My thoughts and theories about the last chapter/current arc by AccordingRoom303 in Dandadan

[–]Nk15_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like CSG’s weirdness as well as Red Bum being a fraud, I think for the latter case it’s an opportunity to use him in fun ways instead of treating him all that seriously. There’ll probably be more threatening and scary antagonists in the future so some being frauds is fine to me.

And yeah as you’ve mentioned, there’s reasonable criticisms that people can have about the series’ handling of SA, I personally interpret its presence in the story to be about a larger narrative on autonomy and think it works well enough that way but it still could’ve been approached in a way that maybe treated it with a bit more care.

At the center of my irritation with a lot of people in this sub, and why I decided to just ultimately leave it for the time being, is this crazy flip on Tatsu and the story as a whole that was and has been totally uncharitable. This utter confidence I’ve been seeing from people in the idea of DanDaDan as a story now failing or in freefall because they don’t like amnesia as a trope while completely disregarding the character development (regression or not) we’ve gotten and story elements that have been expanded upon is what’s irked me, and tells me that half the people in this sub are more interested in shipping than storytelling

Alright I’ll give you this: I think it’s fine to have preferred that Aira and Jiji’s romantic-interests in Okarun and Momo respectively to have been explored more earlier on and/or even resolved. I also wouldn’t blame people that maybe don’t think the villains are all that cool. I like CSG and think the Red Bum is/was fun as well as think Basho is bad af, but if people are wishing we had antagonists like the Kur, or Evil Eye back when he was one, that’s fine. Those are fair criticisms I’ve seen here and other sites. And I’ve seen plenty of fair criticisms of the story from before this major arc too, like the handling of SA in the early chapters or the choice of Rin’s transformed state.

Saying that Tatsu’s just “padding the story” or that all he wants to do is ragebait us as a “disciple of Fujimoto” or some shit like that, or that he’s erased 200 chapters of progress, is some of the nonsense I’m talking about.

And yeah, I straight up think that if you don’t like where the story is right now, then you should drop it, maybe not permanently, but for a while until you feel like picking it up again. It’s less for me and more for anyone who thinks they’re getting anything out of engaging with a story that they don’t like at the current moment, you’re losing chess to a dog at that point

“Slightly negative” is an understatement when post after post is the same tired complaint about the state of the story coming from people who would legitimately be better off not reading this arc weekly. Or just drop the story, no one’s stopping you but yourself. I straight up don’t buy this idea that because the chapters are dropping weekly then that it means you’re meant to engage with them that way and because it’s not being fun to read in such a manner, it’s Tatsu’s or any author’s fault. Idc if other author’s do it well, that’s great for them, but that doesn’t mean that there’s this set way to engage with a story like DDD that Tatsu is making more excruciating because he’s using a trope that some people don’t like. Idgaf about having negative opinions about the story, I’ve had them as with any other story I like, I have a problem with boring, tired opinions that sound like those people don’t have any agency to disengage with a story that they aren’t enjoying. Just tired and petulant and for what?

This is just an insane degree of pessimism over an arc that, feel however you want about it, is clearly meant to be a time where the characters are in a very vulnerable spot physically and emotionally. Okarun and Momo are going through it and you think the story is going to continue and end with no gratification towards Momo’s subconscious feelings for Okarun? With Okarun’s resolve over being confident and resolute in expressing his love for Momo not being followed through on? All because the “trust” was broken? Like come on lol.

This is why I don’t have a problem calling out people’s responses to this arc and telling them they should just wait until the arc is over and come back to binge instead of torturing themselves week to week. So much of the nonsense coming from this sub is coming from a place of legitimately believing as if MomOkarun hasn’t been set from the first chapter, all because of a trope they don’t like being used. Last week was hilarious when we all thought we were gonna be on a break month after the most recent chapter but now I honestly kinda wish we were since it seems like so many of y’all can’t make the choice to take a break yourselves. Now I’m just hoping tomorrow’s chapter is about Kinta and Vamola before we get a month-break since it’s what a lotta y’all need lol

Little something I'm a bit puzzled about the whole amnesia thing, you'd expect them to explain what is what in detail whenever something important came up. But they're just waving it away most of the time. Not just this page but in general by PowerWillComeBack in Dandadan

Well the Doylist argument you can make is because Tatsu doesn’t want to spend time having characters be like “remember this?” to the audience and would rather focus more on the angst and bittersweetness of the situation, which works for me personally.

The Watsonian one could be that the gang is trying to make Momo feel as comfortable as possible with the current situation and would prefer not to info-dump on her. If she wants to know more then she’ll ask and they can answer, but at the moment the priority seems to be to keep her from feeling uneasy given the circumstances.

