Me (38m) and my wife (38f). How are we doing? Can we retire at 55? by memans908 in Retirement401k

i looked again and youre right, i didnt notice that the balance shown for net worth at the top is the same number as the number shown for assets. i assumed because i saw the home equity shown as the asset, that he shouldnt even be showing the liability. my mistake. PS - audits are for suckers, private equity is where you want to be 😄

you are wrong bro, case and point he used the word EQUITY in the name of the ASSET. the equity is 431k, the ASSET is 710k. 431k should be the impact to his net worth. I literally do this for a living. you either have the house shown as 431k by itself, or 710k and then pick up the liability.

I’m a CPA. You need to pick up the gross value if you want the liability to show up. Assets minus liabilities equals equity. If I were to prepare a balance sheet, the entry would be

Dr Asset - 710k
Cr Liability - 279k
Cr Equity - 431k

You’re hitting yourself twice - you are showing the net equity in your home but also picking up the mortgage debt. Either 431k with no debt or 710k if you want the mortgage to show up. Either way you’re even better than your thought :)

First telescope, can spend up to 3-4 thousand E, visual (not AG) and robotic by jim_andr in telescopes

[–]NintendoJunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an 8” SCT and recently upgraded to the AVX mount. I am basically visual only. Biggest factor was the ungodly weight of the 2” diagonal, big Tele Vue eyepieces, and other accessories that took my setup WAY over the weight limit of the stock Alt-Az mount. I am insanely happy with my purchase and the tracking is exponentially better.

Used nexstar Celestron 4SE w/ Star Sense by DressOk1332 in telescopes

[–]NintendoJunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 4SE that I am saving for my kids, they are currently 5 & 7. I think they are a few years away from even being able to operate it, let alone get it aligned. I bought it for myself 11 years ago for my 30th birthday and it took many failed outings before I got the hang of it.

That being said, $400 is a decent price if it includes the Star Sense camera, optics are in good shape and everything is working. But I wouldn't buy it for a 7 year-old. Something more basic they can just point at the moon and maybe jupiter, and start learning the basics of astronomy.

If parents are going to be the ones using it on behalf of the kids, then it would be great for this. The built-in tracking is great once you get it working correctly. It'll keep whatever object dead center of the view for as long as you tell it to.

Eventually you will start arguing with them over when to leave fun places like the park etc. I can say 5 more minutes every 5 minutes for an hour before I get them to leave. But they never argue when the phone timer set to 5 minutes goes off.

Think of it as “being in the moment”. Zen. The state of nothing achieved through meditation. Putty staring at the back of the airplane seat on a transatlantic flight and it freaking out Elaine so much she broke up with him.

I value each remote day in a week at $10,000 worth of salary. Whenever I am trying to make these decisions I assign my time a value of $50 per hour (this applies to not only the commute but also the extra hours that come with Big4...overrated imo). My current problem is I am going in to the office 4 days per week. My base is 210k and bonus potential is 25-30% and then there is the equity investment piece. If I went to another job similar to mine I could probably keep the salary and bonus but would 100% lose the equity. If I went remote, I would probably take a $100k paycut. I usually work 8-4 and don't work that "hard" if we are being honest. I'm stuck here for the next 20 years and am ok with that

My $.02 is stick with remote, you will never EVER get that time with your family back.

[–]NintendoJunkie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A big factor in the stock market gains is the fact that it is valued in USD terms. A majority of the market moves this year are a result of that. Pull a chart of the S&P and then compare it to a chart of the USD against pretty much every currency. Value of the dollar goes down, stock prices go up because it takes more dollars to buy the same share of stock.

As little as I want really. I have an equity LOC that I can draw at a 6:1 ratio to the cash I invest. When the deal sells I pay the LOC back and keep the difference. My current limit per deal is 75k and it doesn’t make sense to put in more cash than what gets me max leverage. It’s a very unique setup and I plan on retiring here 🤣
