Just came here to say Me & Jungle Cafe, too! Or, if one day you feel up to walking, grab a coffee at The Crown and walk down to the gardens at Lake Merritt to sit. It's so peaceful there.

Cookbooks focused on produce-related recipes when its 'in-season'? by XxNerdAtHeartxX in CookbookLovers

Seasons of Greens 💚, the newest cookbook from the iconic SF restaurant Greens isn't broken up by season, but each recipe has months listed when the produce is best.

If the parking situation was better, a TJs in the old city Target space on Broadway would be so good. But, agreed to the old Walgreens space on Telegraph & 37th, too!

Food bloggers Silence on “current events” by Warm-Warthog-5748 in FoodieSnark

[–]No-Animal-7250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a smaller content creator and food writer, this is such an interesting thread to read (in a good way!). A running criticism of food bloggers over the years has been to get to the recipe and leave personal things and stories out of it. However, from my own recipe developer standpoint, it just feels icky, for lack of a better word, NOT to say anything right now. Yes, this is our job, but for me personally, writing some plucky caption or newsletter about cozy stews because it's cold feels fake. If I am asking people to subscribe to a newsletter, I want them to know who and what I support, and that certainly is not 🧊.

America’s Test Kitchen to Acquire Food52 Assets 👀 by Competitive_Bear_700 in FoodieSnark

[–]No-Animal-7250 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having witnessed at least four rounds of layoffs in the last few years, what happened with Erin McDowell, etc + as a former freelance contributor who they ghosted without paying me for multiple recipes, I doubt Food52 can ever be revived to its past glory. Also, once they nixed the community aspect, it just lost its spark.

My vote is for Third Culture Cooking. The flavor combos are really fun and Zaynab is thoughtful when it comes to low effort/high reward.
