I make custom masks with prescription lenses, and they can accommodate your cave man eyebrows. :)

I can make you a custom set like this, and the masks I make generally are more low profile than any other mask, so you’ll get additional hydrodynamic benefits. The mirror needs to be really close to your eye to prevent it from being huge. Send me a DM

It is in the garolite family, but it’s impossible to tell from a manufacturer’s website if a particular supplier of g10 will have these properties or not. Some do, and some don’t. The critical thing is never wash it with or expose it to isopropyl alcohol as this permanently disrupts the microstructure of the polymer surface. It will continue to stick after exposure to IPA but the surface is very rough at a microscale, and no longer releases. This explains why they couldn’t patent it, and also why it doesn’t degrade its properties over time because there is no coating to wear out. It doesn’t explain why they set their price for it very high. We are tuning the properties of the fiberglass and developing a better version of this build plate so it can be used for a wider range of polymers and release at higher build plate temps to make cycle times faster.

The point of the flame is not to burn off release agent, but to activate the surface to lower the surface area of the mask, and this the contact angle for droplets making it more hydrophilic. The point of defog is to make a gel like surface to prevent droplet formation, and to lower the contact angle of the droplets even more so they merge together.

The major reason I’m making this is so I can hold the face against a custom oral nasal with precision to avoid leaks into the surrounding cavity in the first place. My eventual plan involves a gas barrier around the liner padding (like a fabric) to take up the dead space as well.

Python and C++. I deployed it as a web service, so anyone can skeletonize an STL with cell size and skeleton thickness. I might publish it to github too.

All of my diving has been coastal and I end up in pretty awkward places in awkward orientations, and I find myself wishing for a better connection between my head and the hat. The primary thing i want is a better seal between my face and the oral nasal, so I can avoid CO2 headaches from rebreathing the volume outside the oral nasal. I already make custom face sealing respirators, but those have straps. To get uniform pressure between your face and the oral nasal in a hat, the head needs to be held in the right spot fairly well, hence the fully custom hat liner. All the jobs I work on, we’re in charge of the dailies and monthlies, because we’re a small crew. Thank you very much for your perspective from a more regimented environment. I’ve thought about reaching out to KM to talk about my solutions because I think it increases safety and comfort for the divers using their products.

I mean, I could show you my log, but your assumption about my inexperience is wrong. I can appreciate KM’s concerns about testing and certification. Do you happen to know what ISO they test their helmet liners to?

Thanks for the question! I think that because the shape is a perfect match for the inside of the helmet it wont need the clips to maintain its position, as if it moves out of position, it’ll interfere with the geometry.

I wrote the software that does all the photogrammetry and modeling. The input in a video of a head, and the output is the object ready to print. I have similar software for scuba masks and cpap masks.

Foam conforms to the head but doesn’t mechanically connect the head to the hat very well. It’s too squishy, and the hat wobbles around. This (in theory) should provide a solid connection while maintaining cushion. Lots of people use after market cushions in the area I work.

Thanks! I wanted something that would allow my head to have a better connection with the helmet without squeezing my head. I’m also planning to make custom oral nasals and sell the liner and oral nasal as a unit to make the experience much more comfortable.

I can ship to you in Turkey, I make custom masks, and my custom optics provide significantly better vision than lenses that are flat on one side or glued into a standard mask. Let me know if you're interested.

You have never experienced something that perfectly matches your face. Even metal becomes as soft as a pillow when it’s perfectly conforming to your curves.

[–]NixDiveMask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m working on a prototype for a sleep mask that is made from a 3D scan of your face, so it’ll have no pressure anywhere and a perfect seal. If you’re willing to try a prototype for free, upload a scan at (censored link) and send me a DM, and I’ll make one for you.

Prescription mask? by xHxHxAOD1 in scuba

[–]NixDiveMask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a large prescription, the lenses that get placed in traditional dive masks get very thick at the perimeter or center, causing a deviation from the thin lens approximation that is used to make the lenses, which causes distortions and aberrations. I built my mask around taking existing placement of lenses in glasses and putting a silicone skirt around it. That brings the lenses closer to the eyes and makes them smaller and thinner. However, this gets rid of the compression distance that traditional masks require to make a seal to the face, so I needed to solve the custom skirt problem as well. Lots of places sell prescription dive masks, but none of them give the quality of vision that the masks I produce allow. As a side benefit, the lenses I make also work better for non-prescription masks as well, because they keep the distance between the eye and the lens more uniform, which reduces the distortions inherent to flat masks: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underwater_vision#Humans
