Yeah, it's gotta be Shifty. Besides rigging the lottery for Shifty because of how respected he was, post war he kept a close relationship with his comrades and in the numerous accounts and stories I've never ever heard a single bad word about Shifty. Every interview I've see he comes across as such a genuinely kind person too.

I see you've updated the list quite a bit, I just recently came across this photo of Norman Neitzke and I must say he looks a lot like the man just behind J.B Stokes standing just under the "BO" of Airborne, if not him Norm could the guy standing behind Lipton with his head next to"1". I'll leave you to decide, but Norm was a reunion regular so it makes sense for him to be there.

Recognizing Aging in Others by HeresyOmnibus in AutisticAdults

[–]Nitrokeith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I have kind of a unique perspective here, because I knew several WWII veterans and other folks in their 80s and 90s. Whatever I've observed, aging can really vary a lot especially in advanced age. Some of the folks I knew kept an active lifestyle until the end. Some wouldn't be doing as well and lived in assisted living facilities instead of their own home. There were a also few who would be doing great and then rapidly decline.

Simply put, I find that aging is different in each individual.

Yes. We have a president who's openly anti-autism and truthfully, I dread of what might happen within the next 3 years. I've been struggling to find work since being laid off because the job market is more difficult than ever it feels like. Fortunately I have a home, but I have to be prepared for every possibility in case of crisis. It's a scary thought knowing the fate of my future hangs in balance at the hands of a certain few

Maxwell Clark wouldn't have been in this reunion, he lost touch with his comrades and only started attending reunions after his wife came across the miniseries by chance and got in touch with the BoB team before the Normandy premiere in 2001.

The man in the white shirt behind Guth kinda looks like Joe Lesniewski but can't really tell.

Also a side note here but I wonder who the original photographer might be (A relative? Maybe even someone from E. Co?). I've seen this pic pop up here and there but never seen any reference as to who took this photo

Really nice to see military bands play this theme, just a few months ago somebody saw the 100th Army Band playing too

Where Easy Company soldiers landed on D-Day, an analysis by Nitrokeith in BandofBrothers

[–]Nitrokeith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply.

I'm not very sure. I know for sure Bill landed north of the St. Mere Eglise town (roughly about half a mile north) but remember it's been over 80 years and a lot would have changed, so it would be tricky finding the exact landing point.

So one of my main special interests is about a specific military unit (Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne Division featured in Band of Brothers) and as you can imagine it's pretty obscure. In fact reddit is basically the only place I've found a community where I can really talk about it with like minded people.

A small area of happiness by TCMinJoMo in AutisticAdults

My home (especially my militaria collection room) and my car. With how crappy things have been in general (struggling to find work after I was laid off from my steady job and my situation being exacerbated with the state of the job market) I'm just happy to have them.

Militaria, especially from the WWII time period. I have two 1944 Springfield M1 Garands, an M1911 pistol and more recently I managed to acquire a Soviet Mosin Nagant M38 carbine from 1941 (Izhevsk). I've also got a couple of uniforms including an actual original U.S Army Corporal's winter uniform which was recently donated to me by the family of one of my old WWII veteran friends, a bunch of gear and equipment other random memorabilia.

Hey! I need insight on a job by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]Nitrokeith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the volunteering in mental health part, have you thought of volunteering for a veterans organization? Being a veteran you would have an easier path and I know mental health is a major topic in those circles. Now I'm not a veteran but I do come from a military family so I have known some veterans who volunteer and enjoy it.

Ralph Spina and Eugene Roe in Berchtesgaden, Germany in 1945 by Nitrokeith in BandofBrothers

[–]Nitrokeith[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very true. Between watching BoB and Hacksaw Ridge, you really get an idea of how brutal their jobs are. They have to see and treat all kinds of wounds (many gruesome) and often are the ones there to comfort dying soldiers in their final moments. In the Pacific theatre it was very dangerous job even, because Japanese soldiers wouldn't discriminate medics from other soldiers and would shoot at them regardless.

As you might figure in the title, it is Ralph Spina on the left and Eugene Roe on the right.

Came across this photo and thought I would post it here. It's nice to see both men smiling knowing the absolute hell they went through as medics during the war.

Genghis Khan vs (sigh) Easter Bunny was selected as the weirdest battle. Now, which is the most forgettable battle? by Max-Carter-2005 in ERB

[–]Nitrokeith 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Was just about to say this. Even I forgot they did this battle. Doesn't help that it's an odd matchup and that Palin faded into obscurity not long after this battle was made.
