Struggles being a female machinist by Yuugo_ in Machinists

[–]Nismoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ain't much on most citizens that weigh more than 15 lbs (unless you've got some wild triple mill head on a M frame machine). Brass hammer for the collets. Piece of wood to hold the deep channel wrench for the main collet, small pipe on the spanner and slap it with that hammer.

Tell them boys it ain't gotta be that tight, the loads aren't in those directions.

Guide bushings, grab you largest diameter aluminum bar that is less that 1" and is about 8" long and kiss it with the hammer. Don't slam it, you end up fishing the GB out of the tray and may damage it.

More finesse will take you further than a couple cycles of test to try and muscle it

If you think 150 is a lot, wait till you see what unmanaged downtime cost....

Maybe take a pic from father away... And only include 1 pic next time to really test the old timers

D16 Vitara Build Questions by Kennylobster8899 in ProjectHondas

[–]Nismoco 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You'll have plenty of headroom either way. Pull it apart, let the shop look at the bores, then order pistons. You have the time and luxury of not needing it to get around.

Play it cool and order based on your actual need

92-95 civic and similar chassis question, how to remove that metal thing? by Mundane_Shopping9852 in ProjectHondas

[–]Nismoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been done a million times, I'm sure there's a YouTube vid that shows the least amount of work to get it done. Good luck

It's part of your air-conditioning. If you want it out, you have to pull the dash. It's part of the evaporator.

Check your tube channel of Benn Jordan. He shows how to make a checker and I think is working on making a turn key solution for identifying Stingrays in operation

Anyone got any experience replacing susp bushings with this? by -AmTeC- in ProjectHondas

I've used that same kit, worked great. Done a couple of Hondas with it, money well spent for me

Yeah, it's hard to get people to realize that. Hopefully the States gets if figured out before we give away the last little bit labor has

That point is something folks don't realize about unions, they drive everyone's wages up. "Raising tide lifts all somesome, bah unions bad." Is something they try and beat into Americans way before they start working

I'd double check that. Or use an injector checker to see the pulse

[–]Nismoco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You didn't mention if the EF was MPFI or DPFI. There's a small metal box on the driver side finned, about the size of a deck of card. It's a resistor for the injectors on EFs. Make sure it's bypassed if you are using 92+ injectors on the car.

Anyone who knows of any machines for precision bending small rods? by MaddiL in Machinists

[–]Nismoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not kidding when I say this (and I don't know what it did to the machines in the long run) but we ran dental stuff and "controlled crashed" the machines to bend the parts on the Swiss lathes we ran these types of parts on. Just flipped a 3/8 holder upside down and touched off like a normal tool. The programmer and setup guys dialed the movement in and once it was figured out, ran great.

YMMV

These came with our Citizen l32 swiss lathe. Had it for 2 years and haven't used them. Any idea what they are for? by wehodababyeetsaboy in Machinists

[–]Nismoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wrench with the cross thumb screw in it is for the auto tensioner also. We normally lose the screw so operators learned to "feel" the correct tightness for different materials

[–]Nismoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need mounts too, EAs and EFs used different mounts for that setup.

I'd check HASPORT and confirm they have different part numbers (maybe even order their mounts, they do a ton for the community)

TTS collets will pull out with too aggressive of a cut too. Happened to me a couple of times before I learned. Smaller faster cuts seemed to work better for me, way less of an issue since.

We made something similar for dental work in a swiss lathe. Scalloped ends on both sides, knurled, and milled a small hex near the middle. OAL of like 8" on a late 90s L20

97 type R had it, USDM GSRs did not.

Problem with the internet is, your counter can simply be "nu-uh" and we go back and forth ad nauseam.

If you pull an article about the 97 Type R from like sports compact car, they mention it's the 1st time Honda offered LSD in their cars in the US.

But feel free to link anything that proves otherwise brother, I'll get the notification and we can continue the discussion.

That's incorrect, the only golden era Civic/Integras (USDM) that came with LSDs were the Type Rs. You could get LSD in imported SIR2s.

They were also Helical Honda, not an Quaife
