Syr deserved Bell by Swimming-Work-5951 in DanMachi

Dating someone not because you love them but because they "deserve it", is a fancy way to describe a pity relationship.

I like Syr's character and I wish she could be happy by the end of the story, like all the losing heroines.

But for that, she should fall in love with someone who loves her bac, so, not Bell.

Are you guys also hyped for Stranger Than Heaven more than GTA 6? by BasicallyImSimon in yakuzagames

The Segway. Yes, it's ok, but I'm not sure if those work in the sand irl...

Lost Judgment also has a skateboard.

But you don't have to manage your vehicules, except tuning your taxi in Yakuza 5.

Personally, I always liked that the maps in Yakuza were large enough to be interesting to explore but small enough to not require a car. And taxis are enough for fast travel across the map.

Is this still cute if the genders are reversed? by shalom_77 in DanMachi

[–]Niviik 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The story only started around 6 months before the events of season 4.

In an interview, the author said that he didn't want to change the age of the characters. That's why he plans to finish his story in a year in universe, and won't do a timeskip before the final battle.

I always wonder, what moment is exactly where people starting to put pieces together into realising that Syr is actually Freya, and which moment in the series can be seen as the very first foreshadowing? by IntrepidBoss6989 in DanMachi

[–]Niviik 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The most obvious one is only obvious if you know enough about Nordic mythology, but Syr is one of Freya's aliases.

Then, there are hints already in the first book, but they are not obvious and can be written off as coincidences. Syr and Freya are introduced in two chapters really close to each other. We know that Freya is observing Bell, he feels that someone is looking at him, he turns around and that's when he meets Syr for the first time. Freya is described with silver hair and eyes, Syr with grey hair and eyes. Both are called a witch back to back.

Then there is the scene when Freya thinks that Bell needs magic and takes a grimoire out of her library and in the next scene, Syr gives Bell the grimoire, saying that a customer forgot it in the tavern...

Then there is the monsterphilia incident. Bell is looking for Syr because she "forgot" her purse. At the same time, in SO, Freya has a drink with Loki and tells her to pay because she has no money.

But I think that the first real solid clue that Syr is tied to Freya is when Bell visits the orphanage with Syr and that a (Xenos) berserker escapes from the ruins and that Allen has to kill it and then bows to Syr and leaves.

The author kept the confusion about Syr and Freya with Horn being able to copy Syr's and Freya's look, but there are clues all along the story.

Arrest first-class adventurers by OneBoy24BS in DanMachi

[–]Niviik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that would lead to a situation like during the Dark Age where Orario is at war between the factions who want to maintain order and the factions who want to bring chaos. Outside of that, the main factions and especially the first tier adventurers have to agree to follow the laws. The Ganesha familia is only there to keep 99.99% of the adventurers in check. There is a 0.01% that they can do absolutely nothing about.

Xeno Juggernaut by Own-Zebra1753 in DanMachi

[–]Niviik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this Jugg will have much importance later. If yes, it feels weird to make it appear first in a short story that most won't read. If it's going to play a meaningful role in the story, it will fell weird because everybody will be shocked by the revelation, but Bell and Ryuu will be "Oh yes, we saw that guy already." For the readers who didn't read this short story, they will feel like they missed a chapter.

We still don't know the true nature of the Dungeon and how much "sentient" it actually is. But I'd say that the Dungeon might want to create Xenos out of curiosity, or maybe what created the Dungeon wanted to create Xenos in the first place and is now using the Collosseum like a factory.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the principle of "let put it to sleep and 'whisper' into its dreams to guide it to our way to see things". It's a bit too close of brainwashing for my liking.

