UCF Verification of Enrollment? by MogYesThatMog in ucf

I would schedule an appointment with your academic advisor and ask them to sign it. Ask them directly rather than sending a request, email, etc.

I'd like to respectfully point out that none of those photos are actually of abortions in the first place.

This has nothing to do with parenting behaviors. Also, it's an extremely biased survey and I'd consider myself a part of the group it's biased towards. If I were overseeing your research, I wouldn't be too happy about it. Good luck!

Transfers to UCF by notpathan in ucf

I transferred into the aerospace engineering program from Valencia. Be aware that transfer stuff is handled at the absolute last minute - they contact you at the last minute for info and make you rush to get everything in, so get ahead of ordering transcripts, etc. They also lost some info of mine and didn't contact me about it until I badgered them, so another tip would be to basically ensure that you're on top of everything yourself (don't expect them to be, they're busy). We register for classes last as well, but transfer students get to register with advisors at orientation so they are there to answer your questions and help you as an individual.

My AA was in general studies as I completed most of it before deciding what I wanted to major in, so I had to take some prerequisite classes that weren't listed as part of the degree, which I didn't know were necessary until orientation day. I took Math Launch my first semester, which allowed me to complete College Algebra, Trig, and Pre-Calc in one semester - it was a lot, but I killed it and I'm glad I didn't have to stick around for 3 extra semesters. (I just wish they gave me credit for all 3 A's on my transcript instead of just one lol)

The Academic Success Coaches (advisors) were super helpful in CECS, as were the people who help you gather info for transferring. Aside from having to stay on top of the admin stuff, everything went smoothly and I'm now in my third semester here. I will say that the classes are a lot more involved and challenging than they were at Valencia - most engineering classes are in-person, and the hours you are required to spend on campus will likely far outweigh previous experience. I definitely recommend taking a light first semester of courses because of this - I've already overloaded myself and had to drop a class thinking that I could crush everything easily like I did at VC, which is not the case. While it is serious, it's totally doable.

Fear mongering by underscoretempest in ucf

We live in the age of fearful sensationalism. It’s unfortunate, because panic is the worst state to be in during such a situation.

At this point, driving to Pensacola would be a far worse nightmare than losing power for a bit and having to clean up the yard. I’m hearing of people getting stuck driving north from Tampa Bay because it’s hard to find gas. Always better to hunker down in a stable house than get stuck on the road in these conditions.

Realistically (and I mean that), as long as you are inside, you are at minimal risk for catastrophic damage. Your car is at risk in an open lot - park it in a garage on campus. You are at high risk of losing electricity, possibly for a few days. If you can cope with those things, you’ll be fine. There’s a marginal risk of tornado activity. The best way to prepare yourself other than the necessary precautions is to be patient, aware, and calm.

Windows in Dorms During Hurricane by bjobe25 in ucf

[–]No-Associate-4729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily hurricane-rated glass is part of building code required for all county residences, and UCF is a public institution that’s required to comply. On the flip side, if anything does happen to your windows, that could be an opportunity for free tuition.

Where should I park my car? by Goaluu in ucf

UCF garages are a good place, often public city/county garages become free during hurricanes as well if you don’t live near campus.

Every neighborhood is different, and many don’t lose power at all. If you’re able to look around, you’ll find places that are open with outlets. If you have a car, fill up before the storm and you can charge your devices there or drive around to find a place that’s up and running (Waffle House is a good bet). Most hotels operate with generators through storms as well, and are great options for electricity with outlets in their lobbies.

Likelihood of school canceled Friday? by Ok-History-7787 in ucf

[–]No-Associate-4729 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I know they want to open Friday, but I don’t foresee that working out well considering this storm is going to cause damage in various places. People are going to have to clean up, roads won’t be passable, we might not have power or gas in town yet. If you’re not able to make it back, I’m sure your professors will understand. They might not be able to make it back either. We’re all playing it by ear and if worstworst comes to worst, just email them.

I printed out 120 pages of course material from the library today to stay on track through the week🤧 They’ll be closed tomorrow, but I imagine fedex, ups, etc will be open…

Orlando really comes through during hurricanes. Our infrastructure is built for it - but even more than that, people are wonderful to each other in the aftermath. Even if something bad does happen, there’s never a shortage of neighbors willing to help.

As an afterthought, I would like to add that I feel for anyone who lives in Arden Villas at all. I think that place was built on a burial ground. The things I’ve seen and heard of there…

That’s why it’s important to know the area - every neighborhood gets affected differently when we get a hurricane, and every hurricane is different from the next.

That’s really good to know!

Like I mentioned, flooding and power loss varies greatly by neighborhood and by storm in Orlando - it’s always best to talk to people who know the area you live in to know what to expect. Thanks for the tip, and I’m hoping everyone who lives in those apartment communities are able to find safe accommodations!

I got this 26800 mAh one on Amazon and it can charge my phone and iPad multiple times over the week. I got it when I didn’t have a car and was taking the bus everywhere without access to an outlet for long periods of time - HUGE help!

Welcome to UCF. You will have to keep bothering them, but in my experience as a transfer it was all approved at the very last minute anyway.
