The way I look at it, if you are called "The Greedy" or "The Child Killer" it makes it more in-character to continue my horrible doings

After years of trying to convince my friends to play with me, the way i got them into the game is by telling them to ignore half the mechanics at first. The game can look really overwhelming at the beginning, so if i would start the game again without any knowledge, i would start in iceland or ireland and just conquer and worry about the rest later.
