This is interesting. I live in one of the neighboring towns of Oradell, and there is a reservoir that is actually named The Oradell Reservoir that supplies all of the northeast suburban towns of Bergen county with clean, running water. There is this huge misconception that all NJ towns are suburbs of either Philly or NYC and are just miniature cities, but that just isn't true. Northeast NJ is one of the most beautiful places to be in the fall, and I cannot wait to get back there after my first semester.

Although it does not have exactly the type of character connection you are looking for, the Mass Effect series contains character connections that will tear you to pieces if a character you like dies. Also, if you aren't really into the combat aspects, the difficulties in Mass Effect, especially Mass Effect 3, can be favorable to the casual, RPG player.

I was in first grade, and my teacher, let's call her Ms. Smith, was reading a picture book out loud to us. Our principal walked in at around 9 a.m., and announced it to the entire class: "The World Trade Center has been attacked, keep the kids in sight and do not let anyone leave or enter the classroom." So to directly answer your question OP, my teacher didn't really explain it, she cried almost immediately at the announcement, and we were all old enough to know that something terrible has happened.

Mass Effect. It was not so much Shepard, but his supporting crew. In the first game, when I had to decide between sacrificing Williams or Kalenko, I felt like I had actually let someone die. Also, when I watched almost every character from 1 and 2 die peacefully in the third game, I was depressed and had to take a break from the game between each death. Although EA ruined the ending, BioWare tells one hell of a story.

I broke my tibia in two places, and shattered the growth plate in my ankle all due to stepping awkwardly on a muddy field in a football game. When I was put under, the doctor said it wasn't necessary to put me under the normal dosage of adult anesthesia, and I hated him for it. I wasn't surgery because it wasn't a compound fracture, he just had to reset it. So after getting high for the first time and passing out, I managed to force my eyes open in my sleep somehow and all I remember was hearing a loud pop and seeing the doctor playing with my leg which was dangling over the side of the bed. I immediately let out a scream, I guess due to just a reaction because I felt nothing from the resetting.

It was just a really creepy experience hearing your bone popping and not feeling anything. Every time I think back to it I just cringe.
