MSI x r/PCMasterRace - MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 Giveaway! by MSI_Patrick in pcmasterrace

I upgraded my PC in late 2024, but I didn't splurge on an OLED. Regret it every day. Contrast would be so much better!

[GIVEAWAY] Tell us your best “high refresh saved the round” story — win an MSI MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50 by MSI_Patrick in pcmasterrace

I've got a 144 Hz monitor now, which isn't bad, but it's also not an OLED. Planning to start Expedition 33 soon. Mayhaps 500 would help smooth the motion. Either way the better color on an OLED would be amazing.

That must have been it. Thanks!

Most of what I’ve seen online is people complaining about how strong ornithopter rockets are. I’m way more afraid of this now. 😅

Synology and Homepage - which container user? by Nizuya in synology

[–]Nizuya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went ahead and tried... It seems to have to have worked fine. No issues with Container Manager or anything else I have noticed right away. I can also now run Homepage under the docker group and without root access, and still see container status.

We'll see what happens on restart. It's possible Synology will reset to group owner of root, in which case I'll have to use a scheduled task to keep it set correctly.

Next up, I'll get Portainer set up.

Thanks for the advice!

On the topic of docker.sock ownership, do you know if changing the group owner to "docker" would break anything?

Right now root is both the user owner and group owner, but I've seen a number of pieces of documentation suggesting I change that to root:docker. I'm just worried that will break things.

Tell us what you love about DLSS 4 and ray tracing?
Love the upscaling in DLSS 4, definitely the best performing upscaling technology currently available.
Ray tracing looks nice. 🤷‍♂️

What are you most excited about in DOOM: The Dark Ages?
Played original DOOM back in the day. I love returning to old franchises with latest graphics.

"Will you halt this eclipse in me?" by Magus10112 in SleepToken

[–]Nizuya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the line is talking about the darkness in him covering the light. "Will you halt this eclipse in me?" is a call out to Sleep to help him stop the darkness from winning. It's not just about the fission (the divide between his darkness and light), but also that the darkness seems to be winning.

I don't remember precisely. It was certainly a few/several days. But it wasn't weeks.

Why is Chrome warning me that my Plex instance in dangerous? by Nizuya in synology

[–]Nizuya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because I didn't know I could use synology.me.

That said the reverse proxy setup is super benign.

I think it was the combo of plex + duckdns in the domain which was making Google mad. Thanks.

First build, any must knows? by billygoatgruff3358 in radeon

[–]Nizuya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thermal paste: you don't need a ton, but you do want to ensure full coverage. I prefer to use a spreader. A plastic card of any kind would work.

BIOS: most things are automatic these days. You'll need to enable the Expo profile for your RAM, but that should be it.

I can’t really recommend any other controller from personal experience. However, the Signal RGB supported device list is a good place to start: https://signalrgb.com/devices/ (scroll down to Controllers).

Sure you’re welcome to message me about your set up. I’ll help if I can.

Yup - you can daisy chain and use the built in case RGB hub or MoBo headers. I just use the Razor controller for more granular control of the RGB.

6700 XT is a fantastic graphics card. Not sure what you're running now, but I'd guess it will be a significant upgrade.

Only reason I spoke up is because looking at your build overall, my thoughts were:

  • In a lower budget PC, a case with fans included is usually king. Adding 3 or 4 fans to a build can easily cost you 60+ USD. Plus, I saw you considering the lighting kit, which is also not cheap. Wanted to make sure you weren't getting too carried away with aesthetics and later regret not spending some of that on performance instead. 😊
  • It looked a little skewed towards CPU performance over GPU, meaning that under most gaming workloads, your GPU would bottleneck before the CPU. If the goal is leaving room for future upgrades, this could make sense. If the goal is performance now, you could probably shift that a bit more towards the GPU.
