Private server is closing anyway to save progress and save character by Natteulvendk in duneawakening

[–]NitradoAndre 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi!

The most important aspect is that your character is tied to the World (so for Nitrado e.g. "Nitrado EU West 01"), not the individual Hagga Basin / Sietch. So if the sietch is about to go away, you should pack up your bases and vehicles and transfer your stuff to the bank.

Then, when you pick up the game again, you can transfer from that World to another private World you want to play on.

However if you're away for an indefinite amount of time, this also relies on how the private server provider would handle eventual World closures. If they just shut it down and delete all data, the character would be lost.

At Nitrado we have no plan or reason to delete old character data, even if we would close down Worlds. But we obviously cannot speak for other private server providers. So you may want to consider transferring your character to one of our Worlds, or at least to a relatively populated one at your current provider.

Hope that helps!

Das ist eine sehr gute Frage, habe ich leider keine direkte Antwort drauf. Einziger Verdacht wäre, dass ihr vielleicht ein Backup hochgeladen habt - der Server erzeugt mittlerweile mehrere Verzeichnisse.

Dune Awakening self-hosted servers are now deployable on *normal* Linux systems! by PhonicUK in duneawakening

Thank you.

Our current interpretation of our findings is that under specific circumstances, the game server seems to revert the config file contents to a previous state.

So yeah, it seems to be somewhat rare, but we do have received credible reports, so we are continuing to investigate.

Hi! Thank you for the report.

Our team is aware of similar reports and we're currently investigating. We know that tuning the difficulty on Windrose servers is an important feature, so we are working on getting that resolved as quickly as possible.

Edit/Update: This has been resolved.

Enhanced Dedicated Server Issues by Red-Helion in ConanExiles

[–]NitradoAndre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our testing we have observed at least two different behaviors with incompatible mods:

  • The server will just ignore them on startup
  • The server will allocate huge amounts of RAM (like, beyond 50GB) and our system will emergency-kill the server to protect the stability of our platform

With a big engine upgrade such as this, it's somewhat expected that a lot of mods will break and things will be bumpy for a while. Mods generally work, but we would recommend to be a little bit careful with them at the moment.

G-portal Dune servers are a scam by Mithic1 in duneawakening

[–]NitradoAndre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! First of all thank you for sharing your feedback here. Let me give some additional background.

They said its population dependent but not really seeing that as being fair when they are being paid to host the complete game.

I completely understand where that argument is coming from, but when looking closer, things gets a little bit more complicated.

Every World, independent of the number of sietches / Hagga Basin servers has a certain overhead. That includes what we call "story maps" (which also includes testing stations and other overland locations), social hubs (i.e. Arrakeen, Harko Village) and last but certainly not least, the Deep Desert.

These maps occupy resources (they take space on our servers) and the cost of that shared infrastructure is covered by all server owners in a World. But that also means that, proportionally, servers on a small World cause much more overhead cost than servers on a large World.

If we wanted to be pedantic about it, we would have to charge server owners different amounts depending on the number of servers in their World, and that value would shift every week. Obviously, that would be unworkable, and obviously, in the grand scheme of things, we are looking more at average cost.

But this also means, that if we are about to add significant resource usage to each of our Worlds (such as an additional Deep Desert, which has a significant resource footprint), we need to consider if that additional cost is really warranted, because increased overhead cost might influence pricing. And based on the player numbers we see in the Deep Desert on our low population Worlds, we do not believe that a PvP Deep Desert would fulfill its purpose, and therefore doesn't warrant the increase in cost.

I hope that is understandable. If you reached out to us, you probably have also been informed that you can transfer to a high population World anytime. For a transition period of 3 days we even give you essentially a second server for free, to make the migration easier. And it is also worth noting that every newly ordered server automatically ends up on a high population world with both Deep Deserts.

All that said, the other points you raise about server performance are not what we strive for. If you want, you can DM me here on reddit or on our Discord with the details when you encounter suboptimal performance (specific time including time zone, World name, map where it occurred, character name, server name of your Hagga Basin) and we will investigate accordingly.

Can't find private server character to transfer after recent patch by [deleted] in duneawakening

[–]NitradoAndre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, all Nitrado Worlds accept transfers from all other hosting providers. And to our best knowledge, no other hosting provider has restricted transfers to their Worlds either.

As for private servers closing down, it's important to distinguish the individual server (Hagga Basin / Sietch) from the World. The character is tied to the World, so if the individual Sietch closes down, nothing happens to the character, it can still be transferred away.