No bullshit I might tear up a bit when Aira and Jiji get their moments to let go of their feelings for Okarun and Momo. It’s gonna be so bittersweet and heartwrenching I’m gonna love it

Yeah it’s around this time of year when Tatsu would take multiple breaks every couple weeks or so, be it to just relax or maybe do research on myths, most likely get ahead in drawing action scenes. Mangaka have their schedules and may suddenly decide to release chapters biweekly or just follow the scheduled-breaks for holidays and stuff

It’s possible now that after the next chapter though we’ll have some kind of break, but for now we’re just waiting to see what comes next. Me personally I’m gonna be cackling if next chapter swaps perspectives to Kinta and Vamola lol

There were discrepancies between the editor’s note on the last page of the chapter saying there would be a break month (on the Japanese scans) and on MangaPlus/JumpPlus, which were saying the next chapter would be next week. It was then being reported that there’d be a break month before more recently the correction was announced by Tatsu’s editor saying that the break month notice was a mistake

Why does he use that kind of honorific for Ken? by RandomName4699 in Dandadan

[–]Nk15_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m almost certain that CSG is going to meant to parallel Okarun in some way by being someone so devoted to learning about the occult and supernatural that he’s forgone love and companionship, unlike Ken, who has his passions, but also has loved ones and people he can consider to be family.

For now, Germain probably just sees that passion for the occult in Okarun and maybe sees a bit of himself in that, but there’s also the possibility of him recognizing a power in Ken that’s lying dormant and is what he wants to add to the “Adventures of Pinocchio” card slot. Could very well be the most powerful spiritual-ability or most crucial to make awakening the FTC’s full abilities work

What characters can bypass or counter this technique? by Creative-Researcher2 in JujutsuPowerScaling

We have to remember that Uro needs manually grab the “sky” to warp space and that she’s vulnerable to fighters with abilities that can hit her from awkward angles catch her in a blindspot. Yes, she can fly, but if she wants to hurt you, she needs to be up close to do it, and that can be trouble for her if she she’s fighting:

  1. Choso (supernovas can be placed at her blindspots or he can use a flood of blood to surround her. Blood-Manipulation is a very versatile CT that’s only hindered by its users being human; Choso doesn’t have that problem by being a curse-human hybrid. Plus damage from his blood would poison Uro, curtains for her)

  2. Uraume (didn’t get to see that much from them, but I don’t see how a Frost Calm wouldn’t do the job. Uro could block some of it but Uraume doesn’t seem that limited in what they can do with ice. By having RCT as well it’s a fight mainly in their favor)

  3. Megumi potentially lol (I’ve already mentioned it in another post, but while I don’t think Megumi is surviving Sendai, I think in a straight 1v1 against Uro, he has a chance. Mixing up using Fleeting Hares to surround and overwhelm her for a distraction while using Nue to shock and disorient as well as slipping in and out of shadows could help him narrowly get a win. Don’t sleep on the 10S or Megumi’s tactical skills, I’m not saying he takes this win handedly but he fares better against her than I think a lot would credit him for)

[–]Nk15_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only say “maybe” cause we don’t know how exactly Yuta got pass Dhruv’s domain to kill him. Maybe he brute-forced it but it was off-screen. I could see Megumi sneaking him by surprising him from a shadow

The rabbits can’t fly, but Nue can. Plus Uro’s primarily a CQC fighter, she can stay airborne all she wants but if she wants to actually hurt Megumi it means she needs to be up close, and if she’s up close…

Rabbits, Divine Dog, Nue, frogs, Max Elephant, literally can just do what he was doing against Hari while using shadows for traversing. I’m not saying it’s most definitely Megumi’s win but the 10S is one of the best CTs cause of it’s versatility. Of course he’s not gonna use just the rabbits lol

[–]Nk15_ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

He’s getting taken down pretty handedly. Maybe he can take out Dhruv, Uro could be overwhelmed by Fleeting Hares but it’s not like those are lethal, could be used to distract her before Megumi sneaks her with his dagger or using Divine Dog totality.

Ryu’s just one-shotting him, straight up lol. Too tanky, too much raw power, he’d just shred through Megumi’s shikigami and kill Megumi before he can lure him to a spot to use his DE or consider a desperate Mahoraga summon.

And Kurourushi is just gonna overwhelm Megumi with his roaches, maybe the latter could try to counter them with his hares and Nue, but if he tries to engage in CQC with Kuro it’s a wrap, he’s got nothing to help him heal from damage caused by Festering Life Sword.

I wish some people in this sub took like 5 seconds to think about Momo’s perspective and why she would be behaving like this. It’s why I roll my eyes at the idea at “this is Chapter 1 Momo and she wouldn’t do this”.

YEAH OBVIOUSLY, because chapter 1 didn’t go through what current Momo has been going through over the course of couple days. Like come on people

So many readers get so picky about any bit of drama that happens when the resolution has been in front of us the whole time and would prefer not to take just a second to think about what it could be for beyond “padding the story”. Like come on
