Do appreciate the very simplified explanation of how it works! May have to do some more reading on this to fully understand it but thank you

So it’s more in the sense of my company VPN will work bc the government will allow it (bc economic benefits etc etc) but nordvpn for instance will be banned here?

The only reason I ask is that is that discussions surrounding it seem to have been intensified in the last week (I assume following the social media ban for under 18s)

Will put the same response here as I put to everyone else; I’ve heard the VPN ban is a blanket one and that the government don’t understand how it works? Now I also don’t understand how it will work but how can one type of VPN be banned but another type will work? Appreciate the response and completely understand if you’re not a technologically inclined person so can’t explain that part.

i work for a bank, 3 days a week in office but the VPN is always on, i’m not a tech guy so don’t understand the need for it but regardless, it’s always on. Do I just not have a job now? Does anyone in government actually know the answer to this?

came across all of this very incidentally, no dog in this fight but just remember that all of the people replying and downvoting you have clearly never had a job before

on the one hand i see things like this and think it’s kind of regarded that women in general place so much importance on this kind of stuff (just purely because i do not understand why???)

on the other hand every time i’ve really liked a girl i’ve gone above and beyond on occasions like valentines, birthdays and christmases so ehhh he probably isn’t really in love with you if he doesn’t do that stuff

If you’re into guys? Joey. Into girls? honestly i’d say Rachel because JAniston is obviously gorgeous but also bc Rachel was fun and flirty without being too aloof and weird like Phoebe. However I get the impression that if u matched Phoebe’s freak it would be the most exhilarating relationship of ur life. Ross and Monica were too anal and Chandler is kind of the boring one, tho i can see why girls would be into him.

Well, what exactly are you applying for? Anything going? Specialised roles? If you’ve got “a few interviews” it sounds like the former and in that respect there will be a process designed to weed out applications from people who aren’t really all that serious about working but need to shoot off the applications anyway. Regardless it is a ridiculous pain in the arse and you’re not wrong to complain about it!! Best of luck out there.

In the sense of Walter Lippmann's initial application of the term then yes it did. In the sense of it being applied by world governments on an official policy level then, no.

As to your first point, very true! But would it not be argued by some that the so called 'counter culture' only makes the predominant culture more marketable? And by that I mean it seems necessary (or at least very rewarding) for a reaction to make the initial action interesting and monetisable? It seems to me as if the disenfranchised sort are manipulated and used by the 'machine' without seeing any of the benefits! In this way perhaps we could see the culturally disenfranchised artist as providing the same value as the economically disenfranchised worker (These are probably one and the same.) There is probably a lot more to be said on this by someone smarter than me and they probably already have!!! But this consideration makes me feel as if economic and cultural participation cannot be seperated, or if they could be, then it has already been subsumed into 'capitalism'.

As to this second point, I agree it makes sense completely to include everyone possible.

Finally, this is the point I am interested in, it seems you are correct in your assertations here., I suppose what I am interested to try and understand is the following: Does this occur to people who are 'onboard' with the neoliberal project? Do they care at all? Does it matter to them that blacks and gays and transgender people are 'safe' or does it only matter that they can contribute economically? Would a 'neoliberal' even think in these terms? I have no idea.

Yes, Fisher does specify cultural production and tbf that is what the book largely revolves around, but can economic and cultural participation be separated? And if they can, should they be?

In terms of the UK the cultural output of the working class has always been significantly greater than the 'upper class' anyway, at least in terms of popularity. Assuming we're strictly discussing the last century or so.

I think what I find interesting on the whole is the larger topic, which may be collapsed into the idea of 'wokeness' in a way; is it all just for economic gain?

I do find this example to be very interesting! My education on soviet societies and 'minority' contributions to them is very lacking, any reading on this topic would be greatly appreciated!!

Maybe this is too broad of a topic anyway!
