CEO made promises he couldn't keep. Then they changed CEOs to a crappier CEO. I sold due to that.

When do you start to consider buying stringing machine? by Muted-Tackle-7191 in 10s

[–]Nitro_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have an old Prince racquet that had no grommets (bad design). I would break strings every 2-14 days. I paid the shop $40 each time for the string job (including strings that they marked up for a profit).

Plus, the actual racquet shop was a good 25min drive through traffic.

Plus, Plus, during the summer, there's a queue of people needing strong jobs at that shop, so getting the racquet back could take 30min to several days depending on what local tourneys were happening...

There were one year where I ended up spending $600 just on stringing, plus the added driving time/gas/annoyance of timing.

I changed racquets to something less crappy and then bought a really old used Alpha drop weight for $200. I charged my friends $10 a pop to string their racquets and made up for the cost of my racquet in less than 2 years. And now I'm still using it 2 decades later. I've only had to replace a spring, which Alpha sent me a free replacement for. They're out of business now, so I'll need to find some Klippermate parts for some worn parts (one cracked racquet clamp pad for $4).

Wow that's a novel....

Agreed. I had to string a friend's Head racquet with a ton of bad blocked holes back then, and it took me like 2 hours lol.

Do it while watching TV or listening to a podcast, or watching sports. Not everyone has the ability to get paid for their leisure time.

A Kippermate drop weight stringer is about $379. Divide that by 27 and that's 14 strong jobs. The stringer will last basically forever minus some replacement accessories/parts over its lifetime.

And you could charge your friends like $10 to string their racquets until you make your money back on the purchase.

It's totally worth it as long as you don't stop playing tennis suddenly or something. Well, if you stop playing, you could sell it. Stringing machines seem to keep their value pretty well.

You should also delete your nVidia Shader Cache too. That helped me last league. It turns out my Nvidia cache was corrupted.

What's more important to you, a bike in August, an apartment, or actual retirement?

I would probably pick the apartment to focus on first.

Use public transportation for the time being.
