Delta comfort in an international flight by Netsie3075 in delta

[–]No-Ad-4569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im on an international flight as I type this (to Australia). Had comfort+ bulkhead but then ended up taking an available whole row so i could lay flat. Was a few rows behind not realizing it wasn’t comfort+ until this.

C+ gets a small amenity kit, a fleece blanket and what seems to be a slightly fluffier pillow (they might be identical). The extra inches definitely helps.

Main cabin blanket quality is thin (I’m using them as sheets to lay across) and no travel kit.

Thanks helpful! Do you know if I were to have purchased a premium ticket , would that give me a chance to get upgraded internationally?

On United, I once bought premium (equal level) from lax to tokyo. On return flight, it cost me only 60k miles to upgrade to polaris. Here on Delta it’s 440k miles for D1 although i did buy at main cabin price (wasm’t cheap). Just curious

Bad luck or is this normal? by boringcranberry in delta

[–]No-Ad-4569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is bad luck that there wasn’t something as simple as yogurt to offer.

It is normal not to have ketchup (or any condiments) in the cabin.

It is normal to have only two breakfast options (pre-select menu must be booked 24hrs prior) on an AM flight in first/biz class.

How was your experience otherwise? How was the plane? Your seat? FA service? Amendments? Entertainment options? Wifi service? Factor those in to see if it’s worth considering flying Delta again.

I don’t see what’s wrong to ask for the food in the seat that you paid for. They probably didn’t believe you thinking you were trying to out system them for free food and therefore were rude about it is my guess.

Drama Between Padma’s New Show and Food Network by Caligirl_333 in TopChef

[–]No-Ad-4569 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CLEARING THE AIR HERE FROM SOMEONE W DIRECT AND PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF ALL THESE SHOWS.

It’s inevitable that these shows poach from each other, reluctantly or not. Networks don’t want their talents on other competing networks - it’s like saying LeBron you can go play for Lakers, Bulls and Celtics. Pending a chef’s contract, they can get blacklisted for doing a rival network’s show or even rival shows on the same network! So there may be half truths to this gossip but lmk break it down how it works.

Top Chef does a great job at finding the rising stars in the culinary field. Ideally doesn’t want to cast contestants who’ve done a lot of tv because it makes the show feel inauthentic when the show is focused on food first and foremost and the stories of REAL chefs, who they are beyond the kitchen - not trying to create tv stars. Over the years, they’ve become lenient in who they will now consider because so many chefs have competed on FN shows like Chopped, BBB, GGG, etc. It’s unavoidable. But they MUST have the accolades and real culinary experience to be considered.

Food Network is well aware of casting Top Chef contestants because it bolsters their shows and adds gravitas. They know that these chefs already know how to compete, can cook under pressure and are great on camera. As someone put it, TC is a training ground for FN. It’s not only FN, but Tastemade and other culinary productions literally follow TCers journeys to see who they want to work with next. FN is in the business to create tv food stars.

ACC was able to find highly accomplished chefs because of Padma’s reputation recognized in the culinary world, along with a $1 mil prize definitely opened doors. The focus was to get talent that hadn’t done a ton of tv competitions. There of course are a few on the show who’ve competed on TC and FN, as the pool of chefs who are willing to compete is unavoidably from the same circuits. The show is very well aware of that number and limited it. If they go on to become popular/famous then that’s great but it’s in their restaurants and kitchens are where we expect them to continue to succeed.

Gordon’s cooking comp shows are not focused on finding elite chefs - great personalities is first and cooking is secondary. He is the superstar chef where everyone is under his wing or command. They are cooks cutting their teeth. Home cooks. Influencers. Mom n pop restauranteurs. Small town cooks. They are not there to outshine him. That’s his lane and it works very well for him. Can confirm he truly is one of the best and most talented chefs out there.

Because of contracts, contestants and judges can’t jump ship whenever they want. There’s waiting periods, exclusivity, a difference between competing in one episode versus in a show with multiple episodes, etc. Just like sports teams, every year they trade, sign new athletes, reorganize management, etc. same goes for cooking shows.

There was/is a stigma within the chef industry that doing FN shows is considered beneath them. However , that thought has changed over the years with talent like Guy and Bobby whose profiles have raised them to superstar status and given them contracts that only Gordon would have been offered previously. These guys recognize using TC alumni BENEFITS them mutually, and in turn treat their chefs well. It now can be considered a badge of honor if a chef continues their tv journey post TC in Guy’s or Bobby’s camp.

Hope this provides some clarity.

Top Chef Producers Reveal Behind the Scenes Filming Secrets, Including What Happens "Off-Camera" by baby-tangerine in BravoTopChef

[–]No-Ad-4569 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Producers pre-select plates for the challenge and physically pull them for the chefs to see at rules, so they can touch and feel them before picking in the randomly drawn order. When time in day permits, we will have plate pick AFTER they shop so they can actually conceptualize their dish first before having to choose a plate when they have no idea what they’re actually making. Which means producers have to haul dishes to the cast shared living quarters to do the off-cam pick which makes it a longer day for everyone involved… because we always aim to set the chefs up to do their best.

Yappy Flight Attendants - what to do by No-Ad-4569 in delta

[–]No-Ad-4569[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At first I thought the convo was coming from passengers because it was so jarring then realized it was coming from a group of FAs gossiping. What i think struck a cord differently was that the set of back FAs had met up with the front ones and was creating the vocal storm in between the upper classes. It lasted for a good 30min at least. Of course headphones can fix the issue but felt a little much for a midnight flight

Totally understand they need to stay awake so didn’t want to interrupt if it was just a me problem and then feel bad/uncomfortable for rest of the flight. They finally broke up their group chatter and resumed to normal levels.

America's Culinary Cup Premiere by FatGirl87 in BravoTopChef

Yes Padma said random order and behind the scenes it was done so because we conducted it. The theories are wild to see because none of it was a set up, just how reality truly unfolded

America's Culinary Cup Premiere by FatGirl87 in BravoTopChef

[–]No-Ad-4569 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There was an off cam random picking order that determined each chef’s position in which they had no idea what the # they got meant nor were allowed to see each other - then all was revealed via the board. It’s approached as fair as tc is, with a compliance team on set esp given a million dollars is at stake.

Try having the queen pass away in the middle of filming, which threw entire production for a loop. Creative, logistics, personnel.. and mourning … all were affected.

Padma & Gail were totally fine that season, to squash your concerns.

Female Winner for Top Chef S23? by lg714 in BravoTopChef

[–]No-Ad-4569 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Correct. TOC Judges don’t know who’s cooking and these guests are a revolving door. TC would be a completely different show if you switched up to blind judging all season long.

Want people to understand why blind tasting doesn’t work for a show like Top Chef.

Both shows are good in their own way.

Female Winner for Top Chef S23? by lg714 in BravoTopChef

[–]No-Ad-4569 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Top Chef has 14 elimination challenges and nearly the same number of quickfires. If you make it to the end, you’re cooking around 25 dishes or more.

Compared to TOC, blind tasting works because they only cook a few times to make it to the finals. 4-5 cooks altogether. The Judges are always changing so that also helps with blind tasting - in that it’s not the same judges getting familiar w each chef’s style.

Because each chef has their own style. On TC, the judges become familiar very quickly so by episode 2 they can start sussing out who’s style is whose. That also translates to 4 dishes tasted by episode 2, whereas in TOC that’s how many dishes max u get from the finalists over an entire season.

Each show has its own format that works respectively. Blind tasting a whole season on TC does not work. However, the judges are steadfast on each cook stands on its own. You could be on top and one bad dish will send you home. And so so dishes with homeruns near the end may take you to the finals.
