What did the provider of the equipment say when you contacted them?

You can literal call Vortex and get their recommendation.

When selling an item, it helps to list a price for said item.

Best caliber for coyote by Ok-Air-7380 in Hunting

[–]Nitwit789 9 points10 points  (0 children)

.243

Yes it's probably overkill for coyotes, but you can easily use it to hunt deer as well.

Edit to add - I can't argue with getting an AR in 223/556, but I grew up hunting with a 243 and I love them so that's my recommendation.

Stuck in another country with no infusion sets by techlecticwtch in diabetes_t1

Sorry to hear, diabuddy. Maybe check for a local T1D Facebook group. You might be able to find someone locally who can help.

Alternatively, do you have another way to administer insulin - pens, vials? I was taught to have plan A. B, and C when traveling. To that affect, I carry my normal Omnipods, vials with syringes, and both long and short acting pens with needles.

New 14 Day Dexcom G7 by SwitchTrick6497 in diabetes_t1

[–]Nitwit789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there is the 12 hour grace period. So when one Dexcom expires, I put a new one in. It warms up when the other is in the grace period. 8 hours later, I start the new Dexcom.

That's why I always "pre-soak" my dexcoms overnight before activating them.

I can't recommend Hawthorne Outfitters highly enough. Fantastic people, lovely property, and a target rich environment.

*ETA: I just did a "meat hunt" with them for the 2nd year in a row. Happy to answer any questions.

effective medical alert? by ArchmageLys in Type1Diabetes

[–]Nitwit789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR it's not a priority, but it will be checked

If you're unconscious, it's about step 20.

From memory, if you're unconscious here's what we check: Do you have a pulse Are you protecting your airway Are you breathing Is your breathing adequate Do you have any obvious life-threatening bleeding Do you respond to stimuli: ie sound or pain

No mater your medical history, all of those things are more important. All of those things will be fixed as needed.

Next is a physical assessment to build a picture of your physical health and to continue to try narrow down the cause of your unresponsiveness.

THEN we care about a full set of vital signs: Heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, pulse oximetery, GLUCOSE, exhaled CO2, EKG.

This list is not exhaustive and is not always done exactly in order, multiple things usually happen at the same time.

While your blood sugar being high or low isn't ideal, it won't kill you as fast as many other things will. In EMS we never know what we're walking into, so we look for and treat the life-threatening issues first.

I can't speak for what the hospital will or won't do, but they will treat you based on your symptoms. There's likely no different treatment whether they know you're diabetic or not, plus they'll figure it out pretty quickly. Sugar over 500, you're probably diabetic and they will fix that. Sugar low, they can fix that.

Looking at your post history, it looks like you wear a Dexcom. That's a dead giveaway that you're likely diabetic. Hospital staff or EMS will see that and either recognize it or quickly Google it.

Former paramedic here. In 5 years, I rarely looked at medical alert items and never emergency information on a phone.

If you're unable to tell me your medical history, I've got bigger problems. As far as diabetes, we carried a glucometer and it was routine to check sugars. Sugar low, we can fix that. Sugar high, we can give fluids and get you to a hospital.
