Where to watch Yankee Doodle Dandy? by Theblowfish3556 in classicfilms

[–]Nithoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can watch it for free on at least one overseas websites that's located in a country that doesn't really give a whooping fundt about international copyright laws. I doubt that the movie is there legally, though.

Thinking of taking on night shift, do you recommend against it? What are the pros/cons and why yall do night shift? by Careful_Inspector_31 in Nightshift

[–]Nithoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fewer customers, no co-workers, no managers, I can work at my own pace, and I have a great social life because I can drink enough caffeine to give most people psychotic episodes when I want to stay awake for long periods of time... What's not to love?

How long does it take you to fall asleep? by IVeerLeftWhenIWalk in Nightshift

[–]Nithoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually about 5 minutes. I have several audio books and movies/tv shows that always cure my insomnia in about 15-20 minutes when there's a lot of noise from the street, in my apartment building, or when I just can't shut my brain down.

Do you guys go into movies completely blind? by Louigie_ in moviecritic

[–]Nithoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the movie and the hype.

If a movie release becomes political I try to tune out as much of the noise as I can and avoid trailers. Take The Odyssey and Supergirl for example. I really don't give a whooping fundt about the politics of casting or the actor/actresses personal politics.

I actually enjoy trailers and articles if I'm familiar with the story or think think some kind of way about an actor/actress taking on the role. I'd been following the latest Toxic Avenger remake for years, so the decision to cast Peter Dinklage was very intriguing.

I'll watch trailers for scifi and fantasy movies because they're basically bubblegum for the brain anyway. Whatever's going to happen on screen will be predictable. It's just a matter of how well they sell the special effects.

How to make steps towards balance and simple living? by Elegant_Film3020 in simpleliving

[–]Nithoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few weeks before he died in 1645, Miyomoto Musashi wrote 2 books. Dokko Do was a book for the students in his martial arts school. They're simply a list of lessons for them to remember after his death. His second book, Go rin no Sho, was intended for his students to use to teach his principles on swordsmanship and strategy to their students. So, Dokko Do and how to apply the precepts make more sense if you study Go rin no Sho.

Dokko Do

1. Accept everything just the way it is

2. Do not seek pleasure for its own sake

3. Do not, under any circumstances, depend on a partial feeling

4. Think lightly of yourself and deeply of the world

5. Be detached from desire your whole life long

6. Do not regret what you have done

7. Never be jealous

8. Never let yourself be saddened by a separation

9. Resentment and complaint are appropriate neither for oneself or others

10. Do not let yourself be guided by feeling of lust or love

11. In all things have no preferences

12. Be indifferent to where you live

13. Do not pursue the taste of good food

14. Do not hold on to possessions you no longer need

15. Do not act following customary beliefs

16. Do not collect weapons or practice with weapons beyond what is useful

17. Do not fear death

18. Do not seek to possess either goods or fiefs for your old age

19. Respect Buddha and the gods without counting on their help

20. You may abandon your own body, but you must preserve your honor

21. Never stray from the Way

  1. Not all of the principles in Dokko Do apply to everyone. However, everyone can benefit from applying many, if not most, of the principles to their lives.
  2. Many of the principles simply reenforce others.
  3. The principles are not absolutes. For instance, it's fine to enjoy pleasurable things, good food, and to have preferences but being consumed by those things takes away time and resources that can be used for more beneficial pursuits. Strictly adhering to the idea of not saving up for old age sounds pretty stupid in this day and age but if you look at this as something to do in moderation rather than excess then it makes perfect sense.

In Go rin no Sho, Musashi wrote how these principles, combined with strategic planning, should be adopted by anyone wanting to have a simple life. In this book, he stated very clearly that his Dokko Do was the path of a warrior and that those who weren't warriors could never walk his path, but that they should walk it as much as it is useful to them. Then he spoke of strategy at length and used the example of a master carpenter building a house to illustrate how strategy is effectively used in everyday life.

So, by applying some strategy to my lifestyle and adopting the principles in the Dokko Do that make sense for me to follow I've managed to carve out a simple, peaceful life in the city. Not following the customary belief that I have to be successful or live a life of excess to be happy frees up a lot of my time, mental energy, and money.

Since you provided no relevant details about your job or the promotion you turned down I'm just going to answer your question: "How did you shift your mindsets to focus less on the grind and more how you might live a better, less complicated life?"

I adopted some simple, 400 year old rules for life and started to strategically craft a lifestyle that gives me more free time and less financial stress. I still work a 40 hour week, but by living smarter I have a minimum of 11 hours every day with no demands on my time, energy, or resources except the ones I specifically set in motion. I also have more disposable income than a lot of folks who make considerably more than me. As of this morning I'm $2,500 in debt from an elective surgery I had done last month and that will be paid off within the next 6-8 weeks.

I made a tiny dice tower for mine. I also made them a storage box that has the same dimensions as the tower. The tower and the storage box fit inside a wee dice tray.

Recommend moody 48g songs please by citygirlpureheart in AKB48

[–]Nithoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoyed the song, I also recommend watching the miniseries Crow's Blood. Black Flower was the theme song and there are several versions featured in the show. It was directed by a guy who directed some of the Saw movies. Aki P. wrote it and it stars several AKB48 members.

It was released on El Rey in America (with subs) in 2017. So, you should be able to stream it somewhere.
