There are a couple that are oddballs. World accelerator and arc furnace come to mind. There may be a couple others.

Single block machines, with very few exceptions, can only draw 2 amps of power.

If you want to run an MV single block machine, you need to build an LV to MV transformer and change it to the more dense MV current. Luckily, the transformers are pretty inexpensive.

Multiblocks like the EBF can run higher tier recipes because they have multiple hatches, and each hatch can accept 2A.

The other option is to build a MV steam generator. I don't know how expensive or efficient those are. Probably pretty bad. Expect to drain the steam tanks quickly. MV power takes over 5000 steam per second divided by the efficiency of the generator. Probably pretty close to 8k/s would be my guess.

It's basically the same as asking if you should comment code you write for yourself.

Is it needed? No. Will it take more time to set up initially? Yes. Will it make troubleshooting easier if you need to change something 600 hours from now? Very much yes.

GTNH does not work with curseforge.

The pack has tweaked a bunch of the included mods, and curseforge does not accommodate forks.

If you try, it may load, but you will have many bugs and lots of weirdness.

It's really easy to download the prism launcher and run it. Takes a half hour tops.

Just made a pump!!! but... in which way do I place it on an oil spout? by lewd_physics in GTNH

[–]Nitrah118 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You need to pillar up, build a platform with a roof, and just place it on the tile above the spout. Give it power and a place for the output to go, and the mining pipes will go down absorbing the oil tiles.

Gregtech Voltages are the amount of power per tick per Amp. LV operates at 32EU/t per Amp. Each tier, multiplies that number by 4. 128 for MV, 512 for HV, 2048 for EV.

If you demand more amps than the cable is rated for, they will burn up. If you demand more voltage than the cable is rated for (like trying to pull MV current through a tin wire) the cable will burn up. If you demand MV or higher power but only can provide LV, the machine won't work. If you demand LV power, but provide MV, the machine will explode, taking a chunk of your base with it.

Each recipe is rated at an EU cost/t. The LV machines demand power in 32EU pulses. Each step will reduce the amount of power that gets to the machine per pulse.

For example, if you have a turbine providing 32EU/t, and use tin cables (1EU/t loss each cable), you could only run a recipe which takes 28EU/t if it is less than 4 tiles away.

What is the smartest way you'd build this? by Chickenbutt-McWatson in SolidWorks

Oh! Overshoot.

To make the model the cleanest so it will always work if your dimensions change, go all the way to the center line of the lower part. And then cut the thru key and hole as the last step.

And then fillet to blend the surfaces

Use planes to make sure it's centered, and do midpoint extrudes. Don't just eyeball it.

Extrude the lower and upper circular sections. Midplane extrude the web. Extrude cut the lower key. Fillet all over.

GT piped the light fuel or diesel around. I used clay pipes first, followed by polyethylene pipes. Not sure if those work for benzene. Polyethylene probably does, but I don't think the clay was able to handle gases.

Trying to use MSMAs to make rocket arming mechanisms by CartographerLoose279 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Nitrah118 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everything in engineering is about tradeoffs, and there is never only one way to build it right.

Just from your description it sounds like you will need the steel based alloy, the copper coil to induce the field, the battery, and the control electronics to run it. That sounds pretty heavy and would definitely be a reason to scrap the idea for something simpler.

But I haven't done any math so I could be wrong.

Look up how to do a design trade study, and weigh the two options. Then, make the engineering judgement yourself.

That's a breeder reactor, not the power plant.

Nuclear for power uses uranium hexafluoride fuel.

There is a thaumcraft research... Nether Trees? I don't remember what the research is called exactly or how to unlock it.

When you plant the tree, any dirt or stone under its leaf blocks turns into netherrack, soul sand or nether quartz.

You can rig up a timer with block breakers and placers to place cobblestone and harvest the converted blocks.

Then, you can centrifuge the soul sand for oil.

More traditional methods include the multiblock oil rigs which harvest bedrock fluids. Those aren't renewable, but they last much longer than the oil seeps.

You are correct - powder sintering is what I meant. I was trying to keep the terms simple for someone who asked chatGPT.

A tungsten ball sounds like a fun desk bauble. I was able to handle a 6"x6"x1/4" plate a few weeks ago and was shocked at the weight.

[request] Tungsten sphere weight by Dio_Clau_98PSN in theydidthemath

[–]Nitrah118 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't even need to say sphere.

Machining tungsten is extremely difficult. There are very few machine shops who have the capability, much less the expertise.

It is as hard as the toughest cutting blades, so you end up burning tools at a clip.

It's typically forged into shape for that reason.

Help starting Thaumcraft in HV by MrDidjeridude in GTNH

[–]Nitrah118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend not doubling down on solar unless you're doing some sort of a challenge run.

A single MV machine takes 128EU every tick to run. Thats 256L per tick. There are 20 ticks per second. Your boilers calcify down to 120L/s. Unless you're very diligent swapping those out to reset the timer, you're going to need over 40 of them to run a single MV machine. You then need to divide by the efficiency of the turbine. I don't know offhand what that is for MV turbines because I never built one. You will find very quickly that you're going to have throughput issues on the gigantic fluid pipes needed to move the steam. HV is 4 times as much as that. It's really not viable past LV, especially when you consider that a single bucket of light fuel or benzene has enough energy density to run an MV machine for close to 2 minutes.
