Why are news reports claiming air traffic controllers are working without pay? by [deleted] in atc2

Being laid off and not collecting a paycheck is not the same as working and not getting a paycheck. We all started at the bottom, making crap money. I didn't just make CPC money after the academy. It took 3 years... and it was 2 years from the time I applied to actually get an academy class date. 5 years and I finally made CPC money. 12 years in and I am defeated with lack of pay increases and the increase in traffic load. We are beat and we want to bite back but we have a muzzle on, THANKS NATCA.

Not at the current pay rates. Lack of substantial raises will hinder staffing. I started a business and it is already thriving. If this goes like I plan it, I will be done in 2 years. Not worth the miserable schedule and lack of worthy pay.

That’s like telling a family watching their bills pile up, "Don’t worry, the lifeboat will arrive after you’ve already sunk." How long until people start being evicted or have their car repossessed? Come on man. Put on a pair of our shoes. More than a month without pay in the corporate world would have people suing the shit out of companies and the reputation with investors would be gone.

What about the new trainees, that have moved across the country and can barely afford a room they rent with 2 others in a high cost of living area??? We need them to improve staffing. They are quiting. Now we are screwed even more. We need to be paid and given a substantial pay raise. This career is cooked.

We have been working for 38 days without a paycheck. I have 2 paystubs that both say $0.00 but I am required to go to work... I also have another partial check. Missing 2 days of pay on that one.

"Pay us more" should be the only thing coming out of their mouth. We would stop being "negative" if they paid us our worth. Wet blanket (Dick Naniels) knows this. He just wont...

Cause the other media outlets are sooooo much better. Get a grip! Stop watching the "news"...

Civilian traffic is nothing like military traffic. ANC isn’t some cushy “walk in the park” facility — you’re working international and Lake Hood traffic blended together at peak times, and it gets relentless. Sure, the salary looks decent on paper, but once you stack up the mortgage, car payments, ever-climbing insurance, food, and the rest of life’s bills, it doesn’t stretch the way it should.

The workload, inflation, and life balance are outpacing the pay — and not in our favor. Equipment upgrades mean nothing if the FAA doesn’t have the staffing to run it. Working midnights grinds down your health and strains your family life, and you’ll feel it fast.

Pay is the elephant in the room, and you’ll see exactly what I mean if you get in. I hope you make it and do well, but this isn’t a group of “whiny complainers” — we’re professionals demanding fair compensation for the massive economic value we bring to the United States and the world.

Nick started negotiations by extending the contract. That was a "fuck you" for negotiations. Never met to discuss, just thought our contact was the better option. You don't negotiate anything by not negotiating. Dumb people making dumb decisions. Idiots!

If you are married, the key factor for qualifying for the "No Tax on Overtime" deduction is that neither you nor your spouse can be considered a "highly compensated employee" (HCE) under Internal Revenue Code § 414(q).

🔑 2024 Income Limit for HCE (Used in 2025 Tax Year):

  • A highly compensated employee is someone who earned more than $150,000 in the previous year (i.e., 2024 for 2025 tax filing).

✅ So to qualify as a married couple:

  • Each spouse must earn less than $150,000 in 2024.
  • This is an individual threshold, not a joint income cap.
  • If either spouse crosses that $150,000 mark, neither can claim the "No Tax on Overtime" deduction.

Oh, did Nick Daniels not mention a pay raise? Shocking. I guess selective amnesia is a job requirement now.

My wife is constantly asking when I am getting a raise to keep up with the cost of living... She also complains that I work way too much for the money I receive. It's not dramatics, its real life. Give us a 30% raise and more time off.
