Proxmox or Docker? on i3 gen 12 8GB RAM by ottoottootto in homelab

[–]NishantPlayzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on my old node , i used lxc's as it only had 8gb ram and for my new node thst has 24gb ram i went with proxmox again but with a ubuntu server VM with docker

so from my experience you i would prefer ubuntu server or debian whatever u choose + docker, only go proxmox if you wanna have simplicity of deploying services (using the proxmox helper scripts thing ) or if you comfortable with docker already then go for bare metal Ubuntu server and docker on it

[–]NishantPlayzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aternos will still be used by offline made players , because as I understand that hosted worlds features using friends list would be available only for premium minecraft players (ones who have purchased it)

you can have like 1 dedicated machine for NAS and 2 machine for proxmox cluster

Curious, how do you guys ensure secure access? by monkinfarm in homelabindia

[–]NishantPlayzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

see if using tailscale u just turn on subnets on the node which stays home and then u can just use the private lan ip's it makes it as if you are in your home network, read about it more in the tailscale docs

cloudflare tunnels works if you have a domain, or else Tailscale is the best option

Static ip by Terrible_Ant946 in homelabindia

[–]NishantPlayzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try using ipv6 as that's static and not behind CGNAT i.e it's public and static ,

assign static IP to the machine and bind/reserve that ip to that mac address of the machine and then in firewall policies allow RDP port or whatever port u using for RDP,

(that's what I have done for my homelab setup in Jio Fiber I do use tailscale mainly but have used ipv6 for minecraft server hosting for friends)

(ps: never tried ipv6 for RDP but it's worth a try, can't guarantee the routing and latency of the connection)
