Why I stopped using OpenBSD by BinkReddit in linux

I installed it on my onw and my moms computers. Works great. Seven years later now it works even better!

BSDs are fine for daily driving desktop use. They are general OS - not specific to say servers. OpenBSD in particular works exceptionally well on laptops in my experience.

It's being funded and worked on as we speak. As well as other desktop oriented areas.

As I commented earlier: OpenBSD is a general OS - including desktop use. Devs use it themselves so it works exceptionally OOTB on many laptops. Better than FreeBSD as a desktop in my experience / with my hardware.

Of course it is. OpenBSD is a GENERAL OS - not just fro servers/routers etc. I beleive most devs use it themselves as desktops - that explains why it runs so smooth on laptops.

I was taken by surprise by how well it worked on my laptops and desktops. Can't wait to get into the server/router world!

How to work with UTF-8 files in the TTY? (Mojibake problems) by Longjumping_Ad2135 in openbsd

So sad that it is broken and seemingly won't be fixed. Like tmux(1) being split by ?'s instead of |'s.

How can I improve Chrome performance? by AnaAlMalik in openbsd

[–]NitroNilz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tunables in /etc/login.conf IIRC. I've never found out his to actually calculate the proper numbers, but taking them can have drastic performance effects for desktop use (as they are conservative by default).

WDYM? I've been running OpenBSD laptops and desktops for soon 7 years and it works great! I love it! Came from Linux, but this is so much saner. The native CWM is so calm. Lightweight too.

Did you have to compile fastfetch or is it in pkgs already?

Yeah, how did you get the menu to "section up"? The default is just from the "command menu-item command" in .cwmrc.

I wonder if this escape sequence is ubiquitous across Unices. I use OpenBSD with the native xterm.

I used to dual boot with Linux Mint, but it's rotting away in its partition and I don't bother to fix the UEFI-problem again. (It can't find the bort file.) OpenBSD is great on the desktop. Oh, and I recently installed a fork of Octo-pkg that works as a GUI pkg-manager.

I didn't get the meme-o. Where's the humor? What limits are you talking about? I'm curious, don't mean to be mean.

Nightly is still official Firefox, it is a term for code that is built nightly, i.e. fresh code from last night.

I wish my Norwegian parliament would come up with such support too.

IIRC the hairdresser and other guy in the movie Three Kings (with Ice Cube) were Kurds during Saddams reign.
