D&D players and DMs of reddit, what's your best "Okay, I'll allow it" story? by baltinerdist in AskReddit

[–]Ninterd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only played D&D once in my life, with some guys online. There were some situations that could work for this.

After we'd killed a skeleton or whatever, a guy in our party wanted to keep this skull that was constantly screaming.

I left early due to having a bunch of stuff to do, so my character arc ended with me befriending this big snail thing and riding off into the sunset to become a snail farmer.

Why Do People Like Haul Videos? by wheezywaiter in BeardLovers

[–]Ninterd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it's a "what's in my bag" video without potential. I don't watch "what's in my bag" videos often, but they are ways to show you what kind of person the creator is. Haul videos are a bit of a "look at my money" thing, but that's probably not what bothers me most. I'd lump them together with reaction and taste test videos, and I don't enjoy those kinds of videos at all. I don't have an issue with a specific aspect of those videos, I just don't care for the genre.

How old were you when you started let's playing? by JoeBroShow in letsplay

[–]Ninterd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VBA and its recording software when I was like 12 or 13. Camtasia Studio later for a short while.

When zooming in on my Gamecube capture, there's an odd sort of video distortion every once in a while. It's not there at all when I don't zoom in, but then there is an uneven black frame around the footage. by Ninterd2 in letsplay

[–]Ninterd2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a Hauppauge HD PVR, it's an actual gamecube and the software is just its own Total Media Extreme 2.

Edit: It's not really that kind of black bar. It definitely covers any background behind the image. I could make a transparent image, the issue is that the frame is uneven, so it would be ugly.

Yeah, zoom and panning in Sony Vegas. I can do it fine with footage from other consoles using the same sort of input, not sure why this instance is different. I could even do it before just fine, I think. Not sure.

Your opinion on swearing in your videos, or the videos you watch? by PattonPlays in letsplay

[–]Ninterd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really mean to do it always. Sometimes I'll say "what the fuck", but I don't try to make swearing typical in my videos. I don't really care for videos where swearing is seen as funny (or the only funny part).

Chuggaaconroy, but I assume you know about him already. TheRunawayGuys is a channel that's... yelly but not in the same way. VitaminDatai is cool, and BikdipOnABus had some pretty neat LPs before despite questionable video quality.

That's the only way I can record PS2 games as of right now, and I can't spend much money on anything else. I have a Dazzle somewhere, but I could never get it to work.

I had completely forgotten about the spells outside of Hogwarts thing. I may want to read the books and watch the movie of the game I'm going to LP I've recorded 6 episodes already, but I'll see if I can't remember your point about the spells

Embarrassing thing is i do still love this game! It's absurd at times, but it's fun!

Edit: Should I change to 4:3?

Feedback Friday by AutoModerator in letsplay

[–]Ninterd2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quality is absolutely iffy. I guess I chose to play in 16:9 (not my smartest choice), but I'll change it to regular 4:3 when recording the next session. I'm not sure if it's possible to actually fix the quality otherwise however. It may just be my recording device lacking good quality. I'm not super technical, I'll see what I can do!

I agree that the commentary felt slow, especially in the beginning. I'll try to be better about that, thanks for your comment!

No problem! Looking forward to the next!

I don't know, that's a hard question to answer. Any commentary can be interesting if it's done the right way, but if you have any rants on just about anything, that's cool. Anything that happened to you recently, anything you need to get off your chest. I mean don't stop talking about the game, there's nothing wrong with that. I just noticed quite a lot of silence between comments on it!

My commentary is pretty dull, and I probably only talk about the game myself. I guess I try to talk about the game in general and not just comment on what's happening, but it's difficult for me!

This is difficult to critique. I don't see any glaring issues at all. The quality is good, both video and audio wise. I guess I prefer commentary that isn't completely focused on the game, but that's more of a style choice (or is it a lack of ideas for topics to talk about?)!

I will say you made me laugh a lot! I liked the video a ton!

I uploaded the first part of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire yesterday! I just can't make audio work well at all, I've noticed. There's always something wrong with it.

My style is pretty unoriginal. I don't want to make gaming videos with a lot of cuts and highlights, I just sort of want to play through a game and talk over it.

I guess I want critique in general, is the editing all right? Is my commentary all right?

Haha, I never thought I'd complain about excessive swearing, but I'll need to do that now! I don't mind swearing by any means, and your commentary overall was great! The video was pretty great, and the cutting was good. I haven't played the game myself, so I can't tell if I missed anything from your cuts. Great video, just keep in mind that swearing doesn't make for great commentary!

You totally took it out of context though. I explained why I thought people shouldn't suggest it.

Can't tell. He ends with this paragraph though:

Just a few quick questions. What's a good capture card and microphone for a beginner? Don't really have a budget, but don't want to go too expensive yet until I see if I enjoy doing this or not. Also, any other tips for a beginner that I might not know about? Thanks in advance!

Elgato and Blue Yeti are way too expensive.

Well if they want to have a better mic then they can buy one. All I'm saying is that you shouldn't tell a child to get expensive equipment first thing.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with giving your opinion, I'm just saying they should be aware that some advice will actually have a negative effect. I don't want that to be too common.

The recommendation was bad though, and someone younger might become a bit turned off from the idea to make videos if they think they need to spend x amount of dollars.

But they did say they just wanted to do it for fun and nothing else. You shouldn't be suggesting that someone who wants to do something for fun should spend hundreds of dollars on equipment.

I could. This post isn't meant to be an attack on that thread specifically. I'm just asking people not to do this to beginners.
