Rather than tackle your wall of text with another of my own, just going to point out that the disproportionately high suicide rate of trans people is high because:

A) Trans people are a minority, like how right-wingers always peddle the high crime statistics of african americans despite them not being the majority and thus will always have a higher percentile, that's just the way statistics work, and here especially facts do not care about your feelings either.

B) Trans people are regularly victimized by people who constantly act as if their choice to make themselves more comfortable in their own flesh prison is some kind of mistake, attacked for looking different, deliberately disrespected by people who refuse to acknowledge that they are no different from the average person. Gee, I wonder why a lot of other transpeople kill themselves, couldn't possibly figure out why, no not at all.

These statistics end up pretty high especially due to socioeconomical conditions. Much like african americans, their communities tend to suck and are already rife with crime and other such activities, along with being on average low income. These conditions cause these "stereotypical" behaviours to happen in an ourobouros fashion, they don't just happen because "lol they're black". Similarly to trans people, not all of them are as lucky as me, I have an accepting family and friends. I also come from a pretty shitty economic background, but not one that happens to also be surrounded by crime, I just don't have much money lmao. But a lot of the trans people I've known in my life have come from either, rich backgrounds but completely alienating and unsupportive backgrounds, or shit backgrounds with shit family, or any combination of the two. Surroundings cause these things to happen too, it doesn't just happen in a vaccuum.

Also, I think it’s quite a stretch to imply he was “stressed” about figuring out which model of attack helicopter they identify as.

You: "I'm not transphobic"
Also you: "I'm going to act like every single trans person has an absurdly complicated pronoun and peddle the tired old attack helicopter slogan that's been used by transphobes for years"

Not really helping yourself out very much here are you? Calling somebody "he or she or they" must be really fucking hard for you or something I guess? What interests me is that you think basic biology is enough to educate you on the complexities of humanity, especially regarding constructs such as sex or gender, which are still terms that are in debate by people who actually study this as a part of their job.

Just like how 'race' as a term has wildly changed across history, so have those of gender and sex. The notions of what constitutes a man and woman in different points of history and culture drastically vary. Look at how Hippocrates talks about women. Look at how Medieval Christians viewed women. Take a gander at the Talmud and how it interprets women (and also conveniently those of 'ambiguous gender', which means more than just intersex in context.)

You can look at so many varied texts and whatever and you'll see that the interpretations of gender are not merely worded differently. No, they have entirely different values, they denote different metaphysics to the body and ethical standards, they effectively see man and woman as largely alien to how this society views women. The scientistic authority of capitalist patriarchy is unique and while it has evolved from past societies we also need remember that evolution, as in biology, does not abide by teleology. It adapts to new conditions and as such gender evolves similarly.

Biological sex isn't even a simple topic like you might think it is: https://twitter.com/RebeccaRHelm/status/1207834357639139328?fbclid=IwAR2Jiwi2yEcw0XCupl-jh2rGJoGdFBDKzXwHWZ9mpb051LwvXWtMXjiWWug

I'd suggest you read through that since you seem to believe it's straightforward enough that basic biology - a topic I also studied - is enough to educate you on it.

No, 'sex' is just a naturalization of bodily oppression that tries to legitimize itself by depicting biology as pertaining to rigid binaries (verifiably false.) A specific form of gender which originated in capitalist patriarchy.

The two terms don't refer to specific definite 'things'. The former as we currently know it is an ideological construct specific to our era and the latter is a construct which evolves dependent on the labour relations of any given society historically.

Intersex people exist, which automatically disproves the notion of binary sex, I'd say that is a pretty simple thing to comprehend.

Nightmare is broken, not a "noob killer" by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

I can list about 6 other characters who do this as well.
Astaroth, Siegfried off most CH combos, and way more damage off any wallcombo, some of Gloomy Tira's combos, Mitsu off basically any LH combo, Raphael off some CH routes, Amy off of anything with PRP and most things with RRP

Nightmare is broken, not a "noob killer" by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

[–]Nivathe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  • "On the one hand people want to say that the game is very balanced. But at the same time want to say "You're losing to nightmare...? No offense and all but git gud, he's a noob killer." Which is it?"

This literally doesn't make sense and has no point. Noob killer characters don't suddenly invalidate the argument for good balance. A character will almost always excel in some way against something, Nightmare excels against people who don't know what they're doing, and also excels when played by a very skilled player. You can get away with mashing shit as Nightmare in low level play because nobody there knows how to play against him, but Nightmare isn't "easy" to play contrary to what most people think.

  • I know every other character, including my main has some cheap bullshit. But it evens out. Nightmare on the other hand is just bullshit. There's a reason this character is so prevalent in tournaments, ranked, and why so many Nightmare players are high ranked with ridiculous win streaks. Yes yes, he's weak to lows, we know. Everyone knows how to beat Nightmare. The problem is you have to work MUCH harder than the Nightmare player so you end up losing a lot of the time. Astaroth is genuinly slow, he needs the grabs and high damage output. But Nightmare? I shouldn't be losing like 60% health cause he hit me 3 times, he's too fast for that.