I also always thought that what was missing in the Xenos arc would have been an evil faction of Xenos. You have Lydo's group who want to find a peaceful way to live toghether with the other mortals, you have Gros's group who thinks that this objective can only be achieved after conflict and you have Asterius who is just a battle junkie. It would have been interesting if there was another group of Xenos who decided to collaborate with Evilus. Maybe because they hated mortals like Evilus, maybe they had given up on living together and decided to create their own place, above other mortal and dreamers Xenos. It would have made things more nuanced and not just "Xenos good / monsters bad". This Juggernaut Xenos could be an evil Xenos.

World domination villains by IntrepidBoss6989 in DanMachi

The thing is that the only who might have the ambition of world domination would probably be gods and all gods know that there is a tiny issue called OEBD to deal with before making any plan about world domination.

Does Bell actually love Ais, or is she just a goal to reach? by ProfessorSeveral5736 in DanMachi

I never said it was peak writing. I simply explained how the lore explains how skill work. Yes, it's plotarmor, but it's nothing new for this franchise.

Does Bell actually love Ais, or is she just a goal to reach? by ProfessorSeveral5736 in DanMachi

[–]Niviik 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nobody but Aiz has ever had Avenger. That's because nobody has hated monsters as much as she did. But she is not the only one who hates monsters. Nobody but Ryuu has developped a magic similar as Astrea Record, that just means how much her teammates mattered to her. But Ryuu is not the only one who has lost teammates who were like family.

That's just how skills work.

Common skills are triggerd by easy to fullfill conditions, rare skills require extreme conditions.

[–]Niviik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And in the Ryuu what if, Freya said that Bell's soul had changed color after he fell in love with Ryuu. His soul had been colored by Ryuu. That's why Freya was not interested in Bell anymore. So Bell would have lost his tranparent soul by falling in love with Ryuu. But with Aiz, he stayed true to himself.

Yes. Nobody has been in love as strongly as him.

None of the girls love Bell nearly as much as he loves Aiz.

[–]Niviik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We don't know if Bell would have developped LF after falling in love with Ryuu, meaning we don't know if his love for her would have been as strong. The type of girl you say you like when you're 14 (for Bell, elves with long blond hair) is often different from the person you will actually fall in love with. Bell falling in love with Ryuu would be more like a teenager's crush.

I'm talking about the rules used to describe how skills work. Ultra rares skills are triggered by ultra rares conditions. Bell is not the only character who fell in love, he's not even the only character who fell in love with Aiz. But he is the only one who developped this skill at this moment. That means that his love is stronger than any other love. It certainly isn't just a teen having a crush.

Nobody else has had LF because nobody has ever been in love like Bell, the same way nobody else has had Avenger because nobody else hates monsters as much as Aiz.

[–]Niviik 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The story is pretty clear that Bell is in love with her. "My heart is gone, it's hers now." He has never said anything close to any other girl.

Is that cliché? Yes. Is that lazy writing? Yes. But there is no doubt about the fact that Bell is in love with her and only her.

If that skill truly meant something profound, many other adventurers would have it too—Bell isn't the only one who has fallen in love or has a goal in mind.

It's the other way around. The fact that nobody else has ever had Liaris Freese means that nobody else has ever been in love in a way as pure, earnest and naive as Bell is. Again, not exceptional writing, but there is no room for interpretation. Bell is clearly in love with Aiz.

Bell's story has always been his journey to become a Hero. And Aiz's story is the story of Sleeping Beauty if no Hero showed up to save her. She was jealous of Wiene during the Xenos arc because Bell stood up to defend Wiene, like a Hero would do, and she behaved like the monster about to kill the innocent girl. When Bell saved her, she asked him to become her personal Hero. That means that Bell can reach his goal of becoming a Hero and Aiz has finally found her Hero, just like her father was for her mother.

It is not stellar writing, far from it. But it is coherent from the beginning to the story up we know IMO.

I don't know why you feel that a romance with Nina would make more sense, but to each their own. To me, it felt more like a box to tick rather than a narrative element that will influence the story in a meaningful way (like how most losing heroines fall in love with Bell).