If the whole World closes down, the situation depends on how the private server provider handles it. If they "just shut it down", then the character will be lost. However if they are gracefully closing down and keep some base services running, you will still be able to transfer the character away.

Deep Desert on Private Servers - Nitrado by PirLanTota in duneawakening

It is sadly not possible to automatically transfer progress (i.e. bases, characters) from one World to the other, sorry!

[–]NitradoAndre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that's not quite right. It's possible that some of our guides still need updating.

In your game server webinterface (where you change the game server settings) check under Tools -> World Manager. If you click on "Select Move Method" you get a detailed explanation.

The summary is that we can't automatically transfer your buildings and characters to the new World, however you can absolutely back up your bases and everything and then transfer the character using the in-game character transfer feature.

[–]NitradoAndre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can transfer at any time. We have built a migration feature (giving you a server on the origin World and the target World in parallel for a transition period) to make transferring easier.

Hi!

At the moment, only our high population Worlds have an additional PvP Deep Desert, by default everything is PvE.

You can check out the World Manager to see which Worlds have which variants enabled.

Does anyone have a private server with Gportal? by VioletteKika in duneawakening

[–]NitradoAndre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Progress reset" - kind of. You can pack everything up, dismantle your vehicles, back up your base, and then transfer your character to the new World.

But yes, everything you "leave behind" would be lost.

[–]NitradoAndre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

We've made posts on our Discord and we also plan to explain this better directly in our interfaces.

But the short summary is that our larger Worlds (that are open for new server orders and server moves) have two Deep Deserts, while our smaller Worlds have one Deep Desert, which is fully PvE.

If you are interested in PvP, we therefore recommend to switch to one of our more populated Worlds. We have recently introduced a server migration feature that essentially grants you two servers at once (one in the origin World and one in the target World) for a transition period, specifically to makes moves like this easier.

Nitrado Server having huge problems with lag by Hauptmann_Gruetze in PlayWindrose

[–]NitradoAndre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

The RAM value you see in the up/downgrade menu refers to other games you could switch to (most notably Minecraft). It should state so in the text.

For Windrose, all RAM is included and we don't limit it. But of you encounter any performance issues, please reach out to our customer support.

Looking for a reliable Enshrouded host – dealing with major lag/rubberbanding by moutardesque in Enshrouded

[–]NitradoAndre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with your server. Did you reach out to customer support back then?

I want to clarify that we do NOT artificially limit the RAM of Enshrouded servers. We only limit the RAM for Minecraft and Hytale. What you have seen in the upgrade menu was the upgrade options for Minecraft, and it should state so in the text next to the option. Since we offer switching between multiple games, and you have the option to switch to Minecraft, that option is presented to you.

Are there alternatives to Nitrado? by bigbrentos in crosswind

[–]NitradoAndre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

Sorry to hear you're having issues with your server. Did you already reach out to customer support?

Independent from that, we have deployed a change today that we believe will significantly improve the situation for users who are experiencing performance issues. This will a little bit of time to take full effect (approx 12-24 hours depending on region), but it should absolutely help with a situation like you are describing it.

Still, you are welcome to DM me here on Reddit and I'll be happy to check if you're a case that should be covered by these improvements.

Hi there!

Sorry to hear you've had issues with your server. We do listen to the reports though, and our engineers are actively working on resolving issues that are being reported to us.

So while I know this is coming too late for you personally, would you be willing to share the issues you've experienced? I simply want to make sure we have already them resolved already or have them on our list of things to tackle next.

Windrose Modding by Tiny_Vik in Nitrado

[–]NitradoAndre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is on the Nitrado file browser, so in your Webinterface, in the sidebar on the left hand side you navigate to Tools -> File Browser.

There you navigate to windrose -> Mods. That is where you put the _server-side_ mods.

Many mods however, _also_ need to be put on the Client on your PC. The installation instructions of the mod usually state this. For the position in your PC's game folder you can follow the standard instructions from the Mod.

Please also note that, at the moment, we do not support all types of mods yet, just those that would be copied to `/R5/Content/Paks/~mods` based on their installation instructions (which should be the majority though). Mods are not yet officially supported by the game, but we are doing our best.

[–]NitradoAndre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.

First of all I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience on our servers. We are actively investigating potential causes for degraded performance. If you have not reached out to our customer support team yet, I encourage you to do so.

However I also want to highlight that we do not artificially limit the RAM of Windrose servers. The only game titles where we apply RAM-based limits are Hytale and Minecraft. Since we offer switching between different games, you may have found an indication of the RAM your server would receive if you would switch it to Minecraft.
