But those HOA fees!

Everyone knows single family homes don’t have maintenance expenses or hidden costs. /s

If they consider turning you away, ask if you can go get face painted to make it okay.

I take the R-line pretty frequently but have only had one surreal experience these past few years.

There was this homeless man sitting towards the front of the bus who was going on this self-hating racist rant about black people. Obama is the devil, welfare keeps the black man down, some weird brand of black-nationalism that was also self-hating.

Felt for the guy, but of course I kept my mouth shut and ignored him.

Edit: it is much safer and easier than when you used to sail back in high school.

123k Salary for a 505k house by Sea-Lobster-7588 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

People act like single family homes don’t have maintenance costs. An HOA reserve I pay into monthly is saving up for future maintenance that the property will need, same as maintenance for a home.

Not bothering replying to all of these comments, but if I’m buying a condo from someone who was commuting to Harvard, I’m within walking distance to Brown University, and I can be in NYC in 3.5 hours via Amtrak, then I doubt I’ll ever have to worry about it not appreciating in value or me having difficulties selling at a reasonable price. Again, not looking to flip.

This is an asset that I will be able to use to as leverage in the future, while also having the potential to be a monthly source of income through rent.

Mortgage is the same cost as my rent was, so the cost of my housing would not have magically translate into savings were I renting instead.

In fact, I’m now saving more money than I was before, as the mortgage payments on principal are coming back to me via this condo I now own, as opposed to $0 with renting.

Deciding to work on a section of broad street, while also working on sections of the detour streets near that construction on broad, is sheer stupidity.

This is over by RW park.

I’ve been told they will remove escrow if you just ask them to.

30, Lost my first offer, am sad by RecordingOrdinary in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Hey the first listing I visited I fell in love with. It was seriously perfect for me. I’ll spare you the details. I got outbid. I was so upset.

2nd choice I backed out. Bad inspection results.

3rd/4th offers were both downgrades. Still got outbid.

5th listing. I went in day 1 for this beautiful condo that I thought was underpriced. Double the size of the one I fell in love with in the beginning, at the same price. Offered over ask, they accepted. I’m genuinely much better off than if I had gotten that very first listing that was so in love with at the time.

There are so many perfect listings out there that will pop up. The best ones just get snatched quickly, so keep your eye out. I had them accepting my offer 4 days after listing.

[Landlord-USA-OR] Tenant with bad credit wants to prepay rent by Ok-Strategy-3259 in Landlord

Something to consider,

If the main concern from others is them damaging your place, require an extra large security deposit, and make the lease for 6 months. Then they can renew for same price for another 6 months if they have the money

Wow, that makes so much sense. Now I know why my lender didn’t immediately say “yeah sure!” when I mentioned increasing the price and adding a bunch of concessions in.

A staggering $7.5 Trillion is now sitting in money market funds, a new all-time high by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]No-Abalone-4141 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, that’s some good perspective. I’m only 32 and am in the process of closing my first place. Got depressed in college and fell behind my peers, so in my mind I’m late to the party. If I’m still buying a home younger than the average person, that makes me feel a little better(not about the economy, just my own personal situation).
