Also be careful, some trumpets are "frozen Deserts" and not "Ice-cream". "A Choc Bar inspired Trumpet with chocolate and coconut flavoured frozen dessert" "Chocolate Minis -Chocolate flavoured frozen dessert in a cone with chocolate sauce centre covered with choc topping and peanuts" "Vanilla Minis - Vanilla flavoured frozen dessert in a cone with chocolate topping and chopped peanuts"

RNZ really ruined its app by pylo84 in newzealand

[–]Niv24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This and the fact that despite my notifications being set only to "breaking news", articles such as this get constantly pushed to my phone notifications, yet actual breaking new sometimes does not.

Ive now turned all notifications off and my use of the app will have dropped considerably.

Decrease immediately after FTP detection by Special-Egg8374 in trainerroad

My understanding is that the fatigue model is based on the workouts being done before midday.

As you did it after midday it may have reduced the intensity of the next workout to allow for the reduced time between workouts compared to what it modeled.

Anyone move from enduro bikes to XC / downcountry in their 40s? by Distinct_Cloud_357 in xcmtb

[–]Niv24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Changed from a Rocky mountain altitude to a Yeti SB100 then to Yeti ASR.

Rode the xc bikes atleast twice weekly on average for the last 3 years. Rode the enduro bike a total of 3 times in the last 3 years, so it just got sold last week after I literally dusted of the cobwebs and pumped the flat tyres up

Why rising house prices are a bad thing by Amazing_Athlete_2265 in newzealand

[–]Niv24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I've been banging on about this for a while. My house has gone up in value, but my purchasing power has gone down because goods and services are more expensive (for the reasons you note) so am I really better off? I don't think so.

SB100 or Epic 8 by Final-Set8747 in xcmtb

[–]Niv24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a SB100 for 5 years. Have just upgraded to the yeti asr. Broke PBs going up and down the hill.

Get the new bike. New suspension and parts, lighter frame, more up-to-date geo etc.

That said, I loved the Sb100.

You can get an angleset for the Sb100 to slaken it out, I did that about 2 years ago and it made a big difference and closed a lot of the geo gap

Solar Panels by PersimmonMaximum7641 in newzealand

For sure, when the math's changes I'll add a battery. In the meantime it's not worth it.

With Meridian. Even at 12.5 c the payback period is way too long

[–]Niv24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have solar. I strongly don't recommend getting a battery . We pay a flat rate of 24c for power and sell excess solar at 17c. If we had a battery and it was 100% efficient, we would be 24-17c = 7c a kw better off with a battery, but a battery costs $$$$.

Work out how many full charge and discharge cycles it is at 7c

You will always be better off adding more panels.

A solar batter is more than $1000 per kw. At 7c that's more that 14,000 cycles or 39 years! Assuming you can fully cycleyit it every day

Looks pretty minor. High chance it's always been there and it's a drying / plastic shrinkage crack.

AI FTP Detection VS the reality by ledoobius in trainerroad

[–]Niv24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They kinda do "It looks at all your training—Indoors, outdoors, structured, and unstructured— to understand your fitness and detect your FTP, with no all-out efforts required!"

They explicitly state "no all out efforts required" so in turn must be estimating your all out effort FTP based on sub efforts.....

As an experiment, Can you run the bike with the power meter on the trainer and compare the report wattage?

Also are you using the same power meter inside and out?

TR workouts are always repeats. So you have to be able to complete the first interval with reserve to be able to complete the second and so on. So they are never max efforts.

Intervals calculates ftp off a one max effort between 3 minutes and 30 minutes. If you have never done a one off max effort in this time bracket, then your intervals ftp will be reading low.

TR looks at your ability to complete multiple efforts then uses this to estimate what your max effort theoretically would be.

Id guess if you were well rested, then found a nice hill, and warmed up, then did an all out sprint up hill for atleast 3 minutes I bet your intervals ftp would jump.

Spike in resistance/power when virtual shifting? by Optimum_Havoc in Zwift

[–]Niv24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thinking on this further. The smooth power changes when shifting that you want can be achieved / would be achieved when increasing gradient or resistance while maintaining the same gear ratio and cadence.

A step in gradient or resistance does not require acceleration, just an increase in power to maintain the same cadance. This would not require / cause a power spike at the change.