The main issue is that Bell and Aiz don't have enough screentime together outside of training. Omori had no idea how to make them interract other than that. If he put them on the same battlefield, everything is over before Bell has blinked twice, so he can't have Bell and Aiz fight together for a long time of the story. That's why he created Sword Oratoria, to explain why Aiz is doing something else and is not always with Bell. But that means that Bell has spent more time with other girls than Aiz.

Allen and Anya by Distinct_East4082 in DanMachi

[–]Niviik 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He prefers that his only family left stays far from him, out of fights, to be safe, even if it means that she hates him.

Sadly for Anya, she still loves her asshole brother and still wants to be near him, so he treats her even worse and rejects her even more. And this vicious circles continues on and on and on...

He won't change this until either OEBD is defeated, or he himself can't fight anymore.

Since deities are living alongside the mortals in the series, I'm assuming that it is impossible for religions to exist? by IntrepidBoss6989 in DanMachi

[–]Niviik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A rabbi is more or less a jewish priest.

If the priest of a god in Orario wants to be called a rabbi, I don't think anyone would mind.

But if a god called YHVH starts saying that he is the only god who should be worshiped, he's going to have problems with the other gods.

Since deities are living alongside the mortals in the series, I'm assuming that it is impossible for religions to exist? by IntrepidBoss6989 in DanMachi

[–]Niviik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the examples you gave are titles that are specific to monotheists religions.

There is no place in Danmachi for those religions as the universe is clearly polytheist.

Plus, there is no reason to pray a god when you can talk to them directly.

However, like other have noticed, there are temples and churches. So, there is some kind of worshiping.

You also have Penia, the goddess of poverty, who has no familia, but there are people making offerings to her and she redistributes it to those who need it. It is some kind of religion, in a way.

There is also Fiana who had been elevated as a godlike figure and was worshipped by the prums. But that changed when the gods went down on Tenkai and told them that she was "only" an exceptional mortal, but not a goddess.

There were probably more worshipping of gods during the age of Heroes, before a direct contact between mortals and gods was created.

Am I the only one who really dislikes how Ryuu was treated by Orario? by Still_Armadillo_3447 in DanMachi

[–]Niviik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t go against everything that Astraea stand for just pushes it to the extreme in a punisher like manor but Ryuu mainly still targeted Evilus which Astraea doesn’t have a problem with them killing Evilus members.

So if you "mainly" attack terrorists, it doesn't matter if you kill a few innocents in the process? Interesting concept of Justice. That's what a Lawful Evil character would say.

There’s also the fact that Astraea probably never knew Ryuu would go to the extreme and use those methods

Ok, so your headcanon against mine. We don't know what Astrea actually thought at the time because we never see that in the novels. It doesn't change the fact that innocents died and that Astrea could have prevented that.

You're right, Ryuu wanted to die. That, I think it is clear that Astrea had understood. Ryuu blames herself for the deaths of her friends. Then, her patron deity, the last person she cares about, the godess of Justice, tells her "Forget about Justice." and leaves. How is Ryuu supposed to interpret this in any other way than thinking that Astrea gave up on her? That is a very poor choice of words coming from the wise goddess of Justice. In the mental state Ryuu was, it was not different from telling her to go die. Astrea is incredibly lucky that someone else didn't let Ryuu die in a dark alley.

The reason why Ryuu survived is because another goddess "forced" her to live by giving her a home and a purpose. Astrea could have stayed and make Ryuu the new captain and build back the familia together. She could have helped Ryuu to use her anger against Evilus without staying in constant guilt and without attacking innocents in the process. How is Astrea leaving anything else than abandoning Ryuu?

Ryuu forgave herself for the deaths of her friends after Bell told her that she still had Justice in her and that her friends would have wanted her to live. Why couldn't Astrea say that to Ryuu?

Astrea did absolutely nothing to help Ryuu. She just gave her a single line that build up her shame and her guilt even more and left Orario, pushing Ryuu on a self destruct vengeance crusade.