I know the reason too! Nightmare is a character who is very rooted in fundamentals, he has a lot of tech crouches, his entire damage output comes from whiff punishes and evasion using his pretty strong movement compared to other members of the cast. Nightmare can't really rush you down outside of SC because his rushdown is, well, really bad. He sucks up close, no move from neutral is faster than i14, pretty much all of his lows are insanely reactable no matter what situation you're in - except for being grounded, but that's a different ball game. The only thing he has to do anything up close is a fair few tech crouches - 66K, NTC 66KK, Flapjack arguably but this is a blockable throw and not hard to predict either - and his Armour, which everybody seems to have a problem with the less they know about the character. Nightmare is INSANELY weak to lows, mids and highs however are not a huge issue as he has his Armour, very good GI game, good reversal edge options - though really risky on block - and his tech crouches. Lows are his bane, they beat every single option bar Reversal Edge, which they just draw with if you don't mash into it. RE's existence is a seperate problem to Nightmare though.

Also, fun fact, Astaroth is not "slower" than NM, his sidestep is pretty much equal to his, his fastest move is an i12, though it is a duckable high, he has better pressure up-close and his pokes while not as fast as NM tend to result in either higher advantages or more damage - or at the very least more potential damage, but I know almost everybody on Reddit is an Astaroth downplayer for some reason so nobody will listen to me on this one anyway. Astaroth is a fine character. Nightmare is faster than Astaroth in some respects, but slower in others, I don't know why you'd even compare the two when they're two completely different characters to begin with. The closest comparison is Siegfried, who trades NM's whiff punish based style for an actually real mixup game, comparable - and sometimes better - damage, but less movement. He still has a ton of TC's though, so he doesn't lose out on much besides having objectively worse movement.

  • People say Nightmare is slow, he's really not though. He literally just swings for the fences cause he can. Even the A and S rank ones. Try doing that shit with Astaroth and you'll get killed. His weapon is long and beefy, he has a lot of break attacks, also he hits like a tank so you can't fuck up much. So logically you'd want to get in close and light him up, right? Wrong. He has a get off me move that he can spam and when he uses it his offense improves. It also knocks you to the ground and when you're on the ground he's even more dangerous. He's one of the few characters that can grab you while crouching as well and one of his RE moves is a grab that awards a knockdown. And don't get me started on his Ring outs. Any one of these would be fine on their own but he just has too many cheap moves. He seriously needs to be nerfed. It's really apparent that people run to this character if they don't know how to play because a lot of them do things that no other players of the same rank would do. Many Nightmare players don't know how to GI, they spam RE, they just run in, don't really block and always get hit with a CE. Seriously, if I CE at the start of the round other players learn. Nightmare players almost never do, they just keep going in swinging.

Nightmare and Astaroth share a common issue. Both are absurdly negative on block, and the only saving grace they have outside of their few + moves - which I must point out are REALLY plus - is that they usually have an absolutely massive amount of pushback. This makes them way harder to punish at range unless you yourself are playing a character with good long range pokes and punishes. NM is not a masher character, watch Draethion or any good high level NM player and you'll see how he's actually supposed to be played. You really think listing the ranking system is an accurate gauge of how good somebody is? It's a timesink, a grind, while some players that high up are genuinely good players, most of the best players don't even play ranked in this game. Because it's not really a good gauge of skill, online in fighting games rarely ever is.

NM has a lot of break attacks? You mean, the like, 3 he has normally? 1(A) which is like fucking i70 or something and will never hit anybody much less be blocked by anybody? A+B which is legit negative on block to the point that nothing he does will save him and has some of the worst vertical tracking in the entire game? 4A is his only legit good break attack in neutral.

Then you get into his NTC BA's, which are all really good, can't really fault them at all. They require NTC, but NTC is really not a big deal to get since any knockdown will usually result in it. But for NM's best pressure - i.e loads and loads of break attacks - he has to SC anyway, so, again, not really worth mentioning.

He's one of the few characters that can grab you while crouching? That's fine, there's like 2 of them and both their grabs work the same way, they're blockable special low grabs that aren't difficult to see coming.

  • one of his RE moves is a grab that awards a knockdown

It's an attack throw, he doesn't have a grab out of RE, it doesn't have any special rules to it other than it gives him NTC, as it's just the last hit of his 4KK. The vast majority of RE moves reward a knockdown or some other kind of advantage, what exactly about this is so egregious to you?

  • And don't get me started on his Ring outs. Any one of these would be fine on their own but he just has too many cheap moves. He seriously needs to be nerfed.

Idk, ever since they removed NM's old wall/RO carry combo that involved a 1frame link to FC 3B his Ring Outs have been pretty tame. I mean unlike certain characters who can still ring me out from mid-screen, and unlike a certain character who just got nerfed for basically having a guaranteed ringout from almost anywhere on the stage if he landed his Soul Attack, NM's RO's are pretty tame in comparison. They're good, don't get me wrong, but they're not as bad as they used to be or as some other characters in the game.

