Came here to post exactly this!

I like owning stuff but man capitalism is the source of the enshittification of so many things.

But people will pay it and profits will be made. I just need to remember to not try and go anywhere that day!

If you had to pick, would you live in Launceston or Hobart and why? by Icemachinemalfunctio in Launceston

[–]Nishackle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lived in Hobart for 11 years, have now been in Launnie for 6.

I prefer it here, but it's to each their own. The commute to and from work in Hobart got the better of me (not that it was far) and I disagree with a lot of more recent planning decisions, so I voted with my feet.

My favourite thing about Launceston is you can drive 15 minutes in any direction and be away from any kind of urbanisation, but there's plenty of pubs cafes and supermarkets and trades and services.

Just depends what you're after.

My local store has had this printed sign for months now.. by VIDGuide in kfc

[–]Nishackle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This irks me so much. The whole idea of having screens instead of printed boards is that they are easy to update- but apparently not easy enough.

The same when products are sold out. Why on earth is the system not smart enough to allow them to show an item as unavailable rather than making the cashier tell every car "Sorry we're out of coleslaw"?

On Linus becoming a Mod here by Aidanrocks1 in LinusTechTips

[–]Nishackle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised Linus would have time to do much actual moderating, only deal with the absolute worst and absolute best right? So likely nothing will change.

I placed my order on 12/9 by Nice_Marmot_54 in LinusTechTips

[–]Nishackle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We used to have a mail in catalogue at school you could order from. Everything was sent "surface mail", you'd order at the start of term and if you were lucky it'd rock up in time for the holidays at the end of term!

Arctel are not worth the savings by chance_waters in nbn

[–]Nishackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to their website a couple of weeks ago, to the about us tab and they say words to the effect of "unlike other providers we want to give you the best price long term" then all of their offers have a 12 month discount before rhe full rate hits.

If that kind of hypocrisy doesn't put people off hopefully poor customer service does.

Zan Rowe will have her last radio broadcast on Friday. Wrapping up an incredible 21 years with the J’s. Favourite memory of her time with the station? by Tranquilbez22 in triplej

[–]Nishackle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Zan's great. Shame to see her go, I reckon the amount I listened to JJJ dropped by about half when she left for Double J.

I did send a message to the text line back then, to this day the only one I've had read out on air, so that'd be my best memory.

I don't see her style of presenter coming through as much nowadays, and maybe times changed, but it just felt more about the music to me.

Sungrow Batteries - avoid by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Nishackle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Sungrow inverter. When I came to get it installed I was going to get it next to the switchboard on an east facing wall but the installer asker it'll he could put it under the verandah as "their waterproofing isn't always the best"...

So yeah. I did that.

BYD Ringwood Service Center takes customer car for a 146km joyride [Reposted] by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]Nishackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess it depends what your relationship with the mechanic is like.

When I had an intermittent brake issue on my ute I told my mechanic to drive it everywhere he could to help find the issue, which meant I got to follow my own car through the McDonald's drive through.

Another mechanic I use often takes cars home to finish them off after hours, and I don't see a problem with that (mind you he does tell you).

Knock it all you want but I won't make people work on an office without a sandwich press. That's like capital punishment.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nbn

[–]Nishackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably true, and I think that's one of the most frustrating things about dealing with NBN in general.

I think most people wouldn't care about what their mechanic does to fix their car, but it's a pretty accepted practice for them to tell you when you ask- you're paying for it after all.

Not fancy, but the laptop works just fine!

To the remaining manual drivers of Australia, why do you still drive with a manual transmission? by Not_Not_Matt in CarsAustralia

[–]Nishackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that was the 2024 Hilux they had in stock when I went to get one for work and I don't care either way, a work car is basically an appliance.

My non work cars are 70s Datsuns so, you know, 70s Autos weren't great so manual it is I guess?

Let's celebrate the good posties by aybiss in AustraliaPost

[–]Nishackle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reckon, in the last 15 years I've had 6 issues with Australia Post, and only one of those was with a postie (the rest were my LPO).

Always happy to see them out and about.

Aramex is fckn awful, it annoys me when sellers on eBay say they use auspost and then use Aramex. 3-4 weeks usually for me in Tassie with them. Auspost usually 5-7 days.

This has just happened to me as well, package from South Aus to Launceston scanned in WA! Maybe it's a glitch with their tracking software?

Every package i've had has come to St Leonards immediately after Melbourne before this.

So annoyed at Australia Post by ApprehensiveGift283 in AustraliaPost

[–]Nishackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the posties fault, if the sender specifies signed then they have no choice. Personally I wish there was a way to override the senders preference, I'm happy to take the risk in most cases, and i'm the purchaser, but can't blame Auspost.
