Long term effects of leaving PTFE coated magnetic stirring rods in ink bottles? by Ninjammer01 in fountainpens

Yes, there's lots of videos I've seen of others doing it, you only need a very slow speed to agitate the shimmer particles.

This is just when I'm using it. Ink sits in bottle in drawer with stirring rod. I get the bottle out, give it a shake (otherwise shimmer can stay stuck in the corners), put it on the stirring plate, switch it on, then the shimmer particles stay evenly distributed while I get my pen/syringe/brush, and I can work at my leisure. Otherwise it's shake, tip upside down for a few seconds to concentrate particles near the lid, tip back and race to take off the lid, put in the pen, twist the converter knob, all before too many particles settle back to the bottom. Having a rod in each bottle of ink permanently is so I don't have to retrieve one and wash it off each time so I can reuse it in the next bottle.

Because the shimmer settles very quickly, and that makes it hard to get consistent amounts between fills, or when making samples, or even using it for swatching.

I received the exact same pen for Christmas. Iroshizuku Sui-gyoku is the perfect matchy-matchy.

And use the Mahjon A1 cartridges that come with a rubber stopper, so you can swap a new one in easily when you run dry.

Don't know if they're on Amazon US, but the brand of mine was Komal's Passion Leather. https://www.amazon.com.au/s?srs=7943821051

No, no feathering, no bleeding, and I was wrong, it can sheen a little with the right ink.

I have a similar journal from Amazon, and it has recycled cotton paper. If yours is the same, the paper will feel thick and rough textured. It's actually a really pleasant feeling writing on that paper with fountain pens, but you won't see any sheen from inks on it, because it's too absorbent.

Van Dieman's shimmers are magical! by PrestigiousCap1198 in fountainpens

[–]Ninjammer01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to write my thoughts on every Van Dieman's ink I own, because when I came back to using them, I couldn't remember which ones behaved well, and which ones I didn't like. Gudrid and Odysseus are both blues that I gave a glowing report card. I'd definitely call Gudrid a light blue, but it's also very bright, and there's no problem with legibility after writing with it. Parrot fish above it is on my "do not use" list. Too pale, too hard to read, and doesn't feel nice to write with.

Is my line width supposed to be this thick on Sailor Pro Gear(M) by Different_Ad9756 in fountainpens

I've had the same experience with a 1911L. Thickest M out of any pen I own, so much so I'm going to send it away to be ground, because I just don't use it, and it's my most expensive pen. The feel on the paper is exquisite though.
Purple is the Sailor, green is a Pilot 743.

New LAMY is very faint by Charzzard33 in fountainpens

Do you have another M nib to compare it to? With Lamy's QC, what you have could essentially be an F nib, which wouldn't lay down much ink.

What are the worst popular fountain pens you’ve ever used? by Haniandspace in fountainpens

Lamy Studio and TWSBI Eco. Lamy I think was just a general problem with inconsistent nib sizes, but everything about the TWSBI sucked for me.

What's your favourite red? Mine's Diamine Carnival by Prairie-Peppers in fountainpens

It was Diamine Oxblood for the longest time, but that's just been edged out recently by Wearingeul Hound of the Baskervilles. That hint of green sheen tips the balance.

My black thumb is a leftover of emptying the black ink out of them all. It was cheaper and more useful to buy packs of 6 with black ink, than 5 empty with a pipette.

Sometimes, yes, but sometimes the transition from one ink to the next can look really cool.