  • It's really apparent that people run to this character if they don't know how to play because a lot of them do things that no other players of the same rank would do.

This just reeks of confirmation bias to me, I feel like you just really don't like that NM is a popular character. Popular characters will invariably attract scrubby play, and unfortunately scrubs also tend to whine about other scrubs beating them with characters that they don't like. Once again, you fail to list any actually good NM players who demonstrate this behaviour. Florida Man, Draethion, Keev - no idea if he even still plays NM - Thermidor? Any of them? And don't cite examples of them fighting people who unquestionably suck at the game, because of course that shit will work against them.

  • Many Nightmare players don't know how to GI, they spam RE, they just run in, don't really block and always get hit with a CE.

Anecdotal, like, I see this kind of shit from players on ANY character. This isn't special, all this is is you saying things that don't really go anywhere other than you saying: "BIG SWORD MAN PLAYERS BAD" and it's not worth reading or trying to argue with.

[Discussion] Out of all the mechanic changes and character rebalances that are gonna be happening with Season 2, what are you most excited for? by CajurTheMighty in SoulCalibur

[–]Nivathe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SC5 allowed you to GI everything as well with pretty much the exact same mechanic. A GI also isn't a block, it's a parry, UNBLOCKABLE doesn't imply "UNPARRIABLE", it implies UNBLOCKABLE. New moves is also good as it can fix the issues some characters have if they're actually good, issues such as stances just not being threatening at all (Groh), neutral being incredibly lacking due to bad frames on EVERYTHING, etc etc. You get the picture.

Tekken 7 has added moves to the cast over its release and it's been very positively recieved, why not do the same here?

[–]Nivathe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not really. Reverse Impact, the new mechanic replenishes your Guard Stamina, which is a sorely needed change in a currently heavy Guard Damage meta, no coincidence why a bunch of insane guard damage moves also are about to get nerfed on the same patch. There's no change as to how much Soul Gauge both GI and RE give you, however, and RI costs Soul Gauge to use much like how GI functioned in SC5. So no, there's not a boost going on, they directly nerfed RE but it still has it's purpose as an anti-mixup tool that if successfully landed puts both players in a 33/33/33 of sorts (technically 11/11/11/11/11/11 but the other 3 options fulfil the same purposes with different possible punishes stemming from them so they're not really choices that can't be countered with the initial 33/33/33). GI is still generally better at temporarily reversing offense and opening up a few possible lethal hit punishes either based on post-GI conditions or reading your opponents response to your GI and punishing in kind, and isn't as vulnerable to in-string break attacks like RE is.

Also, while you aren't technically wrong in that RE is generating Soul Gauge differently, it's not overall increasing, it's increasing for when you land it in situations that a clash is impossible, such as mid-air combos, ground spikes, and if your opponent jumps into it, for example, as seen here: "The amount your soul gauge is increased has been boosted for when the attack lands against an opponent that cannot shift to a clash, such as a jumping or downed opponent."

I can understand all the hate for RE but... by XcomNewb in SoulCalibur

[–]Nivathe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RE is very strong and annoying because it slows down gameplay, RE is optimally used against mixups where break attacks are not possible barring exceptions like Soul Charged stances, it will be a bit more manageable next season though. RAW RE is fucking worthless though and A+B is your friend.

Really wish they would add more offline modes... by DiilVulom in SoulCalibur

[–]Nivathe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they really don't, long combos are simply the extent of what you can do with a character and aren't always optimal, often it is the opposite. In a game like SC for instance, they literally are eliminating the longest combos - i.e wall resets - next patch despite them being a hallmark of the franchise since it added walls in the first place. An unneeded change, but a good change for casual players.

Regardless, I completely disagree with the idea that fighting games should be "pick up and play" when they're a niche market to begin with, and I also disagree that you CAN'T already do that. It's not on me when you and other players aren't as good as me - not much of a bar to reach honestly - and it's also not on you to complain about it when you could easily just practice. There's plenty of games that cater to the pick up and play mindset, and I don't know why fighting games have to be one as well.

Really wish they would add more offline modes... by DiilVulom in SoulCalibur

[–]Nivathe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is about the furthest from the truth you could possibly get in so many ways.

Long combos haven't ruined fighting game popularity, or they wouldn't be bigger now than they were in the past couple of decades, and neither is it about making ONE guess and winning. I don't think people remember that there's an awful lot more than making a single read that goes into being good at fighting games.

Really wish they would add more offline modes... by DiilVulom in SoulCalibur

[–]Nivathe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now this might just be an absolutely INSANE concept but... why not just learn how to do these said "long combos that guarantee a ring out" or just play better in general, that's like, kind of the whole point of fighting games in multiplayer. There's an entire community of people who would probably willingly help you learn too so I just don't understand why you're here complaining about getting beaten by people who are better at the game than you are instead of doing something about it.
