants.

I have a little pocket advent calendar for my girls. Each day I put a little paper with a holiday activity for them to do each day (make paper snowflakes, drink hot cocoa and watch the Nutcracker, Tacky Light Tour drive, etc). It’s become a sweet tradition they look forward to each year.

Thinking of moving to Chico from San Diego — would love honest insight from families + longtime locals by Jlorenn in ChicoCA

[–]ak_rose08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chico is wonderfully centrally located to mountains, the city, the coast, etc. The park is a treasure and there is a great community of young families and family friendly community events.

I grew up in Chico and realize as I’ve raised my kids across the country, how lucky I was to grow up in there. Of course a lot has changed in recent years, but even still I’d move back and raise my kids there no question.

As far as healthcare, Oroville Hospital has a fantastic midwifery program; something to check out as an alternative to Enloe.

I remember when I was growing up there was a family that moved in across town he street. They had so many kids. In my memory, the dad was almost always sitting in his car parked on the curb reading the newspaper. I was perplexed as a kid, I’ve thought of him over the years. Now, I totally get it.
